AIBU to expect my sister to store my bike briefly?

On Friday I bought a new bike off marketplace. I currently have my old bike in my hallway as I need to clean it up and sell it so I took my new bike to my sisters and popped it in the hallway. She was at work so I sent her a message saying I’ve temporarily put a bike in her hallway and it will be moved in about a weeks time. Didn’t hear anything back until evening when she messaged telling me to come and move the bike. I told her I had nowhere to put it until I sell my old one but reassured her I’d be cleaning it up over weekend and will list it on Monday.

Yesterday morning she sent another message saying her husband was fuming about the bike saying it was “ruining their hallway” and he wanted it moved. I said it will be moved asap.

This morning I got up to see my new bike sat in front of my house on the driveway. I’ve messaged her and she said she didn’t do it, her husband did. So I said I’m bringing it back as it can’t stay on the driveway because obviously it will get stolen!! Not to mention weather damage. She replied saying not to bring it back or her DH will simply leave it in the street.

Im fuming because there has been many times they have stored stuff at my house and I’ve had to just work around it.

Anyway they have a keyboard at my house and I’ve told her either the bike gets stored there for a few days max or the keyboard goes to live outside. She’s not replied yet.

AIBU?? I could get my bike sold by Wednesday.

If I got home from work and found a random bike blocking my hallway I’d go postal.

WhyWouldSomeoneDoThat · 19/04/2026 09:33

You clearly seem close with your sister to have keys to her house and to have stored stuff for each other previously. So I can see why you maybe thought it would be ok to drop your bike off there. But it has clearly taken a different turn and they/he doesn’t want it there. So in this case I would suck it up and take your bike into your flat and put it somewhere, albeit inconvenient, until it’s sold. I have lived in absolutely tiny flats and sometimes you’ve just got to edge around items when you’re in the middle of a clear out or whatever. It seems like the husband may have ‘forgotten’ that he is storing his massive keyboard in your flat though so I would definitely say you don’t have space for it anymore, and it’s going outside in an an hour/or he/your sis can collect it before then. Then I imagine you won’t be storing stuff for each other in the same way going forwards.

Toddlerteaplease · 19/04/2026 09:34

I wouldn’t dream of doing this without asking, and nor would my sister! Why didn’t you sell your old bike first? I’d be furious.

AliceNotInChains · 19/04/2026 08:11

Where exactly??

In one of the rooms or the hallways or the balcony or the garden?

BunnyLake · 19/04/2026 09:35

AliceNotInChains · 19/04/2026 08:11

Where exactly??

You’re not getting it are you?

ConstantlyFuriosa · 19/04/2026 09:36

I think it’s the casual way you state you left your new bike there without asking. The height of entitlement.

RightOnTheEdge · 19/04/2026 09:38

AliceNotInChains · 19/04/2026 08:44

Weather damage plus a bike is easier to steal than a load of garden furniture !

Your bike is not going to get weather damaged in a few days 🙄
Put a cover over it.

YAVU to dump a bike in your sister's hallway without asking.

Your sister sounds as bad as you. No wonder her husband is pissed off he's probably sick to death at the pair of you CFers.

Juicyblackberry · 19/04/2026 09:39

AliceNotInChains · 19/04/2026 08:11

Where exactly??

Could you put the new bike in your living room just for a few days ? Or bedroom ?

It all sounds very petty tbh. Do you not communicate properly before you do anything the other might object to ?

What, for buying a bike and expecting my sister to help me store it for a few days? Yeah ok 🙄

well yes

and also the utter weirdness was your thread about you blowing out for young nephews birthday candles AND the one about you and the holiday bathroom situation 😆

FancyBiscuitsLevel · 19/04/2026 09:44

Oh OP I’ve found the solution for you! Put the spare bike in your special bathroom. Yes you’ll have to move it when you go to the loo, but as it’s just you who’s allowed to use that room, you’ll only be inconveniencing yourself. problem solutioned.

She definitely has a co-dependent and completely unhealthy sibling rivalry thing going on with her sister, bordering on obsession.

I don't understand why you'd be so joined at the hip if everything your sister does annoys the fuck out of you.

There seems to be a recurrent issue with boundary crossing in this relationship, both physical and metaphorical.

Trainup · 19/04/2026 09:47

What?! This is so odd. Do you not have a bike lock ?

Madformaltesers · 19/04/2026 09:50

Bathrooms, birthday candles and now bikes? None of it is rational or what families do

It must be to do with the letter B.

This is a joke yes?

I think 90% of posts are fake! Big beautiful fake posts as a certain orange bastard would say!

Butterme · 19/04/2026 10:04

I can’t believe that you can’t see that you’re in the wrong here.

It’s your attitude and your entitlement that is the issue here.

A bike in a hallway is a big difference compared to a keyboard, no matter how big the keyboard is.

It’s the fact that you did it without asking her and are now acting childish over it.

Why not just apologise and go and move it?
Get a tarp and put the bike in your garden.

You need to grow up.

Butterme · 19/04/2026 10:06

Zov · 19/04/2026 09:19

The same sort of person who blows out her nephew's birthday cake candles before he can do it. Grin

.

Edited

It’s not the same poster is it!!!

Omg she has some serious jealousy issues over her sister and this makes so much more sense now.

Poor sister and the rest of the family.
The sooner they go NC with OP, the better.
She lives to try and cause them drama,

What an odd dynamic you both have.

It's certainly strange that they don't talk before dumping stuff.

WhataGinormousPITA · 19/04/2026 10:14

Dear Lord, I've just read some of OP's recent posting history. The entitlement and lack of empathy for other people is astounding!

Didimum · 19/04/2026 10:17

A keyboard in a living room and garden furniture in a garden is nowhere near as inconvenient as a bike in a hallway.

Your sister may not have minded, but her husband does and it’s his house too.

What else have you stored at your sister’s house before now?

Monty36 · 19/04/2026 10:17

This is not really about the bike.

But about who calls the shots between the two of you. But now your BIL has decided he has a point of view and that he does.

You will have to stop putting your property into their home, and they likewise into yours.

Go and collect your bike and ask they collect the keyboard.

And learn from it.

I'm guessing a grand piano.

LadyInRainbow · 19/04/2026 10:33

Put in it the garden, padlock it, weather forecast decent this week or if you’re that worried get a cover would mean new bike could go outside too.

Anyahyacinth · 19/04/2026 10:36

I think this must be a joke...why can't it go in your living room or bedroom?

Bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, lounge, garden?
