With sweetcorn, lots of black pepper, and some horseradish. Yum. On a baked potato, in pasta, as a sandwich/roll filling. Mmmmm I’m hungry.

Impossible, thank heavens. My Albanian neighbour introduced me to it at a BBQ. It's delicious.

It's a classic old British thing, surprised you have only heard about it from an Albanian neighbour.

Tuna mayo is great. For a bit of a kick I add some horseradish to it.

Favourite filling - egg mayo + spring onion or onion salt/ powder to cheat. I can eat it off the spoon, so I have to be disciplined and leave some for the soft rolls or springy yeasty white bread.

I don't boil the eggs, too much faff and I'm usually dyingin to gobble it down, so my heretics version is to scramble a few eggs until they are set far more than I would allow them if eating them on toast IYSWIM. A few minutes rapid cooling down on a cold plate and they are ready to mix. So quick, so easy. No boiling the eggs, no running (wasting) water trying to cool them down, no peeling eggshells, no mashing the eggs up. Easy - well that works for me!

I agree though, tuna and mayo is a close second. I often add grated mature cheddar too.

ClassicalQueen · 24/04/2026 19:30

One of my favourites! I sometimes make myself some as a snack.

DollopOfFun · 24/04/2026 19:34

Tuna with salad cream on white bread. And crucially... made in advance, wrapped in tin foil or cling film, and crammed into a lunch box to be left for 4 hours before eating.

Okay, I don't go quite that far nowadays, but I will admit to making the sandwich up in the morning but leaving it in the fridge until lunchtime to eat it. Something nice just happens to the tuna when its allowed to wait a few hours before it's scarfed.

Balloonhearts · 24/04/2026 19:37

Tuna with salad cream instead of mayo is even nicer.

Never heard of it at all before last Tuesday! I always had it with sugar on as a child or in pies etc.

TwelvePinkDolphins · 24/04/2026 20:22

Well that’s my lunches for next week sorted, thanks OP!

Ficinothricegreat · 24/04/2026 20:27

I agree with making it in advance, it just hits different.

ohyesido · 24/04/2026 20:41

Has to have sweetcorn in it otherwise it’s a bit bland

I like cucumber or spring onion with mine.

Tiddlywinky · 24/04/2026 20:44

A touch of Worcestershire sauce for me mixed with chunks of hard boiled egg.

Also nice with a bit of lemon juice and black pepper.

Newgolddream70 · 24/04/2026 20:45

Is it ok to say tuna and …… salad cream? 😄

Yes it is allowed, 😀

FurForksSake · 24/04/2026 21:27

Back in the 90s we often had Tina mousse and crusty bread for dinner. It was delicious hot out the oven or as part of a fork buffet

sanityisamyth · 24/04/2026 21:35

Even the thought makes me feel ill. Mayonnaise tastes and feels like cum and tuna is just revolting. I hate fish! The two together is just no. I have a big problem with lots of foods though.

That was how I had mostly when a kid, but my grandmother would have with salt. This was a long time ago, and she was very old at the time. Always saying we should try it. Occasionally had it with salt much later if I was doing a crumble.

DreamingOfGeneHunt · 24/04/2026 21:37

@FurForksSake ooh I like the sound of that.

I had a friend who made the best tuna pie, with white sauce and lots of lemon to squeeze on, but I can't remember how she did it.

FurForksSake · 24/04/2026 21:45

It was tuna fish, finely diced celery, mayo, cheese and I feel like it had some additional egg to bind it.

tooloololoo · 24/04/2026 21:48

Tuna, mayonnaise, American mustard, encona pepper sauce (few drops) paprika, spring onions , finely grated red onion

This thread made me eat tuna mayo on potato waffles for dinner last night! 😆

On waffles! That sounds amazing
