Pining for discontinued foods! (lighthearted) rant!

About 20 years ago when I was at Uni, I lived opposite a LIDL (back when you had to find a carboard box to carry your stuff around!). They used to do a Ristorante Frutti Di Mare frozen pizza (I think it was 2 in a box) and it still pisses me off that it was discontinued. It wasn't just prawns, it had mussels and other stuff (possibly olives) on it. I still think about the bastard things today and I just thought there must be others who have their long lost foods.

Others for me are Brannigans crisps and more recently, Fries To Go! Oh how I could demolish some Fries To Go right now!

What are yours? Join in my rant :)

Cadbury’s Tasters and Spiras

…would love either now 😢

bolognazey · 04/05/2026 17:48

the old clusters cereal. It had little popcorn shaped bits in it.

I used to love jacket potato crisps, crisps with the skin on, Smiths I think they were. And Rustic oven chips with the skin on. You can get skinny oven chips with the skin on ( or at least when I last looked you could) but not the good chunky ones. And a whole lot longer ago, 1980s I think, I seem to remember a Jamaica ginger loaf shaped cake made with wholemeal flour, it was so much more filling and tasty than todays version.

I loved the old fashioned delis with wholemeal carrot cake, wholemeal pizza slices, gorgeous homemade cheesecakes, none near us now. BHS food hall did quite a good lemon cheesecake slice as well.

Whenever there is a thread like this I go straight to pining for ready salted potato triangles. Think last had them about 20 years ago then they just disappeared. And original recipe original lucozade. They ruined it about 10 years ago.

These were ELITE! I also think about these when I see these threads. I can still remember the taste and crunch 😭

MyDeftDuck · 04/05/2026 17:53

Roysters steak flavour crisps……..they might still be available but I certainly can’t seem to find them

Heinz did a chocolate pudding in a tin in the early 2000s, possibly into the 2010s? I often crave it with custard. The other microwave chocolate puddings available these days just don’t taste the same.

😱 these have gone?? Surely not over ten years since I had this, how can I not know that these no longer exist, I loved the chocolate one and the toffee one

Twirlywirly25 · 04/05/2026 17:54

Bernard Matthews mini kievs. They have only recently changed the recipe and the new ones are awful!

rightoguvnor · 04/05/2026 17:56

Heinz Toast Toppers in a small cute tin. Chicken and mushroom or ham and cheese. Disgusting but lovely.

btw, you can get Roysters steak crisps in Tescos.

Mingles!

AMumWithWiFi · 04/05/2026 17:57

I used to love the margherita buffala pizza from pizza express. The one with cherry tomatoes and fresh basil on a romana base. I don’t bother going there now as none of their other pizzas tempt me.

I miss Heinz organic baked beans. Their regular ones are UPF and the other UPF free brands I’ve tried are not as nice.

Vesta curries

Quatro like lilt?

Blue united bars

Quarterbacks. Cheeseburger flavour as I recall.

I was waiting for someone to say this, it's one of the things that always comes to mind when I see threads like this. Did you know you were meant to defrost it, we never did but I saw a video with an old advert and they had defrosted it so it was less ice creamy.

My other wishes to be brought back are:
Terry's Waifa (the Lidl version of a kit kat is the closest thing I have found for years but it only comes in milk chocolate)
Phileas Fogg Mignons morceaux (as cited by dozens before me on this thread!)
Kelloggs Puffa Puffa Rice

I did not know you were meant to defrost it! We used to have a dollop on it on a strudel for Sunday pudding so it defrosted pretty quick anyway (or would have if it had lasted that long 😁).

Smiths Cheese moments!!!!

The last time I saw these was in Woolies, I've never been able to find them anywhere else. They were elite, I would kill for a bag of them now.

FizzingAda · 04/05/2026 17:58

Jacob’s potato puffs. Had them every week as a child (over 60 years ago). Discontinued. There was an online group trying to get them to start making them again, but they don’t have the appropriate machinery now. Would kill to have them again!

Can’t remember the name. They were mini cheese flavour biscuits shaped many ways - club suit, heart, oval etc.
Maverick bars

Sainsburys sell the cheese biscuits in the crisps section!
