Pining for discontinued foods! (lighthearted) rant!

About 20 years ago when I was at Uni, I lived opposite a LIDL (back when you had to find a carboard box to carry your stuff around!). They used to do a Ristorante Frutti Di Mare frozen pizza (I think it was 2 in a box) and it still pisses me off that it was discontinued. It wasn't just prawns, it had mussels and other stuff (possibly olives) on it. I still think about the bastard things today and I just thought there must be others who have their long lost foods.

Others for me are Brannigans crisps and more recently, Fries To Go! Oh how I could demolish some Fries To Go right now!

What are yours? Join in my rant :)

Fiendish Feet - They were half jelly/juice and half creamy yoghurt. They were so good.

Just seeing that StIvel logo reminds me StIvel Gold spread...it was so disgusting - anyone remember that?

My mum was on a constant diet (despite always being skinny) and this was the only spread allowed in the house - no marg and, god forbid, no butter. Best thing about eating at friends' houses was marg/butter. Don't bring Gold back!

Edited

Oh god, I remember St Ivel Gold, it was VILE. Smelled like wax crayons if it melted on toast, which probably told you everything you needed to know about it. My mum was another one on a permadiet! Ever since I’ve had my own place I’ve refused to buy anything but butter on principle 😂

Heinz baked beans with tiny vegetarian sausages in them, so yummy. Long gone, much missed

I thought you could still buy them in Waitrose?

Country store it was muslie from the 80,s but really thick tasty nothing has ever come close 😪

That's still about, Tesco sell it.
(Dammit - sorry- have to edit to say that it's only available in the EU, which we technically still are in NI.)

cafe noir biscuits from booths, potato triangles and other salty snacks from Sainsbury's were delicious if they bring them back I'm buying a box of them. That chocolate bar with white and milk chocolate swirled together and squash with sugar I cant have sweeteners they upset my stomach and make me hyper.

I think most Haribo is vile but they do some lovely liquorice assortments.
Sadly though not sold in Ireland or the UK.
Someone decided they wouldn’t suit the British Isles market. 🙄🙄🙄

Aliflowers · 04/05/2026 17:24

Having now RTFT I have a hankering in no particular order for

Sara Lee Pecan danish (a staple in our house every Christmas)
Drifter bars
Vice versas

Also I don’t know if anyone remembers them. Not a standalone item but quality street. They used to have two chocolates. The chocolate cracknel and the Almond toffee. Jesus they’re be killings in our house over who got them

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 04/05/2026 17:25

Tesco used to do some mini crackers in a box that were pizza flavour . Not seen for years.
And some round flat seedy raisin crispy sweet biscuit things , in a clear bag . Don't know if they still do them.

I've just got to the end of page 6 and you've all reminded me of so many foods that I've eaten (and now miss so much) over the years. (I'm well into my 70's) As one poster said "It's a wonder I have any teeth left!" I agree with everyone who says modern foods just don't taste anything like the old stuff.

P. S. I've tapped "agree" on so many posts!

Thanks OP! 🙌

Birds Eye Superwhip, it was like a cross between ice cream and frozen cream. I miss Nestle butterfinger coconut cups as well.

I was waiting for someone to say this, it's one of the things that always comes to mind when I see threads like this. Did you know you were meant to defrost it, we never did but I saw a video with an old advert and they had defrosted it so it was less ice creamy.

My other wishes to be brought back are:
Terry's Waifa (the Lidl version of a kit kat is the closest thing I have found for years but it only comes in milk chocolate)
Phileas Fogg Mignons morceaux (as cited by dozens before me on this thread!)
Kelloggs Puffa Puffa Rice

AInightingale · 04/05/2026 17:32

Maybe imagining it but Tesco's tiger rolls used to be far nicer. Very moist and soft and a really strong savoury flavour. Dried up monstrosities now, like ice hockey pucks.

Imanautumn · 04/05/2026 17:32

Terrys chocolate mints I loved those

There was a delicious fizzy drink not so long ago called Qcumber which was just so delicious! It was difficult to find even then and I think they must have had distribution problems or something. Not too sweet, perfect if you are bored silly of elderflower. Then poof! Gone. So sad. I now combine a cucumber syrup with fizzy water but its not quite the same 😢

1888est · 04/05/2026 17:32

Where did this Crosta Mollica pizza go? It was perfection

Thank you too! It's been lovely reminiscing with everyone and I'm with you on agreeing with everyone! I'm just shocked that NOBODY has mentioned my beloved Fries To Go in the recently removed category, so maybe they weren't as popular as I thought! haha. It's probably a good thing - far too moreish! As for the pizza, at least a few others have got their favourite one back - so that's something! 😃

Seabrooks tomato sauce flavour crisps and Creamola Foam - that’s a memory from many, many years ago!

Seabrook tomato ketchup are back for a limited time. Got some from Morrisons a couple of weeks ago.

Been going through this with DP and he misses Terrys dark chocolate wafers (bit like a high class kit kat apparently).

DreamingOfGeneHunt · 04/05/2026 17:35

Worcester Sauce Twiglets
Pyramint
All the fizzy drinks before sweeteners ruined everything
M and S carrot cake cookies.

Haha, does it wear a cravat and say "one" instead of "I" ? 😉😁

Just today I was bemoaning the loss of the Sainsbury's basics range. I was at uni in the early 00s, in a studentsville that was served by a giant Sainsbury's. We had entire subcultures related to various snacks, in particular the digestive biscuits, and the 'hilarious' marketing copy on the white and orange packets. The chocolate was surprisingly good.

MakeMeJuno · 04/05/2026 17:39

For a very brief period a few years ago Montezuma's sold dried mango coated in white choc, chilli and lime. TO DIE FOR! Never to be seen again...

I remember Funny FEET ice cream, not Face.

I am older than you are ! The funny face was before funny feet. Funny feet came out in the 80’s.

JoyLoveJoyInOrbitNsoul · 04/05/2026 17:44

Viscount biscuits,yo yo,club biscuits thick chocolate to be nibbles and biscuit to munch.
