To take up a bigger table than needed in a cafe?

To try to use a bigger table in a cafe?

I know it’s not always possible, such as during busy times, and I would never ‘hog’ a larger table for myself.

But during quiet times… such as right now! I’m in a cafe on my own with 2 dogs and I’ve sat myself at a 4 seater table.

I actually hate 2 seater ones. They are just too small and I get claustrophobic with all the clutter of cutlery, condiments, sides of veg etc.

I like to spread out!

But it does make it ok doesn’t it? Because it’s allowed. Being allowed to do something is the very definition of it being ok to do that thing.

This is excruciating.

I know.
They are also making out that cafe owners only allow dogs because they have been pressured to so. The cafe owner I mentioned in an older post loves dogs and wants them in his cafe.

I think it is more inconsiderate to take two dogs into a cafe.

Not if the cafe actually allows dogs.

We visited a cafe one day. It was really busy and only had a 4 person table free. We took the table. A couple came in about 15 minutes later and were looking around for somewhere to sit. There was nowhere else so we invited them to share our table. It was awkward at first but we got chatting to them (tourists). One turned out to be a medical professor and had heard DP moaning about a migraine attack. The professor chimed in asking about whether a certain tablet had been prescribed. It hadn't. She then recommended to go to the GP and ask for it. The medication has been life changing. A good deed was well rewarded.

VERY unreasonable!! Are your dogs people? Why do you think its ok to go to a public place and basically take it over?
Unless its a guide dog they should not even be in food areas. I would not eat in any cafe where dogs are its unhygienic

Well yesterday i went for a roast with my dh. 2 large plates, 2 coffees, 2 glasses of water, 2 sets of side dishes with veg. Salt, pepper, cutlery pot, sugar bowl. Serviettes…. I hate how cluttered it gets

Poor you.

If a cafe allows dogs then someone taking their dogs there is doing nothing wrong. You can not rewrite rules in your head and insist everyone else follows them. That would make you very entitled.

Dogs are not allowed in food prep areas, but neither are you, because you are also unhygienic.

I’m currently sitting at a table for 4 on my own. There are 4 other tables free in this room that seat 3. A large table seating 6 that’s taken up by a family of 6. There are 3 tables in another room that fit up to 6 on each. All but one is empty.

Not the point. There is only one of you. Dogs should not be in cafes and you are inconsiderate. The fact that you are even asking suggests you have been getting looks?

Dogs are allowed in cafes that allow them.
Are you drunk?

This is the decision of the owner of the cafe, not you.

Places for humans to eat are not suitable for pets. Simple, not an opinion for cafe owners!!!

I'd say the two dogs are a bigger issue as they will deter many customers from coming into the cafe.

I think thats why she's getting dirty looks from other customers. Must be,to have to ask what we think!

I wouldn’t take them in to Costa!… I live in the Lakes. I was in a bike ride in the hills and stopped off at a cafe. I’m not going to leave them outside.

It’s very very normal for dogs to be in cafes in the Lakes

Glad I never intend to go there then, sounds gross!

Not a dog hater.Love dogs. Just not where I am eating!
The remark about casual selfishness is obviously right. And chippy too.

A dog on the floor at its owner's feet.. metres away from you. What is the problem?

Misguided owners think it's ok Look a the op though, sat at a 4 seater table in an empty cafe.

People of course go elsewhere to avoid the doghair, stepping over dogs, people letting dogs sit on chairs and feeding titbits form their plates. Do all that at home not in shared areas.

Cafe owners are starting to wake up and things are changing.

Likewise. A friend owns a dog friendly cafe. It has a wall featuring photos of dogs who have visited and a dog menu. She is also happy to have guests who don’t have dogs but if anyone complains about the dogs(Assuming that they aren’t misbehaving) then she’s blunt and makes it quite clear that she would rather have the owners and their dogs in than the person complaining.

I don’t think that they are changing as much as you’d like to think that they are and I suspect that you’ll be on here in 10 years time, still whining about dogs in cafes.

They are indeed changing as much as I like when there are 2 locally that don't allow dogs 🤗. I couldn't care less what happens nationally I'm sure everyone else able to fight their own battles.

If you must insist on taking your dogs to cafes get them off the seats, under the table out of the way and don't let them eat off your plate. You might have grim habits at home but make an effort when out.

You don’t care what happens nationally? That isn’t the impression you’ve given throughout this with regular calls for people to take action.

Personally I wouldn’t dream of letting my dogs eat off my plate whether at home or in a restaurant. And they are kept under the table, well my small dog is, the larger doesn’t accompany me to cafes. But I’ll continue to take him into cafes and pubs that welcome dogs.

Yeah you're right apologies, I do care what happens so I'll continue in my quest to encourage action!

Well done not taking your big dog. Someone on here takes their doberman, even if it's 'allowed' surely you agree that's a bit shit?

Not according to the other dog bashing thread currently running! Hardly anyone there is able to find a cafe that doesn’t allow dogs! 🤷‍♀️
