Easter egg hunt at 6.30am

Both the parents outside with the kids, several kids running around screaming at 6.30am. Do people have no shame?

Memories don't have to be made at 6.30am outside.

No, there’s lots of ways to make memories (obviously😅) but it is a lovely one, that really doesn’t impact anyone else. Shut ya windows and seethe in silence. Or you know, get on with your own life and be grateful for the extra hour to enjoy the world 😉

Yes but I know long words so I call it use of hyperbole.

But people who object to kids being noisy outside once a year are Scroogey as McDuck and need to get over their meanness. Maybe therapy.

But why can’t the parents teach them to be considerate of others?

Mine were up at 6.30. We did an indoor trail to their “big eggs” (groundbreaking!) and let them out for the bunny hunt after breakfast at 8.30 - our reason was that our neighbours were sleeping. They were fine and had a really great morning. Am I a McDuck?

Hyperbole is a shorter word than exaggerate so not quite sure you achieved your aim with that comment 😂

And there you go again, no ones objecting to kids being out Confused

Not child hating. Noise hating. Being woken up hating. Irresponsible parent hating.

Plenty of responsible parents up at 6.30 on all sorts of days.

It’s also totally possible to pre-plan if your kids are early wakers and not have to go outside at the crack of dawn.

JumpinJehoshaphat · 05/04/2026 09:50

6:30? What absolute arseholes.

Namechangerage · 05/04/2026 09:50

OP, you are not unreasonable. We know our kids are early risers so we planned an indoor bit first - treasure hunt that led them to their big eggs. Then breakfast and outside at 8.30.

It’s very possible to make it magical without disrupting your neighbours and acting like entitled arseholes (parents not the kids obvs!)

MinnieMountain · 05/04/2026 09:50

I'm with you OP.
I saw a man with a 5yo carrying a ball on their way to a field away from houses at 6:50 this morning. Much more considerate.

That response makes not sense.

I can’t believe how many people think it’s ok to be waking the neighbours at 6:30 at a weekend. What’s wrong with teaching children to be respectful of people around them?

Perfectly reasonable if they keep you awake at night🤷‍♀️ in my case anyway. There's no way they're getting any rest this morning if they've disturbed mine last night.

Exactly. Completely normal to be up and about at that time!

Great message for the kids there 😳

Here we go ….. offended at everything brigade out at Easter

I'm an atheist but I agree with @Coffeeandbooks88 . Posters often think sneering at and mocking Christian beliefs is fair game and unfortunately in my view MNHQ let it go on.

Functioningdisaster · 05/04/2026 09:54

Omg I would be furious - that's really anti social. Are you going to say something?

Panama2 · 05/04/2026 09:54

Now the parents have a very long day filled with hyped up chocolate covered kids.

Melancholyflower · 05/04/2026 09:55

AliceAbsolum · 05/04/2026 06:59

Several people on this thread for starters

Yes, obviously people with young children who think it's fine to disturb everyone else at 6.30 am on a Sunday just because they are up.

I'm not a believer, but I understand that Easter Sunday is the most important day in the Christian calender, and not because it's an opportunity for children to run around screaming looking for eggs. Maybe those parents desperate to celebrate Easter could have done the hunt when they got back from church.🙄

You make a good point. I apologise

But Greek rather than Latinate so marks for pure boffiness. Full marks to you for bothering to count the letters, but please note the number of syllables is equal. Also I am having some extra marks for using the phrase “long words” rather than “better vocabulary” in an admittedly failed attempt to avoid patronising you.

Your second comment is on something I did not write.

So do I. 🤣

Me too 😂

I used to have to colour code mine, e.g. DC1: gold, DC2: orange, DC3: blue.

Otherwise we’d have been in A&E due to the ensuing scrum.

Smart idea 👏😁

Ah I see, you're one of "those posters".

Lolz at you didnt write the comment, it's in your post I quoted 😊

He got up pretty early on the Sunday too.

Stepsisterfromhell · 05/04/2026 10:06

I don't think you are being unreasonable in being annoyed about this but surely just go back to sleep now, rather than getting agitated all over Mumsnet?

Melancholyflower · 05/04/2026 10:07

Rileysp · 05/04/2026 08:04

I may be in a minority here. I have young kids…..

firstly I wouldn’t do it. But. 6.30 isn’t an unreasonable time. There’s always noise at that time. Birds/dogs/cars etc. it’s a normal time to get up.

secondly, how long will it last? Ten mins? Certainly less time than it takes to read this thread

thirdly. Kids are probably asleep by 7.30. Would the poster think they’d go in during the summer because of this. Doubt it.

It might not be an unreasonable time for you on a Sunday, but for many people at different life stages to you it is.
I certainly wasn't getting up at that time pre-kids, unless I had to for work and now mine are grown-up I don't get up that early, unless for a particular reason. I would not be woken by normal noise such as birds, but I would be by children screaming.
