Pining for discontinued foods! (lighthearted) rant!

About 20 years ago when I was at Uni, I lived opposite a LIDL (back when you had to find a carboard box to carry your stuff around!). They used to do a Ristorante Frutti Di Mare frozen pizza (I think it was 2 in a box) and it still pisses me off that it was discontinued. It wasn't just prawns, it had mussels and other stuff (possibly olives) on it. I still think about the bastard things today and I just thought there must be others who have their long lost foods.

Others for me are Brannigans crisps and more recently, Fries To Go! Oh how I could demolish some Fries To Go right now!

What are yours? Join in my rant :)

Haven't RTFT but Texan bars and the OG butterscotch Angel Delight

Back in the mid 90s when I joined a Rosemary conley diet club, the only permitted spread was Gold because it was only 3% fat. It was bloody awful!

Grew up on StIvel gold in this house! Explains why i loved lurpak at my aunts at christmas but now think that's bland haha

fabspring · 04/05/2026 21:54

I haven't read all the posts past page 6 but I don't think anyone up to there has mentioned Fry's 5 Centre. Dark chocolate bar with (I think) strawberry, lime, pineapple and another fruit creme filling. but then they put COFFEE! on the end. Yuk! But the 4 fruit flavours were yummy. They did a Fry's bar with mint creme too. I think you can still get the Fry's cream with the white filling. 😋😋😋

C-vit. There was a Ribena that was very similar. Both good but now 'replaced' by some shite with aspartame in it.

Phinneas Fogg snacks like Pains Perdus.

These were my absolute favourite ever. Mignons Morceaux I think they were! Phileas Fogg also did a delicious tortilla chip. Both a mainstay of a birthday party in my childhood!

I had forgotten about C Vit, but loved that too!

You can still get the chocolate cups in traditional sweet shops.lve seen them in Cleethorpes and Mablethorpe.

They’re called ice cups

emscot · 04/05/2026 21:58

Not many people seem to remember them but Cadbury tasters! They were like little balls of solid cadbury chocolate (back when cadburys chocolate was good!) I was an office junior in the late 90s and had to go to the post office every afternoon so Id get a bag of these near enough every day!

yup, sweet tobacco. I hated coconut so never bought it.

Just been discontinued

Sara Lee chocolate gateaux. I LOVED it, could eat one right now.

Yes, as an adult I often think I'd like a Sara Lee as my no frills birthday cake, but can't find a suitable replacement. Vienetta was always the alternative childhood sweet choice for special occasions, so hopefully they don't get axed any time soon. I miss marble bars and also dreams bars!

There was a delicious fizzy drink not so long ago called Qcumber which was just so delicious! It was difficult to find even then and I think they must have had distribution problems or something. Not too sweet, perfect if you are bored silly of elderflower. Then poof! Gone. So sad. I now combine a cucumber syrup with fizzy water but its not quite the same 😢

Cucumber syrup exists?? Please tell me where to get it.

Ooh, loads. From the 80s up until the late 2010s...

Findus crispy pancakes.
Findus french bread pizza.
Findus frozen mousse desserts.
Doner kebab flavour wheat crunchies.
Cheesy nikniks.
Coconut boost bar.
Pizza flavoured cheese strings.
Safeways prawn cocktail sandwich.
In fact just prawns in general used to taste amazing in the late 80s. Now they taste of nothing.
All the fizzy/soft drinks that used to have sugar but now have sweetners, including ribena. Especially Ribena. The strawberry one.
Topic bar. Has that genuinely been discontinued? Was my fave chocolate but not seen one in years.
McDonalds chicken sandwich when it first came out. Now it's vile!
Also McDonald's Pizza.
Two Dogs alcoholic lemonade.
Umbongo. They drink it in the Congo. Think the adverts might have been racist?!

Pizza cheese strings are back, have been for a while :)

BigLicks · 04/05/2026 22:08

Iceland prawn curry in the purple box for a quid.
Oh and Drifters 😋

CoffeeAndCakeBringMeJoy · 04/05/2026 22:09

Spira
Drifter
Mingles
Pyramint
Puff crisps
Dolly Tots and Tiger Tots (long lost siblings of Jelly Tots)
Crisps I was sometimes allowed to have as a very young child, where the crisps were shaped as farm animals. I have no idea what they were called, but I loved them, they were a real treat!

CoffeeAndCakeBringMeJoy · 04/05/2026 22:18

Also just remembered Chococino, instant hot chocolate from the early/mid 90s, although I think my memories of it paint it as a better product than it actually was. As a teenager, I liked that it was lighter than regular hot chocolate.

Cafinesse too; not sure I want that one brought back, other than to taste it and find out if the taste is as I remember.

Forestgreenblue · 04/05/2026 22:21

I am convinced Seabrook had a ham and mustard crisps but I can find literally no evidence of its existence!!! Just the Canadian ham. Can anyone confirm if I am right or just remembered it completely wrong?!

ToffeeCrabApple · 04/05/2026 22:22

Superwhip 😭

Nerdynerdynerd · 04/05/2026 22:23

TIME OUTS! When they weren't just some wafer shite and had the flake-style bit of chocolate through the middle, the good ol' days 🥲

inickedthisname · 04/05/2026 22:26

I’ve just remembered Thornton’s cappuccino truffles. Everything coffee gets scrapped because not everyone likes it, but for some of us, it’s the best one!

Bloopbloopbleep · 04/05/2026 22:30

Bensons pickled onion crisps - a staple of my 90s diet
Tesco frozen onion Bhaji burgers- flavoured potato patties with loads of tasty spiced veg
Dairy milk in foil
Cadbury tasters - little balls of Cadbury chocolate!

oknowimscared · 04/05/2026 22:31

I haven’t RTWT but from a quick skim through, I can’t see anyone mentioning Findus Crispy Pancakes. I have been craving them for years! I sometimes feel like starting a petition 😂

Spicy tomato snaps! 😭

You can still get them!!

Awww that's fantastic! 😍 X

UnNiddeRides · 04/05/2026 22:36

Oh, the power of advertising! So far I’ve had jingles for ‘gimme Mint Cracknell & I don’t care’ and ‘suck a Spangle get happy’ in my head, even though these days I can’t remember what I’ve gone into the fridge for.

To coin a NE Scottish phrase'Gads Min'
The cheese ones smelt of sick🤮.
70s kid and my mum bought every flavour going.

Borborygmus · 04/05/2026 22:42

M&S Swiss Pies
Delrosa Rose Hip Syrup (probably a good job it disappeared, as I'd have no teeth otherwise)
