Pining for discontinued foods! (lighthearted) rant!

summerchild82 · 04/05/2026 13:40

About 20 years ago when I was at Uni, I lived opposite a LIDL (back when you had to find a carboard box to carry your stuff around!). They used to do a Ristorante Frutti Di Mare frozen pizza (I think it was 2 in a box) and it still pisses me off that it was discontinued. It wasn't just prawns, it had mussels and other stuff (possibly olives) on it. I still think about the bastard things today and I just thought there must be others who have their long lost foods.

Others for me are Brannigans crisps and more recently, Fries To Go! Oh how I could demolish some Fries To Go right now!

What are yours? Join in my rant :)

Yes I liked that too-

It was perfect!

Needaglowup · 04/05/2026 16:50

M&S use to do small chocolate milkshakes with a straw when I was a kid .. bloody lovely
plus they did a bacon pate and a chicken one all I use to eat .
and Heinz Tomato soup with a hint of chilli In the tin was lovely in the winter .

If possible could you confirm they’re there. I’ll go to my nearest Iceland if they’re back but it’s a bit of a journey.

Do you ever use Amazon groceries? I've just checked and they are showing on Morrisons there but obviously don't know if you're in a delivery area for them. Can't work it out on Iceland as they are basically shit with anything stock-wise online! x

Someone has mentioned funny face ice cream. Loved those.

I remember Funny FEET ice cream, not Face.

FieldInWhichFucksAreGrownIsBarren · 04/05/2026 16:51

Vesta Beef Risotto, I actually crave one of these with all my soul.
Also Secret & Spira chocolate bars, I used to suck tea through a Spira like straw, absolutely stunning.

Danikm151 · 04/05/2026 16:51

Snaps!

Thank you! 😄
Six? Hahahaha!

ElizabethVonArnim · 04/05/2026 16:52

I miss Twilights and Pyramints - both absolute Christmas stocking legends!

I had no idea these were discontinued! That's well out of order 😉

It was always fun asking bar staff if they have any cheesy moments

Passingthrough123 · 04/05/2026 16:49

Yes, they were! You could only have a few because they'd skin the roof of your mouth.

Haha sounds like them then! Thank you 😂

Birds add boiling water semolina 😢

Yes, loved this growing up! Also chicken & mushroom toastie toppers 🤤

Ovaltine bars. Think I last had one in the eighties. Was thrilled to discover Milo bars are really similar and stock up if I’m ever in Asia for work

Sorry if it’s already been mentioned, haven’t read the whole thread.

But get yourself to Switzerland! Ovomaltine chocolate galore!

Lucozade was wonderful when it was in glass bottles with a cellophane wrapper.

When I was little I used to enjoy gazing at an orange tinted world through that cellophane, it gave things a magical glow

Ginburee · 04/05/2026 16:56

Oh, and Beanfeast.

A quick look online shows they’re not available in my local 🙁 but the are available in Iceland so you can check yours 🤞https://www.iceland.co.uk/p/dr.-oetker-ristorante-pizza-pollo-355g/101204.html

This might be a bit niche but back when Pret A Manger first opened (or at least in the city near me! Must have been mid to late 90s) they used to do a dessert pot that was chocolate brownie in Greek yoghurt. I really miss it. I've never had a chocolate brownie as good as what was in that pot.

BruceFoxton · 04/05/2026 16:26

This. A million times this. M&S also did a version of this which was first rate. Neither now available and don’t give me maple pecan Danish suggestions. You just don’t get it.

Yep. NOTHING compares to it

I don't know if it helps but I've posted further up about Morrisons via Amazon Grocery x

also Smiths Bovril crisp had a craving for them when pregnant ..

genesis92 · 04/05/2026 16:59

This is a much more current one, but Sainsbury’s have stopped making their own brand oat bars for toddlers. Anyone with small kids knows oat bars are a staple snack, and now the only other option or Organix at £3.50ish pack. Compared to about a quid from Sainsbury’s. So annoyed

Ypsilanti · 04/05/2026 16:59

This is quite niche (I mean, like everyone else 😂) but in the early/mid 90s Sainsbury’s made a spinach and ricotta lattice tart, made of of puff pastry with this delicious cheesy spinach filling. My mum was (is) a good cook, but it was always a treat when I came home from school to that.

and then one day in about 1996… it just disappeared. I’ve mourned the memory of it ever since, even though it’s dead simple to make.

edit: oh and another one pining after Phileas Fogg’s mignon morceaux.

AlohaRose · 04/05/2026 16:59

I miss these cakes from Thornton! They were delicious- and discontinued some years ago ☹️

Pining for discontinued foods! (lighthearted) rant!
Freda69 · 04/05/2026 17:00

Heinz sponge puddings in a tin
Cadburys used to do a chocolate bar, made up of real chocolates (orange, caramel etc). Lovely, but I guess difficult to manufacture.
Amazin Raisin bars
Proper size wagon wheels
Chelsea buns
And another vote for proper lucozade
Can you still get Rolos and Munchies?

itsallbullshit · 04/05/2026 17:01

Cadburys Spira and Gino Ginelli fudge ice cream that had fudge bits all the way through, not just sprinkled on the top 😔
