Pining for discontinued foods! (lighthearted) rant!

1000 replies

summerchild82 · 04/05/2026 13:40

About 20 years ago when I was at Uni, I lived opposite a LIDL (back when you had to find a carboard box to carry your stuff around!). They used to do a Ristorante Frutti Di Mare frozen pizza (I think it was 2 in a box) and it still pisses me off that it was discontinued. It wasn't just prawns, it had mussels and other stuff (possibly olives) on it. I still think about the bastard things today and I just thought there must be others who have their long lost foods.

Others for me are Brannigans crisps and more recently, Fries To Go! Oh how I could demolish some Fries To Go right now!

What are yours? Join in my rant :)

Found them but "this product is unavailable"
Thanks anyway.

I get a couple of packs most times I shop, have got some in the cupboard now, Maybe they don’t do them everywhere, I know some items availability varies around the country.

Fast800goingforit · 04/05/2026 15:41

Findus Crispy Pancakes are still available, now branded Birds Eye.

Maille Bearnaise sauce in a jar. I haven't found a replacement which is a patch on it.

I am still grieving the discontinuation of Sainsbury's ready salted chip sticks. It's been about 30 years now since I last saw them.
I don't mean the piddly, hard things they sell now, which look like shards of wood. These were big and puffy and amazing. They sell them in the salt and vinegar flavour so why can't they make them in ready salted!?
Also, Sunpat cheese spread in a jar.
Vice versa's.
Neopolitan chocolates.
Walkers mix ups, the cheese flavoured ones, when they had cheesey monster munch in them.
And more recently, M&S giant mint chocolate buttons!

Neapolitan Chocolates!
I'd forgotten all about them. A treat at Christmas or other special occasion. Loved them all, except the coffee ones.
We also had the "special" Terry's dark box at Christmas. Each year a different design box, with drawers and such. Had forgotten that as well.

Whenever there is a thread like this I go straight to pining for ready salted potato triangles. Think last had them about 20 years ago then they just disappeared. And original recipe original lucozade. They ruined it about 10 years ago.

I very much miss potato triangles. I found something with a similar texture in Norway a few years ago called Sætre Snackers but unfortunately I can't justify going there every year just to buy them...

Walkers Bitza Pizza
Can’t remember the name. They were mini cheese flavour biscuits shaped many ways - club suit, heart, oval etc.
Maverick bars

Iceland do those cheese biscuits

Birds hot banana crunch and the chocolate version too. They were amazing for hiking and DofE as you could make a warm delicious filling dessert easily.

OMG yes, I thought I was the only person who remembered those, the lemon one is firmly planted in my memory as the most amazing thing ever (it probably tasted like floor cleaner but my 80s taste buds thought it was the bomb).

I miss a pizza Iceland used to sell too - it had hotdog in the crust and was utter trash nutritionally but it was awesome for a Saturday night in front of a crappy movie. And the little frozen raspberry ripple mousse pots you could get from Bejams (Iceland before Iceland!) - you could eat them frozen or let them defrost and have them as mousse.

Lucozade was wonderful when it was in glass bottles with a cellophane wrapper.

You must have been in hospital to taste it though! It was very much only seen on the side tables of hospital beds.

Secret chocolate bar. There was a petition going at some point, but to no avail.

I was going to say Secret bars. Was devastated when they disappeared from the shelves as a kids. Still think about them.

Hollowvoice · 04/05/2026 15:45

Oh! And Laughing Cow cheese in cubes! Used to come in 3(?) different flavours

AtIusvue · 04/05/2026 15:51

Banana bubbles- ‘the cereal that thinks it’s a milkshake’

TroysMammy · 04/05/2026 15:51

M&S used to sell little jars of stir into grains sauce. I remember mango, lime and coconut flavour and it made plain quinoa bearable.

lidl are a pita for getting you all excited about a microwave rice flavour amongst other things then pooff! it's gone, never to be seen again.

icepop2 · 04/05/2026 15:52

Cadbury's from before Mondelez bought it and ruined it. They literally ruined the best, reasonably priced thing in my life.

BunnyLake · 04/05/2026 15:52

Dr Oetker Pollo pizza. I loved that pizza. 😭

Burger King's mushroom double Swiss

Loved a mushroom double Swiss. The main reason to go to Burger King.

Oh god yes! Disgusting atrocity it is now. Won’t ever buy a Cadbury’s product again while they own it.

Cabana bars
Quattro drink
Heinz sponge pudding in the tins

Little cubes, slightly varying in colour, and trying to detect different tastes!

AutumnLover1990 · 04/05/2026 15:55

Knorr sizzle and stir tikka masala paste in the jar with a little pot of the tikka paste on top.
