Pining for discontinued foods! (lighthearted) rant!

1000 replies

summerchild82 · 04/05/2026 13:40

About 20 years ago when I was at Uni, I lived opposite a LIDL (back when you had to find a carboard box to carry your stuff around!). They used to do a Ristorante Frutti Di Mare frozen pizza (I think it was 2 in a box) and it still pisses me off that it was discontinued. It wasn't just prawns, it had mussels and other stuff (possibly olives) on it. I still think about the bastard things today and I just thought there must be others who have their long lost foods.

Others for me are Brannigans crisps and more recently, Fries To Go! Oh how I could demolish some Fries To Go right now!

What are yours? Join in my rant :)

@lornad00m Gucci Envy Me 2 is literally my favourite perfume off all time and loved the original too

MyEasterBonnet · 04/05/2026 19:45

Tesco used to do a vegetable korma ready that was beautiful and creamy from the fridges and was a staple of my student diet.

Julehavehadyourtea · 04/05/2026 19:45

Mackies used to make a chocolate ice cream with malted chocolate covered crunch in it, lovely malteser flavor. They no longer make these tubs and I still miss it, it was much better than their chocolate ice cream which is pretty standard meh

Laura95167 · 04/05/2026 19:46

Regge regge sauce, Cadbury Turkish delight and smiths spring onion crisps

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 04/05/2026 19:50

Galaxy enchanted eggs. They were rose gold and available only 2-3 years ago then the bastards discontinued them!

ReadingSoManyThreads · 04/05/2026 19:52

Birds Eye Scramblers. Have been craving them for decades.

DilemmaDelilah · 04/05/2026 19:52

Phileas Fogg Mignons Morceaux
Fry's chocolate spread (dark and sticky)
Honey cream biscuits
Kraft cheese spread (orange and in a jar)
Cadbury Dream eggs

plsdontlookatme · 04/05/2026 19:52

Everything that used to be nice but has now been filled with stevia/aspartame/sucralose! And M&S's 2020 vegan range was impeccable, especially the three "cheese" pizza.

Oh yes!!! Loved those so much!

Fry's 5 fruit flavoured chocolate bars...different fruit flavour in each segment. They still make the mint ones.

Lemon flavoured cornetto type ice cream were lush.

Tomato cup a soup but they weren't a powder, they were like a puree (wet) consistency in 4 little plastic boxes (like a pat of butter) that were so lovely.

Big choc biscuits...think they had 'dundee' stamped in the biscuit. Always had one of those on a sunday night (after having a bath) with a cup of cocoa...

Cigarette sweets...sticks of white sugary candy with a red end in a box similar to a packet of cigarettes 🤣

Frys also still make the orange and strawberry flavours, but not easy to find. I've sometimes been able to track them down in shops such as Poundland or B & M.

Topic chocolate bars

these beauties…gosh, I can’t add an image.
it was Pacers. They were like mint opal fruits.

Topic chocolate bars

There was a scandal that a dead mouse was found in a topic bar bought in a tube kiosk in London, apparently factory that provided hazelnuts had mouse infestation. Maybe that didn’t help.

Sorry about your drink.

Oh gosh were they the little garlic bread disc things that your Mum would bring out as nibbles for the "adults" - oh wow what a memory! Why do they always attack us on the snack front, so unreasonable.

I loved them too: Phileas Fogg’s Mignons Morceaux 🥰

ElenOfTheWays · 04/05/2026 19:57

Findus cheesies. Loved these as a kid

Lemon meringue crunch. Used to be a packet mix in the '80s. Had a biscuit base instead of pastry. Until recently Iceland had a frozen version which took me right back to my childhood. Unfortunately that's been discontinued too now apparently 😪

bridgetreilly · 04/05/2026 19:58

Years ago, Sainsbury’s did a really nice pork casserole with dumplings that I was craving two days ago.

ImImmortalNowBabyDoll · 04/05/2026 19:58

My husband has recently been experimenting with baking Abbey Crunch-alike biscuits at home, if anyone remembers those. My Mum was very anti-UPFs but I did like the Campino strawberry and cream sweets and also Starburst did a range of sweets for a while which were not Starburst- tiny little teardrop shaped ones.

Just came here to mourn the loss of the Fuse bar.

Yes! They were great.

Helpforsummer · 04/05/2026 20:01

Kellogs start.

McLennonK · 04/05/2026 20:02

Mint Feasts. Where did they go? They were the best. Someone told me you can get the multipacks, but I've never seen them.

Buzz bars. They were long and thin, nougat covered in chocolate. Bright pink wrapper.

Spira chocolate bar. You could suck your tea up through them.

TheMateofOphelia · 04/05/2026 20:04

Spira, obviously.

Drifters.

Cadbury dairy milk Turkish delight. You can still buy it in ireland.

Weirdly, and I know this outside me as very working class, but fray bentos steak and 3 veg pie was absolute top tier.

BleedinglyObvious · 04/05/2026 15:35

Walnut whips are still around but I'm not sure if they still have the walnut on top.

Can confirm they do. Iceland have them sometimes

Newnetter123 · 04/05/2026 20:06

Sara Lee Pecan Pie (checked the freezers for years and years once it disappeared) it’s been over 20 years and I still think about it!

SpanglesPacersandFruityPolos · 04/05/2026 20:07

As per my name, Spangles, Pacers and Fruity Polos. Also Cabana bars, Red/dark choc Bounty, and proper Cadbury's chocolate. Caramacs and old fashioned Freddo Frog bars. Walls Raspberry Ripple ice cream you'd buy in a big block wrapped in cardboard. Walkers Beef and Onion crisps. Ham that tasted of something.

Thank you to whomsoever suggested Mignion Morceau! I loved those things!

Bowies · 04/05/2026 20:09

Another for original Lucozade in glass bottles with sugar
