Is “joggers” twatty?

Alsocalledsophie · 02/04/2026 11:08

I recently posted about changing into joggers when I come home after work. Another poster pulled me and others up on the use of the word “joggers,” labelling it “twatty.” I’m surprised as I thought this was fairly standard language at this point 🤔

IABU: joggers is twatty
YANBU: joggers is standard language, definitely not twatty

Given that the poster admitted on the thread that people might disagree, I don't know why she couldn't have been disagreed with on the thread. Why start a whole new thread so that people can call her names when those people might not even have read what she originally said?

Mapletree1985 · 02/04/2026 11:36

Posters are so judgey on this site. Use the words you like!

Scruffysquirrels · 02/04/2026 11:37

Pulling anyone up on their use of language is twatty, but if I was going to, I think "twatty" is much more twatty than joggers, which sounds perfectly normal to me.

BauhausOfEliott · 02/04/2026 11:40

Pretty much every retailer sells them as joggers

BillieWiper · 02/04/2026 11:40

My family would always say joggers and they're Irish. What else could you call them, trackies? But if they're not tracksuit fabric and don't have a tracksuit top that goes with it that's not quite accurate surely?
I call them drawers sometimes. 🤣

You might get a raised eyebrow where I live but thats only because most people call them trackies or tracky bottoms if you want to be specific. But no its not twatty

Joggers is so much nicer than tracky bottoms though

we say "comfies" in my house

EstoyRobandoSuCasa · 02/04/2026 11:47

Nothing wrong with "joggers". Is anyone else thinking of the hapless Ian from One Day and his "tracky botts"?

In my neck of the woods, it depends on the material.

Joggers = Sweatshirt type material
Tracky= A bit more nylony or shiny

Neither is twatty

This.

I use both regularly and have never used the word “twatty” so I’m judging the person who judged you more.

Joggers are/is fine, it sounds like the person who calls them/the word twatty, is in fact a twat.

Btw, if you want to call someone a twat when they're being twatty, respond with "There We Are Then.." (first letter of each word spells TWAT).

Never heard of this but brilliant!

And joggers is a perfectly acceptable term.

finestmushroom · 02/04/2026 11:52

Joggers are what they are literally called on clothing websites so to say thats "twatty" is just stupid.

1000StrawberryLollies · 02/04/2026 11:52

I think that was a thread I was on! Blush I said that I disliked 'joggers' and also 'comfies' (worse), but I in my defence I did say that it was me who would probably sound twatty for saying that! I didn't say 'joggers' was twatty. I just think it sounds like what you'd call them if you were talking to a toddler. I call them tracksuit bottoms. 'Comfies' is ghastly though.

finestmushroom · 02/04/2026 11:53

I call them tracksuit bottoms thats not the same though, its a different type of clothing

DreamyScroller · 02/04/2026 11:55

What else am I supposed to call them?

mountainpie · 02/04/2026 11:56

So long as it’s not “comfies” Envy

Not to me it isn't. Trackies are surely short for tracksuit bottoms? I just googled 'trackies' and from images they seem to be the same as 'joggers'.

OutwiththeOutCrowd · 02/04/2026 12:00

Is it because many of the people donning joggers (and sweatshirts) are in fact getting ready for lounging (and definitely not sweating)?

Anyway, just tell her she can jog on with her comments.

Ifailed · 02/04/2026 12:01

It depends on whether you are about to go jogging or take part in track events. If neither then they’re just a pair of trousers.

The difference:

"Tracksuits are matching, often synthetic sets (jacket and pants) designed for athletic warm-ups and performance. Joggers are lightweight, tapered pants designed for casual, stylish wear, featuring elasticized ankles"

gostickyourheadinapig · 02/04/2026 12:02

I thought this thread was going to be about people who use public footpaths as their personal running track.

StylishAndBeautiful · 02/04/2026 12:03

I don't particularly like it but everyone seems to call them that. I say jogging trousers as joggers are what I call people who go out running.

StoppedToTieHisShoe · 02/04/2026 12:03

In what way twatty? Pretentious? What did they think you should have said? I say joggies FYI.

diddl · 02/04/2026 12:07

Stylish?😂

Sure, I have some plain black joggers that just resemble normal trousers but with softer material. I mean, I wouldnt wear them on a night out but they dont look "bad" in any way

SummerFate · 02/04/2026 12:15

I think everyone I know calls them joggers and always has - including my 75 year old mother, who is unlikely to have jumped on it as a “trend”.

I do hear people say trackie bottoms but, like others on the thread, I see those as sporty looking, nylon type bottoms, whereas joggers to me are soft material and the term covers anything you’d lounge about in.

Why keep the thread going by posting on it if you object so much? Dry your eyes.
