Is “joggers” twatty?

Alsocalledsophie · 02/04/2026 11:08

I recently posted about changing into joggers when I come home after work. Another poster pulled me and others up on the use of the word “joggers,” labelling it “twatty.” I’m surprised as I thought this was fairly standard language at this point 🤔

IABU: joggers is twatty
YANBU: joggers is standard language, definitely not twatty

I've only ever called them joggers - that's literally the name of that garment. That or jogging bottoms, which is a bit lengthy.

What are we "meant" to be calling them, then? Sweatpants, or something? Which I think is the American term?

I'm in America, and joggers and sweatpants are slightly different items.

Sweatpants are heavier fleece and are not becessarily cuffed at the ankle. They can be tightened in at the ankle with elastic, cuffed, or left loose. They are always casual wear and the cut is always a bit on the roomy side.

Joggers are lighter stretch/ knit fabric and always have a cuff at the ankle. They are tapered and come in a range of styles from loungewear to more stylish attire.

American I assume? Pants and all that...

Irish people use the word pants to refer to trews of all sorts.

LoneCar · 04/04/2026 19:12

Jogging bottoms. Any contraction is hideous. And they should only be worn for exercise.

Cherryicecreamx · 04/04/2026 19:23

Surely "joggers" or "trackies" are the same thing.. what else would you call them? Jogging bottoms/tracksuit bottoms maybe (what my mum would say!). I think it's pretty standard. It's the first thing I like to do as well, to get all comfy when I get home!

You have clearly never been jogging 😁

SpringAndSunshineIsHere · 04/04/2026 19:47

I’d call them Trackie Bs - is that more twatty or less so?

Just popping off to put on my lounge suit 👋

Why?

OriginalSkang · 04/04/2026 20:03

What exercise can you do in joggers? Certainly not jogging!

You might get a raised eyebrow where I live but thats only because most people call them trackies or tracky bottoms if you want to be specific. But no its not twatty

I use both words but trackies and joggers are a different material in my eyes

XenoBitch · 04/04/2026 21:02

I have seen them labelled as 'joggers' in shops.
YANBU.
People who pull others up on harmless and common language are the twatty ones.

If by exercise, you mean slobbing about the house, then yes... joggers are perfect for that 😆

Rosalind1971 · 04/04/2026 21:28

Are these the same dickheads who use the word Bougie

Emmz1510 · 04/04/2026 21:33

I’m more likely to call them joggies, joggy bottoms or tracky bottoms. But no, definitely not twatty. What a strange thing to say.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 04/04/2026 21:46

I think the term 'twatty' makes you sound rather childish, speccy-four eyes.

N0ChildrenYet · 04/04/2026 21:47

Really don’t know what their issue is and how it is twatty 😂 Trackies/joggers… they’re the same thing. Not sure what else you’re meant to call them quickly? Everything else sounds weird to me 😂

I’ve got an MA in English (not that that means much) but both joggers and trackies are in the dictionary and I’m very happy to use them 😂

Thissideof40 · 04/04/2026 22:40

I call them joggers. The person who pulled you up sounds twatty!

I’ve worn joggers for running, the gym and yoga.

In my neck of the woods, it depends on the material.

Joggers = Sweatshirt type material
Tracky= A bit more nylony or shiny

Neither is twatty

Agreed with this.

Literally no other word for a jogger, they are simply joggers!

Well, you must have been very uncomfortable for all three!

ForPlumReader · 05/04/2026 10:21

"joggers" is fine, not so keen on "twatty".

The reason some people call joggers comfies is because they are comfortable! Are yours too small or something?
I prefer them to leggings for exercise particularly in colder weather. They’re squat proof, never roll down and I don’t have to worry about a wedgie.

OriginalSkang · 05/04/2026 18:01

I recently had to buy some joggers at work (a uni) because I left my pe kit at home before the gym. They are standard joggers. Def not too small because they only had a men's size large. Squatting was impossible! They aren't built to stretch, there was a load of tension at the front/crotch. I go pretty hard at the gym and they were hotter than the sun and not built to hide sweat

I can't imagine ever needing to keep warm at the gym 😅

Strange, I don’t have that issue with my joggers at all, mine are quite stretchy.
The only minor issue I have with them over leggings is they ride up slightly the ankle in some of the yoga poses.
Standard jersey trackies are warmer than leggings I’ll give you that, I’d wear those more outdoors or in yoga as the building is freezing in winter but I have some which are really thin like a t-shirt, quite a few people in my gym wear similar dump covers/parachute pant type trousers for lifting.

Sunnydays60 · 05/04/2026 21:47

I'd call them joggers. Tbh anything is better than what I heard a while ago - referring to the type with the elasticated cuff at the bottom as "jobby catchers"!! I believe it was in Scotland. 😂😂😂
