AIBU to expect my sister to store my bike briefly?

On Friday I bought a new bike off marketplace. I currently have my old bike in my hallway as I need to clean it up and sell it so I took my new bike to my sisters and popped it in the hallway. She was at work so I sent her a message saying I’ve temporarily put a bike in her hallway and it will be moved in about a weeks time. Didn’t hear anything back until evening when she messaged telling me to come and move the bike. I told her I had nowhere to put it until I sell my old one but reassured her I’d be cleaning it up over weekend and will list it on Monday.

Yesterday morning she sent another message saying her husband was fuming about the bike saying it was “ruining their hallway” and he wanted it moved. I said it will be moved asap.

This morning I got up to see my new bike sat in front of my house on the driveway. I’ve messaged her and she said she didn’t do it, her husband did. So I said I’m bringing it back as it can’t stay on the driveway because obviously it will get stolen!! Not to mention weather damage. She replied saying not to bring it back or her DH will simply leave it in the street.

Im fuming because there has been many times they have stored stuff at my house and I’ve had to just work around it.

Anyway they have a keyboard at my house and I’ve told her either the bike gets stored there for a few days max or the keyboard goes to live outside. She’s not replied yet.

AIBU?? I could get my bike sold by Wednesday.

I was just thinking the same thing!

Most bizarre threads are started by trolls but I think OP is genuine and lives a very dysfunctional life and has some serious MH problems.

And must be incredibly hard for the family!

Did you borrow it, or did you let yourself in and nick it?

I messaged her at work and said “can I borrow your keyboard” she replied “if you can find it” so I went in and looked for it, found it and took it

What?? Who takes the bulbs out of hallways?

@AliceNotInChains get a tarp and a decent bike lock and leave the new bike in your garden.

Well the OP's BIL should, because the OP was so uncomfortable with a "spooky" hallway at a holiday let that she used her in-laws' toilet - rather than walk a few metres to her own.

That would be one way to stop her invading his house to dump her stuff.

The OP has serious boundary issues. She galumphs over everyone else's.

Betterbyfar · 19/04/2026 15:06

Op please please start a thread telling us more about you!

Do you work? Have friends? Tell us more about the past instances where you have butted heads with people.

Im outside sunbathing and really would love a giggle!

So she’s not actually storing the keyboard at yours? You’re borrowing it?

You felt justified for leaving the bike at hers because apparently she left a keyboard at yours - now you admit you’re borrowing it off her.

No wonder she’s so pissed off at you.

Why are you so resentful of your sister?

Is her DH your ex or someone that you fancied and you feel she stole him off of you?

So she didn't leave it in your house you have it in your house because you wanted it ? That isn't comparable to leaving a bike in her hallway

You'd think that would be obvious, wouldn't you? Not with this OP. Nope. Her brain works in mysterious ways. She's all:

'right, well fuck you then, if I can't dump my bike in your hallway then how dare you expect me to look after the keyboard you were kind enough to lend me four months ago when I asked? I'm going to drag it outside and leave it there in the rain to get nicked, to teach you a lesson.'

She'll be telling us she actually asked for her sister's old garden furniture that was apparently dumped in her garden next. 😂

JMSA · 19/04/2026 17:07

When you stored their stuff, did you run it past them first? Because that’s exactly what you should have done.

My head hurts reading this, the op must be mentally exhausted ALL THE TIME!

“If you can find it” was code for, “Get fucked you cheeky cow, I’m not going to the trouble of enabling your batshittery”. If you’re a real person you must surely be the epitome of the nightmare family
member.

Where exactly??

What is this some sort of entitlement. I would have taken your bike and dumped it somewhere. How old are you??? Are you still a petulant child?

Runningismyhappyplace50 · 19/04/2026 08:13

Not sure if this is real but you should have asked first- a bike in the house would be a massive inconvenience. You cannot compare a bike to a keyboard.

You can when it's a full sized piano one as OP previously said. I assume you missed that and thought computer keyboard like I did originally.

Laserwho · 19/04/2026 18:48

So OP you have a house, with more than one room not just your small hallway. Maybe put the bike in one of your rooms. There is no need to take it to your sister's.

Decacaffeinatednow · 19/04/2026 18:50

@K2054
The op asked to borrow the keyboard.
She is not storing it for her sister.

LLM21 · 19/04/2026 18:57

I mean you can ask and hope she says yes, but you are certainly not entitled to just do it and then not accept the repercussions.....

22YearsAndCounting · 19/04/2026 19:30

And me @Betterbyfar, I think OP is genuine too. Been on here a good few years (see user name) and can normally spot ‘em.

On a good note though, found my May user name … BathroomBirthdaysandBikes

Ya but given the OP purposely asked to borrow the keyboard, she wasn't actually storing it on behalf of the sister i don't think that's a reasonable comparison

morbidcuriosity · 19/04/2026 22:56

IF someone done that to me without asking first, I would do exactly what the husband did and drop it back to them, . you cant just expect people to help without asking first..
And a bike in my hallway would really annoy me.

I thought the keyboard was a full sized one? So piano length. How can something that big be missing in a house?

It's not as if it in the hallway where the OP abandoned her bike

Because it wasn’t put together when i borrowed it, it was in pieces under the spare bed. I took it home and DH built it so now it’s built she’s saying she doesn’t have space for it yet
