Pining for discontinued foods! (lighthearted) rant!

About 20 years ago when I was at Uni, I lived opposite a LIDL (back when you had to find a carboard box to carry your stuff around!). They used to do a Ristorante Frutti Di Mare frozen pizza (I think it was 2 in a box) and it still pisses me off that it was discontinued. It wasn't just prawns, it had mussels and other stuff (possibly olives) on it. I still think about the bastard things today and I just thought there must be others who have their long lost foods.

Others for me are Brannigans crisps and more recently, Fries To Go! Oh how I could demolish some Fries To Go right now!

What are yours? Join in my rant :)

M&S spring onion crisps.

PinkBuffalo · 04/05/2026 15:56

For me the veggie stuff that I did live that suddenly does no exist no more. The quorn lamb grills I did used to love years and years ago, or the quorn pork pie. The sausage patties etc. so much disappointing

OMG yes, I thought I was the only person who remembered those, the lemon one is firmly planted in my memory as the most amazing thing ever (it probably tasted like floor cleaner but my 80s taste buds thought it was the bomb).

I miss a pizza Iceland used to sell too - it had hotdog in the crust and was utter trash nutritionally but it was awesome for a Saturday night in front of a crappy movie. And the little frozen raspberry ripple mousse pots you could get from Bejams (Iceland before Iceland!) - you could eat them frozen or let them defrost and have them as mousse.

My mum used to get us those mousses from Bejams. Quite a treat for us kids back then.

Ski frozen yoghurt- I loved this so much

Chocolate cake from Sayers. Only bought for special occasions. So chocolaty.

And I used to love cheese moments!

Appleseason · 04/05/2026 15:57

Fruit polos
and dr oetker chicken and spinach pizza.
it was the best

Pinkfluffypencilcase · 04/05/2026 15:57

Cheap kwik save cheese and tomato pizza. Delicious.

Greenandyellowday · 04/05/2026 15:57

Does anyone remember a bran cereal, probably 1980s... small curls like a letter C, very hard so never turned to mush, definitely sweetened a bit?

Little cubes, slightly varying in colour, and trying to detect different tastes!

So like Apericubes? Yum I don’t remember.

FrankSinatraonToast · 04/05/2026 15:58

Cadbury's Icebreaker chocolate.
Beef Wotsits

ArtyFartyCrafts · 04/05/2026 15:59

My Sainsbury's stopped selling Florentines in their bakery, I had one every time I went.
Sainsbury's fragrant Thai base, I used it to make pork mince Thai style which my 7 year old loved as it wasn't too spicy.
Lidl steak seasoning
Asda wholegrain mustard mayo

The Thai fragrant base pissed me off too, it just disappeared!

Always have to buy Apericubes whenever we're in France! Love those.

Lucyccfc68 · 04/05/2026 16:01

Debbie and Andrew’s pork sausages. Loved those - they were proper meaty.

Maggi papers for chicken. You can still get the bags, but not the papers infused in flavoured herbs and spices. I loved the garlic one.

SapphireSeptember · 04/05/2026 16:02

Sweet and sour super noodles, and Sainsbury's prawn flavour noodles. I miss them so much! I used to mix tuna into the pawn noodles, and pineapple chunks into the sweet and sour ones. They've been gone for over a decade now. 😭

TinyGingerCat · 04/05/2026 16:02

Walls Romantica ice cream cake - was a real treat when I was a student at uni in the 90s

I used to love these. They still do the steak ones but they're not as nice. The veggie/vegan section changes so much there's no point getting attached to things :(. Morrisons used to do amazing glamorgan sausages and vegetable burritos but no more.

Cantbearssed · 04/05/2026 16:04

Mint choc ices, loved these as a kid. The plain vanilla are just not the same.

Sartre · 04/05/2026 16:04

Marble chocolate but then it was sold in B&M for a while, I was utterly delighted but it just wasn’t as great as I remembered! Mars Delight bars are always one I think about from time to time.

I also distinctly remember these Thomas the Tank Engine desserts. No one ever remembers them so I’m wondering if I made them up. They were like sweet pastry I guess filled with icing sugar, shaped like Thomas. I guess they went in the microwave to be heated.

Do you mean Farmhouse Bran (or something similar)? I loved that. I did find it once years ago and it had been rebranded as ‘(Something) Curls’. I used to eat it for breakfast and dry out of the packet for a tasty snack 😀

I used to love a nutty bar, I really really miss them

Not many people seem to remember Nutty Bars but I loved them and often think about them 😔
Also:
Cabana bars
Drifters
Banjos
Deltas
Smiths ready salted Chipsticks - they were one of my pregnancy cravings in 1994 and I still crave them!

Walkers ready salted Tear 'n' Share crisps - the ones where you were supposed to fold the bag into a kind of bowl for sharing. They were far superior to ordinary Walkers but didn't last long.

Going way back to the 70s, Apeel. A powdered orange drink that was mixed with water.

Overjiggly · 04/05/2026 16:07

Just last month Frosted Wheats cereal discontinued 😭why kelloggs why!?

God, I could go for a Secret Bar. Or a Sprira. I don’t know why having chocolate in different shapes makes it taste better but it just does.

Not sure if this counts as discontinued but I wish they would bring back the old Feast ice creams with proper chocolate in the middle. I bought some recently on a whim and whatever that is in the middle isn’t chocolate. You used to to be able to eat all the ice cream and still have solid chocolate in the middle, now it’s just chocolate flavour mush.

I had one of their "new and improved " Feasts and was very disappointed. The whole point is the chocolate icecream and the solid choc middle, but this was white icecream with a more firm Nutella middle. Wish they would just leave the original as is and bring out a new flavour.

On threads like these, my much missed food is always a packet mousse, very similar to Angel Delight in how it's made but you use water instead and it was a light citrus mousse.
Lidl also had an instant cappuccino coffee in a couple of flavours, one was winter spiced and the other was a vanilla. I tried to eek out the ones I bought but it was a sad sad day when I had my last one
