Pining for discontinued foods! (lighthearted) rant!

About 20 years ago when I was at Uni, I lived opposite a LIDL (back when you had to find a carboard box to carry your stuff around!). They used to do a Ristorante Frutti Di Mare frozen pizza (I think it was 2 in a box) and it still pisses me off that it was discontinued. It wasn't just prawns, it had mussels and other stuff (possibly olives) on it. I still think about the bastard things today and I just thought there must be others who have their long lost foods.

Others for me are Brannigans crisps and more recently, Fries To Go! Oh how I could demolish some Fries To Go right now!

What are yours? Join in my rant :)

Yes, loved this growing up! Also chicken & mushroom toastie toppers 🤤

That is one of the many "awful" but delicious things my mum used to feed us for tea, loved them and also loved Findus crispy pancakes and Findus french bread pizzas. Can't recall any fresh veg or salad at all! yet we all seemed pretty healthy. We had things like Arctic Roll and Vinentta as treat puddings on Sunday and Birds Instant Whip on some weekday. I loved the butterscotch flavour, I think you can still get these sweet delights

MyDeftDuck · 04/05/2026 17:03

Seabrooks tomato sauce flavour crisps and Creamola Foam - that’s a memory from many, many years ago!

DrumsPleaseFab · 04/05/2026 17:04

Tonic, sprite, Ribena, squash in general , San pellegrino and all the other drinks that have gone to shit because of sweeteners added (I HATE the taste!)

go away with your “tastefully light” I am not on a diet, I donot like sweetener, I want some sugar. Give me some sugar… I AM your neighbour 🙃

Alittlefrustrated · 04/05/2026 17:05

I'm older than you - Texan bars. Basically a bar sized chew, covered in chocolate. "Sure is a mighty chew". By Nestle in the 70's.

TheWayOfTheWorld · 04/05/2026 17:05

Cheese and Tomato pot noodles - I loved those 😭

I remember Funny FEET ice cream, not Face.

There was both, with chocolate chips for eyes and nose!

Lifeomars · 04/05/2026 17:07

I have posted about this before and because I am a bit sad I still think about it sometimes, the M and S bolognaise flan. A pastry base filled with bolognaise sauce and topped with a thick cheese sauce. You heated it up in the oven and it was divine, no doubt a calorie and fat laden horror but it lives on in my memory due to being fabulous. I sometines wonder if I could recreate it at home

Secret chocolate bar. There was a petition going at some point, but to no avail.

Omg yes

Lucozade was wonderful when it was in glass bottles with a cellophane wrapper.

That was back when you had to be really ill to be bought Lucozade!

I always say when this topic gets its regular airing, Ritter Sport Mocha, surely someone from Ritter Sport is on MN!
Not a discontinued but an 'unavailable in the UK', Schweppes Bitter Orange, why can they sell it in Germany, and maybe other lucky places, but not in the UK?

ConstanzeMozart · 04/05/2026 16:36

chicken flavour Ringos? Are you having a laugh?! I loved the cheese and onion and the salt and vinegar, but I have no memory of chicken ones.

Yes orange packet they were divine must have been mid seventies

Heinz sponge puddings in a tin
Cadburys used to do a chocolate bar, made up of real chocolates (orange, caramel etc). Lovely, but I guess difficult to manufacture.
Amazin Raisin bars
Proper size wagon wheels
Chelsea buns
And another vote for proper lucozade
Can you still get Rolos and Munchies?

I think the chocolate bar of different chocolates was “Milk Tray” bar. I worked in a newsagents from
13 - 16 so I re-filled the shelves 😁 best job ever!

No, I have no recollection of Funny Face at all Confused

RamsaySnowsSausage · 04/05/2026 17:11

Fiendish Feet - They were half jelly/juice and half creamy yoghurt. They were so good.

Just seeing that StIvel logo reminds me StIvel Gold spread...it was so disgusting - anyone remember that?

My mum was on a constant diet (despite always being skinny) and this was the only spread allowed in the house - no marg and, god forbid, no butter. Best thing about eating at friends' houses was marg/butter. Don't bring Gold back!

Not to be rude, but that's slightly before my time then (born mid-70s, eating crisps from about 1980 probably!)

JudgeJ · 04/05/2026 17:11

40+ years ago Aldi did Texanfeurigebohnentopf, a really spicy, thick bean soup, it was amazing, when Aldi came to the UK we were very excited but then very disappointed not to see it. It came on a huge tin and was plenty as a light meal, crispy bread added of course.

lifetheuniverse · 04/05/2026 17:12

Oh no - cheese moments were to die for and I will always need a mignons moreceaux from Phileas Fogg.

LokiDoki75 · 04/05/2026 17:12

Birds Eye Superwhip, it was like a cross between ice cream and frozen cream. I miss Nestle butterfinger coconut cups as well.

JudgeJ · 04/05/2026 17:13

Boursin Black Pepper cheese, I saw at Christmas that this variety was in a big selection pack but hasn't been available on its own for years.

Bertiebiscuit · 04/05/2026 17:13

Heinz baked beans with tiny vegetarian sausages in them, so yummy. Long gone, much missed

Remembered another one: Turkestan bread from Sainsbury's.

oh hear hear. All the artificial sweeteners give me headaches and or stomach aches. If Fever Tree or Bottlegreen can do shit free drinks then why can't everyone else. oh and shake it like a polaroid picture

AInightingale · 04/05/2026 17:15

Tudor crisps (the spring onion, gammon and curry flavours, and the crinkly ones discontinued in the 90s)
Gypsy creams
O'Hara's bakery (in Northern Ireland) oh my God the fresh warm gravy rings, no flabby ring doughnut from Tesco can ever come close.

Jaxhog · 04/05/2026 17:17

I miss Barts Thai spices. I even asked them if they'd make a special batch just for me!

Milo chocolate bars are amazing. I wish they would do them here. Nothing I've found matches up to it 🙁
