Is “joggers” twatty?

I recently posted about changing into joggers when I come home after work. Another poster pulled me and others up on the use of the word “joggers,” labelling it “twatty.” I’m surprised as I thought this was fairly standard language at this point 🤔

IABU: joggers is twatty
YANBU: joggers is standard language, definitely not twatty

That's one search result. The first two I found were:

Trackie bottoms/bums are these: Tracksters or similar. They are brilliant but not stylish or beautiful.

Some people call them ‘jobby catchers’ where I live

I slouch around the house in winter in what the Amazon page calls "Womens Fleece Casual Oversized Jogging Joggers Tracksuit Bottoms Ladies Jog Pants". To save time, they are generally referred to here as "Snugging Pants".

Tracksuits are traditionally sets though - tops and bottoms you can buy together - hence the "suits" part of the word.

Joggers are just bottom parts.

Also- I dont see how "joggers" sound more childish than "trackies"- trackies sounds far more childish to me 🤷‍♀️

I say trackies. My friend and her family call them comfies.

The kind of person who finds joggers twatty is the same kind of person who gets horrible offended at words like comfy or shudders if you say cardie.

I’ve just uttered that word to my DC and it was received normally.
i usually say trackie bottoms though.

Anything gathered tightish at the ankle were referred to as shit stoppers where I came from - a long time ago. A derogatory term as they weren't popular.

They both sound childish to me. I think both are relatively new shortenings. When I was a kid they were definitely tracksuit bottoms or jogging bottoms. I don't mind 'trackies' as much. To me, joggers are people who jog!

‘Joggers’ is both fairly standard usage and awful. Like ‘cuppa’ or ‘brew’ or ‘spends’. I mean, something being widely used doesn’t make it less repellent.

Out of interest - has anyone else noticed that no one goes 'jogging' anymore ? It's always 'running'.

I'll tell what is twatty....when people on the S&B board on here describe items of clothing as 'pieces'. Saw it yesterday; a wanky middle class wannabe kept calling Reiss and Me & Em items 'pieces'

Normal. Teens all wear them and all use that word.

And trackies are very different material to joggers btw.

Not really a term we use in Ireland so I would have just thought it sounds "Englishy" 😜
