AIBU to expect my sister to store my bike briefly?

On Friday I bought a new bike off marketplace. I currently have my old bike in my hallway as I need to clean it up and sell it so I took my new bike to my sisters and popped it in the hallway. She was at work so I sent her a message saying I’ve temporarily put a bike in her hallway and it will be moved in about a weeks time. Didn’t hear anything back until evening when she messaged telling me to come and move the bike. I told her I had nowhere to put it until I sell my old one but reassured her I’d be cleaning it up over weekend and will list it on Monday.

Yesterday morning she sent another message saying her husband was fuming about the bike saying it was “ruining their hallway” and he wanted it moved. I said it will be moved asap.

This morning I got up to see my new bike sat in front of my house on the driveway. I’ve messaged her and she said she didn’t do it, her husband did. So I said I’m bringing it back as it can’t stay on the driveway because obviously it will get stolen!! Not to mention weather damage. She replied saying not to bring it back or her DH will simply leave it in the street.

Im fuming because there has been many times they have stored stuff at my house and I’ve had to just work around it.

Anyway they have a keyboard at my house and I’ve told her either the bike gets stored there for a few days max or the keyboard goes to live outside. She’s not replied yet.

AIBU?? I could get my bike sold by Wednesday.

Put your phone down
start cleaning your old bike and sell it for pennies. Today. So you can get your new bike where your old bike it.

and stop behaving like a twat

Where exactly??

Why don't you put the old one in the garden and bring in your new one, can you honestly not see how rude it is to just dump things in other people's houses ?

Jesus fucking Christ.

Christ on a bike is more fitting, Surely? 😂

aredrosegrewup · 19/04/2026 08:16

You're being completely and utterly unreasonable. You don't get to dictate what other people store in their house for you. Put your old bike in your living room or bedroom and inconvenience yourself whilst you wait to sell it. The entitlement!

BudgetBuster · 19/04/2026 08:16

I'd probably take the key to my house from you if you were my sister. Absolutely CF.
Imagine dumping a BIKE in someone's house and refusing to move it 🙄

AliceNotInChains · 19/04/2026 08:11

Where exactly??

Anywhere at all, on your property.

Danikm151 · 19/04/2026 08:16

You didn’t even ask them!

Where exactly??

That’s your problem not your sisters. You’re very odd if you think it’s ok to dump a bike in someone else’s hallway!

modgepodge · 19/04/2026 08:17

The way this is written immediately made me think it’s a reverse, as surely no one can be this entitled. However, if it’s true, yes you do need to just tell your sister you need the space where the keyboard is for your bike now, so she needs to collect the keyboard today.

Betterbyfar · 19/04/2026 08:17

Let me guess.

You live alone.
You don’t have friends
You have struggled to forge relationships all your life
you have lots of issues with colleagues

Not when she regularly does it to me. I came home to find a load of garden furniture in my garden once as she’d bought it but wanted to clean up her garden first, she never asked or even told me it was there!

Why didn’t you ask first?? A bike in the hallway is a pain in the arse and it’s really not your sisters problem that you don’t think you’ve got space for your own bike. If you’d asked then they might have been fine with you leaving it for a few days but you don’t just dump things in other people’s houses! Give the keyboard back if that’s what you want to do but you really handled this badly.

gannett · 19/04/2026 08:18

AliceNotInChains · 19/04/2026 08:14

Thank you! It wouldn’t even be a full week, a few days is all I’m asking. I did say a week initially but after the backlash I said I can sort it in a few days.

Isn't the entire problem that you didn't ask? As in, before you dumped a bike in their hallway? I can't fathom just doing that without asking first (and why do you even have a key to their house).

Did they ask you whether they could store the keyboard at yours before they left it in your living room? If they did, and you said yes, that's a completely different situation.

If they just dumped it on you without asking first then your family's ways are just bizarre all round.

What an odd dynamic you both have.

Is this the sister whose young son had a birthday party and you blew out the candles on his cake?

Then you have a dysfunctional relationship and that's what needs sorting.

However a bike in a hallway is far more of a pain than garden furniture in the garden.

It all makes sense now

Interesting use of minimizing language OP. You don't "pop" a bicycle in someone's hallway. My DH and DC are keen cyclists,we have a lot of bikes at home. I never allow them in the hallway because they clutter it up and the handlebars can scuff the paintwork. You need to store your old one locked up outside at a bicycle park until you sell it. Our local train station has one that's under cover, you could try somewhere similar. Unless the drip feed is that it's a hugely expensive road racing bike, it will most likely be fine there for a couple of days.

There is nothing like that near us and I need it nearby whilst I work on it.

Yep!! And the same poster wanging on about the main bathroom on holiday! 🤭

Did you offer to store the keyboard or possibly they think they have loaned the keyboard to you so you can play it occasionally, or is it literally they asked you to store it for them and you have no use for it. I think if you let yourself in and put the bike in their house without asking first that was pretty unreasonable unless they literally plonked the keyboard in your front room without asking.

This! You are a CF, OP.

And a bike is far bigger than a keyboard, there is no comparison!

AliceNotInChains · 19/04/2026 08:11

Where exactly??

You should have thought about that first really.

But do as you suggested. Give the keyboard back and keep your own bike.
