AIBU to expect my sister to store my bike briefly?

On Friday I bought a new bike off marketplace. I currently have my old bike in my hallway as I need to clean it up and sell it so I took my new bike to my sisters and popped it in the hallway. She was at work so I sent her a message saying I’ve temporarily put a bike in her hallway and it will be moved in about a weeks time. Didn’t hear anything back until evening when she messaged telling me to come and move the bike. I told her I had nowhere to put it until I sell my old one but reassured her I’d be cleaning it up over weekend and will list it on Monday.

Yesterday morning she sent another message saying her husband was fuming about the bike saying it was “ruining their hallway” and he wanted it moved. I said it will be moved asap.

This morning I got up to see my new bike sat in front of my house on the driveway. I’ve messaged her and she said she didn’t do it, her husband did. So I said I’m bringing it back as it can’t stay on the driveway because obviously it will get stolen!! Not to mention weather damage. She replied saying not to bring it back or her DH will simply leave it in the street.

Im fuming because there has been many times they have stored stuff at my house and I’ve had to just work around it.

Anyway they have a keyboard at my house and I’ve told her either the bike gets stored there for a few days max or the keyboard goes to live outside. She’s not replied yet.

AIBU?? I could get my bike sold by Wednesday.

Take the keyboard to your sister and leave the bike there, as everyone is saying

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 19/04/2026 10:41

Also a bike is a particularly annoying thing to store - the pedals stick out and people bash into them, plus it looks really messy. A keyboard doesn’t do that.

LadyInRainbow · 19/04/2026 10:41

Oh your the candle blowing out, toilet sharing sister pair you have an odd dynamic with your sister and need to reduced contact with each other for both your sakes as you both sound unbalanced!

outerspacepotato · 19/04/2026 10:48

Maybe your BIL is fed up with you doing thoughtless things. Who just dumps a bike in somebody's house without asking? Well, duh, the same kind of person who blows out the candles on a kid's birthday cake.

It's no wonder why you're in constant conflict with your family.

What, for buying a bike and expecting my sister to help me store it for a few days? Yeah ok 🙄

Oh it's YOU. Here you go - https://www.nhs.uk/nhs-services/mental-health-services/

You need some help - whether it's for making up weird stories on the internet or for being such a bizarre and unreasonable person, I still don't know 😂

I was about to post that this is a reverse, but seeing who the OP is I change my opinion to - this is bullshit

Is this the one who blew the candles out on her nephews cake?

ETA: Ah, yes. I see. Carry on.

Thank you! It wouldn’t even be a full week, a few days is all I’m asking. I did say a week initially but after the backlash I said I can sort it in a few days.

But you aren't "asking". You just dumped a bike in her hall and told her you were leaving it there, you say for a week but what if your bike doesn't sell immediately?

For most people I'd say the whole thing is U, but it seems like you and your sister have a very....unusual relationship which includes letting yourself into each others' houses and dumping storing stuff at each others', which, while weird, if that's what you both think is normal and are happy with, fair enough, I can see why you think it's unreasonable for you to store all her stuff and not vice versa, and if you are no longer happy to store her keyboard, tell her that.

But you are completely unreasonable to insist you are asking for anything when you didn't.

Tillow4ever · 19/04/2026 10:59

@AliceNotInChains i have a question about the keyboard.

Did you buy it for your sister’s kid(s) at Christmas? And they’ve asked if they can leave it at yours because they don’t have space? Just seems odd that it’s been at yours since Xmas..

Yes.

Do you have any friends or want any op?

all your posts are always really really strange and unusual behaviour and you are always oblivious to what you’ve done wrong.

if you don’t have any, and do want some, it might be worth watching how other people behave in situations, and copying that. (Although not your sister in this case, but that’s because the two of you absolutely despise each other so behave appallingly to one another).

MousseMousse · 19/04/2026 11:12

"Weather damage" 😆

Yep!! And the same poster wanging on about the main bathroom on holiday! 🤭

She's never going to see that she is unreasonable, no matter how many people explain it.

BeanQuisine · 19/04/2026 11:15

Maybe you could ride the bike to that castle apartment, and store it in the long spooky corridor that prevented you from going back to your ensuite for a weewee. If I remember rightly.

godmum56 · 19/04/2026 11:15

AliceNotInChains · 19/04/2026 08:11

Where exactly??

"where" is not relevant. Assuming this is not a "joke" your bike problem is not your sister's bike problem. If you had dumped it in my hallway it would have gone straight to the tip.

zingally · 19/04/2026 11:18

This is bonkers.

You can't just dump a bike in someone elses house, without at least asking first!

If it's only for a few days, as you claim, find somewhere to put it in your own house!

What a bizarre post.

QueenOfErrors · 19/04/2026 11:30

It’s only a bike for a short time and the sister was informed. It’s hardly the end of the world and BIL is being over the top. Are people losing the ability to return a favour? I’ve had half the contents of a flat plus two people squeezing in for 6 weeks. The time frame here is a few days. It’s called being kind.

viques · 19/04/2026 11:36

Call me psychic, but I have a feeling your sister will be asking for her spare key back any day now…..

The sister was “informed” not “asked”. That makes a difference.

Loveapostitnote · 19/04/2026 11:41

Has anyone asked for a diagram yet!? Or maybe a floor plan of your house OP so we can work out where you could put your new bike 🤔

If it’s only a bike for a short time, what is the object going to morph into in the medium term?

Weather damage plus a bike is easier to steal than a load of garden furniture !

tarpaulin and lock it up securely?
