Is “joggers” twatty?

Alsocalledsophie · 02/04/2026 11:08

I recently posted about changing into joggers when I come home after work. Another poster pulled me and others up on the use of the word “joggers,” labelling it “twatty.” I’m surprised as I thought this was fairly standard language at this point 🤔

IABU: joggers is twatty
YANBU: joggers is standard language, definitely not twatty

The difference:

"Tracksuits are matching, often synthetic sets (jacket and pants) designed for athletic warm-ups and performance. Joggers are lightweight, tapered pants designed for casual, stylish wear, featuring elasticized ankles"

That's one search result. The first two I found were:
"A tracksuit is a two-piece outfit consisting of trousers and a matching jacket (often with a front zipper), designed for athletic training, warming up, or casual, comfortable "athleisure" wear." (alongside a picture of jogging bottoms aka tracksuit bottoms)

and

"a loose top and trousers, worn either by people who are training for a sport or exercising, or as informal clothing".

Some people call them ‘jobby catchers’ where I live

Gonners · 02/04/2026 12:20

I slouch around the house in winter in what the Amazon page calls "Womens Fleece Casual Oversized Jogging Joggers Tracksuit Bottoms Ladies Jog Pants". To save time, they are generally referred to here as "Snugging Pants".

Tracksuits are traditionally sets though - tops and bottoms you can buy together - hence the "suits" part of the word.

Joggers are just bottom parts.

Also- I dont see how "joggers" sound more childish than "trackies"- trackies sounds far more childish to me 🤷‍♀️

TheKateColumbo · 02/04/2026 12:21

I say trackies. My friend and her family call them comfies.

henlake7 · 02/04/2026 12:21

The kind of person who finds joggers twatty is the same kind of person who gets horrible offended at words like comfy or shudders if you say cardie.
You know.....a twat.😏

Nosejobnelly · 02/04/2026 12:22

I’ve just uttered that word to my DC and it was received normally.
i usually say trackie bottoms though.

Fizbosshoes · 02/04/2026 12:25

We always call them joggers
(Although id never wear them for jogging)
What is the more acceptable name for them?

paddyclampofthethirdkind · 02/04/2026 12:30

Nowt wrong with joggers although I’d say trackies!

Who the ruddy heck would say comfies though?! Probably someone who is part of the twinkly lights brigade who will be currently seeing their arses now the lighter nights are here!!!

Anything gathered tightish at the ankle were referred to as shit stoppers Confused where I came from - a long time ago. A derogatory term as they weren't popular.

called jog bots at the moment - names change - it's interesting

UndoRedo · 02/04/2026 12:32

I say track pants but I'm not British

Westfacing · 02/04/2026 12:35

Ashkrevon · 02/04/2026 11:46

Joggers is so much nicer than tracky bottoms though

we say "comfies" in my house

Comfies? That's the worst😄

I'm going with trackie bums!

American I assume? Pants and all that...

zingally · 02/04/2026 12:37

But that's what they're called!

I'm in the midlands, and round me I've only ever heard them referred to as joggers or jogging bottoms.

MyDeftDuck · 02/04/2026 12:38

TMFF · 02/04/2026 11:12

I wouldn't give them the attention they were seeking to be honest.

It's a perfectly normal phrase and they'll know that.

They both sound childish to me. I think both are relatively new shortenings. When I was a kid they were definitely tracksuit bottoms or jogging bottoms. I don't mind 'trackies' as much. To me, joggers are people who jog!

Ah, I do jog so maybe thats why I like the word 😂

TheNorns · 02/04/2026 12:45

‘Joggers’ is both fairly standard usage and awful. Like ‘cuppa’ or ‘brew’ or ‘spends’. I mean, something being widely used doesn’t make it less repellent.

Laiste · 02/04/2026 12:48

Yeah - joggers is what we call trackie bottoms.

Out of interest - has anyone else noticed that no one goes 'jogging' anymore ? It's always 'running'.

MikeYoungIsStillHot · 02/04/2026 12:48

I'll tell what is twatty....when people on the S&B board on here describe items of clothing as 'pieces'. Saw it yesterday; a wanky middle class wannabe kept calling Reiss and Me & Em items 'pieces'

patate10 · 02/04/2026 12:49

Normal. Teens all wear them and all use that word.

patate10 · 02/04/2026 12:49

And trackies are very different material to joggers btw.

Charlize43 · 02/04/2026 12:50

I thought Joggers were people who go jogging.

Track suit trousers?

MyMilchick · 02/04/2026 12:50

Not really a term we use in Ireland so I would have just thought it sounds "Englishy" 😜
