AIBU to expect my sister to store my bike briefly?

On Friday I bought a new bike off marketplace. I currently have my old bike in my hallway as I need to clean it up and sell it so I took my new bike to my sisters and popped it in the hallway. She was at work so I sent her a message saying I’ve temporarily put a bike in her hallway and it will be moved in about a weeks time. Didn’t hear anything back until evening when she messaged telling me to come and move the bike. I told her I had nowhere to put it until I sell my old one but reassured her I’d be cleaning it up over weekend and will list it on Monday.

Yesterday morning she sent another message saying her husband was fuming about the bike saying it was “ruining their hallway” and he wanted it moved. I said it will be moved asap.

This morning I got up to see my new bike sat in front of my house on the driveway. I’ve messaged her and she said she didn’t do it, her husband did. So I said I’m bringing it back as it can’t stay on the driveway because obviously it will get stolen!! Not to mention weather damage. She replied saying not to bring it back or her DH will simply leave it in the street.

Im fuming because there has been many times they have stored stuff at my house and I’ve had to just work around it.

Anyway they have a keyboard at my house and I’ve told her either the bike gets stored there for a few days max or the keyboard goes to live outside. She’s not replied yet.

AIBU?? I could get my bike sold by Wednesday.

Oh god it’s you. The candle-blowing bathroom grabber. Now also a bike dumper.

I couldn't have eye rolled more when I realised who the OP was.

You sounds utterly exhausting @AliceNotInChains

Your sister must have given you a key to her house, otherwise you broke in! So if she knows you have "form" for this kind of caper, it's up to her to get the key back, or change the locks. However, there's probably some complicated method of entry like a keypad, keysafe or whatnot. Still means sister trusts you with codes. And I wonder why?

Surely sister has somewhere outside like in a garage/shed or up against the back wall in the garden etc. where your bike could go. It's not that much to ask unless you are constantly taking the piss like this.

I'm assuming you live in a flat.

It’s only a bike for a short time and the sister was informed. It’s hardly the end of the world and BIL is being over the top. Are people losing the ability to return a favour? I’ve had half the contents of a flat plus two people squeezing in for 6 weeks. The time frame here is a few days. It’s called being kind.

bonkers responders as well

TheEllisGreyMethod · 19/04/2026 11:59

I would be livid if someone left a bike in my hall without asking, like really livid
I understand you stor stuff for them but it is polite to ask first regardless of history.
Just dump their keyboard back as you don't store things for each other anymore.

No! You have to be kidding? Not the bathroom grabber?

(a private message to the sister. take the bulbs out of your hallway lights, you know some people aren’t prepared to walk into places they think are spooky.)

Well the op said her sister stored garden furniture in OP’s garden, so she has her garden the bike could have gone in.

And the scary thing is… I think the Op is genuine!

I was just thinking the same thing!

Most bizarre threads are started by trolls but I think OP is genuine and lives a very dysfunctional life and has some serious MH problems.

This is really sad, if true. If true, I think that MN should manage these threads better to avoid the OP being exploited here. It cannot be good for anyone’s wellbeing and mental health to be so roundly criticised.

Since Christmas

Take the keyboard back. Leave it in their hallway. Explain you will no longer store their stuff. This seems like an issue between your sister and.her husband.

OneNewLeader · 19/04/2026 12:16

I have 2 bikes in my living room. Less than ideal.

SexIsNotNebulous · 19/04/2026 12:17

I actually laughed out at your cheek.

If you don't want two bikes in your hallway you should have sold yours before you bought a replacement. If it's only for a week, then you can put one in your living room.

I don’t live in a flat, I live in a house with a small hallway.

It's so try hard, it's getting painful to read.

I try to keep a tidy uncluttered house which is not easy with a fulL
time job and kids. Clutter and crap everywhere destroys my mental health. I’d be fuming if a bike was left in my house. Absolutely fuming. Pay for storage or get a lock

Scarlettpixie · 19/04/2026 12:45

Why do you have her keyboard? If you don’t want it tell her to shift it.

@AliceNotInChains you seek to have missed mine, and others, question about the keyboard. Did you give it as a Christmas gift & that’s why it’s being stored at your house? If not, how/why did it end up being stored at yours?

I borrowed it but I have my own now yet nowhere to put it and sister has nowhere to put hers so I’m stuck with it for now

Are you sure? What does your BiL say? Why do you think a bike will get damaged by being outdoors in "weather"?

Where exactly??

As @ZenNudist said, put it where her keyboard is in your house and put her keyboard in her hall

LiquoriceAllsorts2 · 19/04/2026 13:01

You asked to borrow the keyboard?? Well that completely changes that.
