Pining for discontinued foods! (lighthearted) rant!

summerchild82 · 04/05/2026 13:40

About 20 years ago when I was at Uni, I lived opposite a LIDL (back when you had to find a carboard box to carry your stuff around!). They used to do a Ristorante Frutti Di Mare frozen pizza (I think it was 2 in a box) and it still pisses me off that it was discontinued. It wasn't just prawns, it had mussels and other stuff (possibly olives) on it. I still think about the bastard things today and I just thought there must be others who have their long lost foods.

Others for me are Brannigans crisps and more recently, Fries To Go! Oh how I could demolish some Fries To Go right now!

What are yours? Join in my rant :)

If you were a kid in the 70s/80s the Golden Cup chocolate bar. It had caramel in it.
It was more expensive than other bars so it was a rare treat but I can still close my eyes and dream about demolishing one now.
All chocolate was lovely then.
Now it’s like blocks of brown lard

Plopp bars in Sweden very similar - even if the name doesn’t quite translate!! Always have one when we go

Do you mean Walkers Bitza Pizza?

Yellowpapersun · 04/05/2026 16:24

I'd kill for a Cadbury's Country Style. I'm not sure when they were discontinued, but they were still around in the late 70s.

Smiths Cheese moments!!!!

Smiths ready salted Chipsticks will forever be missed too 😂

igelkott2026 · 04/05/2026 16:25

A fairly recent one but Waitrose did raspberry flavour ice lollies before COVID, they were really nice.

And all the sweets and chocolate that have changed and are now rubbish like fruit pastilles.

This. A million times this. M&S also did a version of this which was first rate. Neither now available and don’t give me maple pecan Danish suggestions. You just don’t get it.

I'm a bit behind but in case nobody else has said, they've brought it back!! Iceland and Morrisons for sure. Another win on the thread, yay :)

That’s amazing! I can’t imagine why they stopped it in the first place. Thanks for this ❤️ My son loves them too!

hiredandsqueak · 04/05/2026 16:14

I loved those and chicken flavour Ringos. Also Surprise peas which were the nicest tasting peas and so handy to have in the cupboard.

You used to be able to get Spicy Snaps in Wilko. 😪

Got to also love Pickled Onion Ringos.

That is a definite win! I just thought my supermarket was doing its usual crap stock management as I hadn’t seen any for ages. Heading straight to Iceland now!

Sara Lee chocolate gateaux. I LOVED it, could eat one right now.

@Xanadu78 I’m glad you remember them as no one else ever does. Aged 12 ish I had a terrible obsession with those hot lemon puddings. I couldn’t stop thinking about them until I ate one, then as soon as I’d finished it, I’d be thinking about the next one. I still think about them now sometimes then tell myself they probably weren’t as nice as I remembered.

I miss Nutty Bars. To give you an idea of how long ago they were (wrongly) discontinued, they were sold for 16p!

Marks & Sparks used to sell a small bar of chocolate that was milk, dark and white chocolate in layers.

Trio biscuits. I don’t miss the adverts though.

Red Bounties & Caramac, obviously.

turquoiseshell · 04/05/2026 16:30

cheese and bacon frozen savoury pancakes

Quickdraw23 · 04/05/2026 16:30

When I was a kid there were these pudding type things called Puddis - pink ones which I think were strawberry, and caramel ones. They were bloody delicious and I can’t find them for love nor money, and NO ONE has heard of them.

Puddis as a brand still exists doing chocolate and vanilla puddings, but I WANT THE PINK ONE.

Idontjetwashthefucker · 04/05/2026 15:26

Smith's ready salted Chipsticks, loved them...especially on a corned beef and onion sandwich on cheap white bread 😋

I genuinely didn't realise they had been discontinued as I often eat the salt n vinegar ones!

Aww I'm so happy someone has won - I think Tesco do them too! Please update to let me know when you've had success haha x

Toffee Logs from the penny counter
Chipsticks, ready salted. Forever missed
Galaxy Counters from the 1970s
Terry's Waifer
Toffee Crisps (the 1980s versions not todays hard, poor excuse for a toffee crisp!)
Tropical Fruit Flakes
Not that I'm at all food obsessed.... 😂

Pacers mint chewy sweets

Pining for discontinued foods! (lighthearted) rant!
Viviennemary · 04/05/2026 16:33

Cheesey moments. Also smiths chipsticks in red packet. I think they still do the blue packet salt and vinegar flavour.

Walker1178 · 04/05/2026 16:33

I’d love an Echo bar or a golden cup.

M&S did a beetroot couscous in a pouch that you could chuck in the microwave that was really good, I’ve tried to make my own but it’s never lived up to what I remember 🙁

ConstanzeMozart · 04/05/2026 16:33

JenniferJupiterr · 04/05/2026 16:20

Pacers
ice magic
Spangles
Freshen Up chewing gum
cherry garcia ice cream
Boasters biscuits
M & S cheese and celery sandwich - the one from the late 80s/ 90s
A M& S ready meal that was fresh pasta with a red wine type sauce and mushrooms. Nobody remembers it but it was utterly delicious

Fruit rocks from Thorntons.

Doesn't cherry garcia ice cream exist any more? Shock
I LOVED Boasters biscuits. With whole hazelnuts and huge chunks of chocolate.😋

If possible could you confirm they’re there. I’ll go to my nearest Iceland if they’re back but it’s a bit of a journey.
