To take up a bigger table than needed in a cafe?

To try to use a bigger table in a cafe?

I know it’s not always possible, such as during busy times, and I would never ‘hog’ a larger table for myself.

But during quiet times… such as right now! I’m in a cafe on my own with 2 dogs and I’ve sat myself at a 4 seater table.

I actually hate 2 seater ones. They are just too small and I get claustrophobic with all the clutter of cutlery, condiments, sides of veg etc.

I like to spread out!

I haven't 'name called' anyone, I've said dogs should not be in cafes especially massive dobermans and considerate, responsible owners would not do it. This seems to upset I think because you know I'm right.

Therefore calling me inconsiderate and unreasonable, at least own it.

You’re not right, you’ve just got a different opinion to me, so want to name call.

So you’re dog sizeist now?… i actually find that owners of small dogs are generally worse as they are more inclined to allow their dog to sit on a chair or their lap.

Agreed, I’ve never seen a lurcher or Doberman sitting on a chair or on the owners lap at a cafe!

I might try it next time, just to piss people off

The roast was Sunday, the lone cafe visit Monday HTH.

Yes, I realise that. But saying that a table for two people gets crowded when both people have their plates, glasses, extra veg and whatever else isn't really relevant to the situation described in the OP - and the point of the thread - where there's a single person at a table for four. (Not that I think there's a problem with her sitting at a table for four while the cafe is quite empty.)

HTH.

I take it you never go in swimming pools, saunas... the sea? People are in there, genitals and all.

I am not bothered because seats are for sitting on. A lot of dog breeds do not touch anything with their rectum when they are sat down due to their anatomy.

Typical dog hater on here though. Obsessed with dog anuses.

Obsessed with dog anuses 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 because I think animals sat on bus seats is unhygienic?!!

Marchitectmummy · 01/04/2026 05:41

Yep unreasonable and with two dogs. That would stop me going in there, dogs in cafes are disgusting.

FrangipaniBlue · 01/04/2026 07:00

So you went in a cafe that was virtually empty, sat at a 4 table on your own and nobody batted an eyelid?

in the history of MN non-issues this is right up there……

'Dog sizeist' is that something you've just made up?

We have a fairly big dog so no I'm not <checks notes> ' dog sizeist'.

Taking her out soon for walkies then we'll grab a takeway coffee on the way back.

'Agreed, I’ve never seen a lurcher or Doberman sitting on a chair or on the owners lap at a cafe!'

We saw 3 huge bulldog types sat on chairs at a table as if they were customers! I complained they were told to put them under the table and the owner thanked us as she felt intimidated and pressured by some dog owners (I know! Hard to believe isn't it) and was grateful for some support to get the issue under control. Now banned so that was good.

Onleemoi · 01/04/2026 07:35

So great we all have options available to us. Cafes with dogs, cafes without dogs and takeaways if your particular cafe needs aren’t catered for.

Now isn’t that strange that you have seen large dogs on chairs….

Off to the beach, long walk and cafe fir coffee, nice china cups to drink from.

Not sure why you don’t even use one of the cafes you’ve convinced to ban dogs to sit down in? Seems odd?

But that’s why I did it. Because I don’t like a cluttered table, such as the day before.

Of course it’s made up!… I’m starting to wonder if you have a personality 🤔

Can you honestly tell me that you have never taken your dog inside publicly anywhere? How do you grab your takeaway coffee? Who goes in? Do you tie your dog up outside on the street, unsupervised left to trip people up and jump up at people walking past? Do you only buy take away coffee when there’s 2 of you? Why bother buying one at all?… it can be annoying holding coffee in one hand and a lead in the other.

Do you never go on holiday with your dog?

I genuinely don’t believe you have a dog

'Strange' that I've seen large dogs on chairs? Not strange so much as totally unacceptable and inconsiderate for other users.

'Odd' that we sometimes go to a cafe and sometimes grab a takeaway? It's just life isn't it. Sometimes we all have time to sit in cafes, sometimes not.

Neither of these things are strange or odd Grin

That's a bit unpleasant isn't it wondering 'if I have a personality' because I judge inconsiderate owners,. I do have a personality, I'm just a responsible owner.

I would never leave her tied up anywhere, nor would I have her running for 15km either as it isn't good for joints.

If we go on holiday she comes, we do self catering and guess what sit outside in beer gardens weather permitting. Or if we go abroad she stays with family who are considerate too.

Shall I type out a responsible owners guide, would that help?

Onleemoi · 01/04/2026 08:15

Dogs in beer gardens? Where children play? So irresponsible and selfish.

Your kids play in beer gardens? Or do you mean designated play areas which many have, where dogs arent allowed? If not they should be sat with you not running about.

Our dog sits next to us, on the lead. Perfectly normal in an outdoor area.

Buy people eat in beer gardens?…People are
more likely to let their dogs sit on benches in beer gardens… how is this different to sitting inside?

I also can’t believe you think taking a fit active dog out for 15km is irresponsible.

Kids run from their table to the designated play area. I’ve seen it plenty of times. A bored dog having kids running past them. Recipe for disaster. Much better to have the dog inside where permitted.

Quite. Kids should not be running about in beer gardens anymore than inside the pub, since there will still be people/staff walking around carrying trays of drinks and food.

Onleemoi · 01/04/2026 08:56

Tell their parents that.

No more unpleasant than saying people in cafes with dogs have no friends.

If you can’t take it, don’t dish it out.
