Easter egg hunt at 6.30am

Both the parents outside with the kids, several kids running around screaming at 6.30am. Do people have no shame?

It was so inconsiderate. It ruined my cup of tea which I like to have after mowing the lawn.

@StMarie4me people aren’t complaining that children had an Easter Egg hunt, they are saying it shouldn’t be at 6.30am.

If parents didn’t hype it up so much children wouldn’t be clamouring to be up and screaming at that time.

If parents didn’t hype it up so much…

are you always this miserable? Honestly?

its a sad world mate if kids can’t get excited about chocolate eggs.

CruCru · 05/04/2026 09:24

Honestly? I can see why someone wouldn’t be thrilled but it is a few minutes once a year.

I’m quite weirded out by the differences between Christmas and Easter. People start flapping about getting ready for Christmas in mid November, who is going where for Christmas Day becomes a lot of drama, people spend a fortune and eat and drink to excess. By Christmas Day loads of people are exhausted.

Easter is the bigger religious festival but, unless you go to church, it gets treated as a long weekend with some chocolate. It doesn’t get the all bets are off treatment that Christmas does.

I'm picking on your post because it's the one I've most recently read. Although a garden Easter egg hunt may be 'a few minutes once a year', @AliceAbsolum has said their neighbours are generally inconsiderate with a barking dog and therefore this could be a straw/camel's back situation.

AliceAbsolum · 05/04/2026 06:52

If it was me I'd be feeling so guilty and anxious if I was outside with them for some reason. Do people not feel like that? Or ignore the emotion? Or maybe the children wanted to do it at 6.30am and they have no boundaries.

No because I've got real shit to feel guilty and anxious about. Get a grip.

Crunchymum · 05/04/2026 09:30

Oh goodness, did this turn into 11 pages of people trying to explain the ""It's what Jesus would have wanted" comment? Shame. Was a pithy little comment and not difficult to understand?

Mummyoflittledragon · 05/04/2026 08:39

Ah but he may have appreciated a bit of a crowd gathering for the event.

He was up pretty early because the disciples found the tomb already empty and he’d already been sighted by Thomas before word of the empty tomb got out.

Hollyhobbi · 05/04/2026 09:31

Triple glazing is the answer! Haven’t raft.

Rileysp · 05/04/2026 09:32

It probably was too early. But it’s not crime of the century either.

maybe it’s because I’ve young kids, but I don’t think I’ve ever been so scroogelike to get heated about little children having a bit of fun

and isn’t your house double glazed? You must be a REALLY light sleeper to be woken by a couple of kids in a neighbouring garden. It’s not like you’ll have the windows open.

I also don’t see 6.30 as early. It’s a normal time to get up. Maybe you’d sleep better if you had a more regular pattern😂

GardenCovent · 05/04/2026 09:34

I get it’s once a year but there’s no need to be out at 6.30.
Absolutely have an Easter egg hunt but even if the kids were up and excited at 6.30 it’s down to the parents to say no to going out at that time. Seems like the parents want an easy life by not saying no but don’t care about how it impacts others.

Ilovelifeverymuch · 05/04/2026 09:35

Caspianberg · 05/04/2026 06:52

I think it’s fine.
Its a bit of fun for 5 mins for kids
It’s only once a year.

It's only 5 mins of fun so do it at a reasonable time.....

sittingonabeach · 05/04/2026 09:36

@Rileysp my DC had fun at Easter, but we didn’t hype it up/commercialise it so they would be up at 6.30 at screaming pitch.

Some real fun sponges on this thread and I can get myself worked up by a lot of things.

A lot of child hating too, which is kind of mind boggling on this site. Happy noise outside is always good 😊

Liveshives · 05/04/2026 09:36

Yanbu.
I have never come across this in the busy area i live in.
Only the dregs allow their children out to scream and run a round waking their neighbours at 6.30am.

The rest of us know better and have respect for others.

Its what Jesus would have wanted

Child hating to think 6.30am is a bit early? Do you often exaggerate?

RisingSunn · 05/04/2026 09:39

Mine were ready to be in the garden at 6.50am - I held them off till 8.00am and even then they had to be very quiet.

6.30am is very inconsiderate.

Notmyreality · 05/04/2026 09:39

Megifer · 05/04/2026 08:23

And you use your parent words and say "not now it's too early, let's pop Watership Down on then we'll all be in the mood for some egg hunt fun after that"

Exactly.
Followed by Bambi in the afternoon.
Ah memories…

Not child hating. Noise hating. Being woken up hating. Irresponsible parent hating.

Yes but I know long words so I call it use of hyperbole.

But people who object to kids being noisy outside once a year are Scroogey as McDuck and need to get over their meanness. Maybe therapy.

Do you often make excuses for others poor parenting?

Waitingforthecold · 05/04/2026 07:09

Oh my god this is so miserable! It’s once a year, for a few year max. Your kids are only little once, make some memories with them

Memories don't have to be made at 6.30am outside.

I'd be very pissed off, I hate being woken up early.

You might find it necessary to mow the lawn at 6.30am next Sunday morning...

Not really, because your other neighbours don't deserve it, but wouldn't it be tempting!

Namechangerage · 05/04/2026 09:44

iamtryingtobecivil · 05/04/2026 08:17

Oh deary me
Have a coffee and a hot cross bun or a stray egg….

Why are you excusing this selfish behaviour?! Patronising and condescending in one go, well done 👏

I have young kids and we set up a little trail indoors to tide them over. Then they had breakfast and were allowed out at 8.30.

Chairdilemma · 05/04/2026 09:46

I agree with you Op. We have arseholes like that here too. Except it's OAP's! One is a set of old ladies who take their morning walk around 730am, talking as LOUDLY as possible as they pass people's windows. A few months ago one had a birthday, and they were out on a Sunday morning at 8am with those blowy horn things. Another is an old guy who has a BOOMING voice and he repeatedly calls his dogs name at 7am. FUCK OFF! A neighbour at our last house arranged for his gardeners to mow his lawn (with a loud petrol mower) at 740am on a Bank Holiday. Utter twats!

I would have shouted out of the window if I was you!

tachetastic · 05/04/2026 09:46

If it helps, the sugar rush should carry them through until lunchtime and then they’ll zonk out giving you a quiet afternoon.

And later they won’t want to sleep tonight so the parents will pay then…… 😁
