Tuna with mayo mashed in, it’s just so lovely, isn’t it?!

Any other simple foods that are delish

Off-thread theme I know but English asparagus with shaved Parmesan cheese & Guernsey butter is my all time favourite. Only a short season for the English stuff but far superior & better than flying it from Peru!

Beans on toast, cheap, quick, filling and semi healthy.

I don't like it mashed together as often there's too much mayo. I like to use the tuna in oil and squirt the mayo on top once I've added it to sandwich.

I'd say a cheese toastie or cheese on toast is one of the most simple but beautiful things.

Or fresh home made bread with salted butter.

FurForksSake · Yesterday 20:01

I had it for dinner with a whole can of sweetcorn. Delicious!

Disgusting. It’s like cat food.

A simple cold roast chicken salad with a big, crispy, buttery jacket potato

2 nights ago I went to bed dreaming of a tuna sandwich. The next day for lunch I slathered 2 slices of oat bread with lurpack, added a whole tin of tuna mixed with mayo, cucumber slices & iceberg lettuce.

I love it with the tuna mayo meets the butter and seeps together into the bread. Fabulous.

You’ve tried cat food?

It’s so versatile.
Pasta salad
sandwich
wrap
jacket potato
tuna melt
on a cracker or rice cake
on toast even then popped back under the grill.

You are definitely not being unreasonable

British-grown asparagus and strawberries are available now from Ocado. I only buy both when they're British so this is a big moment for us. The asparagus is incredibly expensive at the moment. I'm hoping it will be a bit cheaper in a week or two. The strawberries are almost certainly grown in polytunnels this early in the year, but we had them last night and enjoyed them. I always rinse and hull them, then cut them in half and sprinkle with a little sugar and leave them for a few minutes before we eat them.

Good reminder about tuna mayo. I have some tinned tuna in and it needs using up.

Simple things that are really lovely:
Almost anything you can make with eggs. Poached, fried, scrambled, soft-boiled, hard-boiled, omelettes, baked, all marvellous. Egg and chips is just wonderful, as long as the yolks are still runny. Needs plenty of salt, pepper and malt vinegar. Egg and cress sandwiches, mmmmm.

Beans on toast.

Baked potato with lots of butter.

Bread and butter.

Tomato sandwich - has to be eaten as soon as it's made or the bread goes soggy. Bread or roll, butter, sliced tomato, salt, pepper. Perfect on its own but obviously terrific with added cheese, chicken, ham or cold roast beef.

Feta and feta

Stick a few capers in and I'm in heaven 😋

What tuna does everyone recommend - my fav is Waitrose in Olive oil. A bit more expensive maybe but very good value as you have to fight with the tuna to get it out it’s so tightly packed. And yummy.

FrenchFryFrances · Yesterday 20:55

I love tuna mayo but can’t justify the calories at the moment. I’ve been pretending tuna, yogurt and a tiny splat of mayo is as good. It isnt
One of my favourite sandwiches is Tuna, mayonnaise, black olives, feta and red onion.
I also love shredded chicken, mayonnaise and American mustard.

petitpasta · Yesterday 21:02

Agree on tuna mayo but dippy eggs and soldiers is a top tier lunch.

VictoriaEra2 · Yesterday 21:32

It’s a hell dish to me. Love all other kinds of fish but tuna mayo makes me hurl.

I like it too, tuna mayo with a bit of salt and spring onion, I use chunky cucumber slices to scoop it up and shovel it into my mouth from the bowl!

I can identify with every word of this. Best flavour combination ever.

Tink3rbell30 · Yesterday 21:43

Much much nicer with salad cream.

Feta cheese and raspberries.

Together? Those are two of my favourite foods, but I’ve never thought of combining them 🤯

Has anyone seen Jersey Royals yet? My fave is a bowl of those with sea salt. And leftovers fried off the next day.....And I want the proper ones with the flakey skin not the ones that look like new potatoes.

ETA - the supermarket ones last year were not good.

Mischance · Yesterday 21:44

I love it - especially nice if you splash out on the expensive tuna in olive oil in jars - delicious!

M&S tuna steak (NOT chunks) in spring water is really good - very tightly packed as well. Look out for the packs of 4 - much better value than single tins.

Add some giant capers.. even more moorish.
