Pining for discontinued foods! (lighthearted) rant!

summerchild82 · 04/05/2026 13:40

About 20 years ago when I was at Uni, I lived opposite a LIDL (back when you had to find a carboard box to carry your stuff around!). They used to do a Ristorante Frutti Di Mare frozen pizza (I think it was 2 in a box) and it still pisses me off that it was discontinued. It wasn't just prawns, it had mussels and other stuff (possibly olives) on it. I still think about the bastard things today and I just thought there must be others who have their long lost foods.

Others for me are Brannigans crisps and more recently, Fries To Go! Oh how I could demolish some Fries To Go right now!

What are yours? Join in my rant :)

Winner Taco and Maxi Bon ice-creams from the mid to late nineties I think. Really good and sorely missed!

SAzure · 04/05/2026 18:07

Gino Ginelli ice cream

henlake7 · 04/05/2026 18:07

Nottogetapenny · 04/05/2026 18:08

Original Special K cereal from 1970’s so much better than the one you can buy today.

Fuse bars. Why did they get rid of them???

Beat me to it.

They were amazing.

Iwantcollarbones · 04/05/2026 18:11

McDonalds mustard dip. Used to bunk off sixth form to go and get some fries and as many of the mustard dips they would give me.

AppleKatie · 04/05/2026 18:14

McDonald’s sweet and sour dip. Don’t tell me you can still get it, it is not the same 😭

and also know we’re 20 pages in but I’ve only read the first page and what do you mean you can’t get Brannigans crisps anymore? I haven’t thought about them for 20 years but now I want to go back to uni and eat them 😭😭

Fetaface · 04/05/2026 18:15

Kelly's Lemon Curd Ice cream.

Aprilgorgeousness · 04/05/2026 18:16

Mars Delights....

ItsTooEarlyForThis · 04/05/2026 18:16

I don’t much like pizza but Pizza Hut used to do one in their restaurant called King of the Coast - Béchamel sauce instead of tomato, prawns and spinach. It was amazing.
OP if I’m having pizza it better have seafood on it!

Dark chocolate bounty- the red one 😭

I did not know this!! 😭

The first thing that comes to mind is the peanut cracknell in quality street.

LolaLouise · 04/05/2026 18:19

sunpat cheese spread in a brown glass jar in the 80s. I had it in toast every afternoon after school.

Aprilgorgeousness · 04/05/2026 18:20

Levis Roots ready meals.. Loved those especially Sunshine chicken.
Lidls- batenbergs, absolutely delicious, I think Iceland had them too in the early 2000s.
Mars delight bar..
Uncle Ben's ready made risotto, few flavours, came in sachets..

Failedcrunchymum · 04/05/2026 18:20

Salt and vinegar rice cakes made with white rice, not brown. They're all now made with the same rice and it tastes burnt.
Cream Cheese Niknaks, I know there's a similar flavour in some shops but I can't get away with eating the snacks I used to eat when I was younger so I don't know how close they are to the original.
V8 juice, because I think my teen would drink it, and she's rejected all the alternatives but likes tomato juice. I used to treat myself to that when I needed an energy boost at college.

Coffeeisnotmycupoftea · 04/05/2026 18:20

Back in the day when M&S food was called St Michael they used to make this yummy shortcrust pastry minced beef in gravy roll type pie thing. Mum used to treat us to it every week and it was the highlight of our week.

That, followed by a Birdseye Chocolate Lovely for dessert. I miss those days.

NovaF · 04/05/2026 18:20

Worcester sauce flavour french fries
Phileas Fogg Crisps
M&S jacket potato crisps
Tesco Raspberry Rapture Cheesecake

ElinorDashwood68 · 04/05/2026 18:21

Birds Eye Cheesies - frozen breaded cheese and potato triangles.

My mum was a terrible cook so these were a staple in my house in late 70s/80s

Caddycat · 04/05/2026 18:22

This was a treat when back at uni. Best yoghurt ever.

Seabrook tomato ketchup are back for a limited time. Got some from Morrisons a couple of weeks ago.

Been going through this with DP and he misses Terrys dark chocolate wafers (bit like a high class kit kat apparently).

Yes Terry's Waifa bars - both the dark and milk were lovely. They used to sell them in my school tuck shop. Much thicker (as well as better quality) chocolate than kitkats, I have often craved one since they disappeared. As I have mentioned in my previous post the Lidl version of kitkat is sort of similar to the milk one (not the same but the best approximation I have found) and I'd like to try the M&S one in the vintage packaging as I really like their chocolate. But I haven't found anything like the dark ones, it's difficult to find dark chocolate anything these days really

@NovaF still get Worcester sauce french fries..we had them the other week from Asda.

AInightingale · 04/05/2026 18:25

The new cheese Nik naks are nothing like the old Cream Cheesy flavour @Failedcrunchymum. I bought them recently and they were an abomination and we ate three and binned the rest.

ApricotTulip · 04/05/2026 18:28

Tesco and M and S have beef and mustard or ham and mustard crisps that are very similar to Brannigan’s in flavour.

Bring back:
Fruit Polos
McDonalds toffee sundae
And these!
