The clocks are going forward, not back, and it isn't happening until the weekend.

hazelberry · 26/03/2026 16:31

And even more moaning about kids and summer threads appear on MN.

DinoLil · 26/03/2026 16:31

They go forward, not back.

And if you have children and a garden, why can't they play out?

happynewyearhappynewyear · 26/03/2026 16:32

@Sonato- what time is it in your house?

Topseyt123 · 26/03/2026 16:32

Clocks will be going FORWARD and hour over this coming Saturday night/Sunday morning.

Perhaps you might have derailed your own thread with that. 🤣

Playing out is fine.

Footballs against the fence is antisocial. As are the screaming competitions some children seem to enjoy.

frozendaisy · 26/03/2026 16:33

Our teen plays basketball ball in the dark during winter in our garden

Nothing to do with clocks

Enigma54 · 26/03/2026 16:33

The clocks haven’t gone forward yet?
Footballs hitting a fence, is annoying, there’s no doubt about that.

WallaceinAnderland · 26/03/2026 16:33

Lol it hasn't happened yet 😂

Whosthetabbynow · 26/03/2026 16:44

@Sonato I dread it every year. Same old faces I haven’t had to see all winter doing the same old selfish shit. Bomp bomp bomp of the fucking ball. Kids running about screaming until all hours. Knocking on doors. Whacking my fence. Roll on October.

Whosthetabbynow · 26/03/2026 16:46

hazelberry · 26/03/2026 16:31

Unless you live amongst unparented ferals you have no idea. It’s not all unicorns and rainbows where we live

Spaghettea · 26/03/2026 16:49

I prefer the kids occasionally bashing my fence than the drug dealers loitering next to it.

VimesandhisCardboardBoots · 26/03/2026 16:50

Oh no, kids are playing outside, its the end of the world!

I've got a great big grassy green out the front of my house that the local kids play on from March till October-ish.

They sound like they're murdering each other half the time to be honest, but I love it, it's one of the sounds of summer.

Itsanewlife · 26/03/2026 16:50

Gosh so much negativity about kids playing outdoors! Ofcourse kids (and their parents) should be considerate of other people's property, privacy and comfort levels, but I think as a society we all benefit from the next generation doing something as wholesome as playing outdoors rather than staying indoors disappearing into the black hole of the internet!

p.s. to be fair I have no experience of unparented feral kids!

AgnesMcDoo · 26/03/2026 16:53

Children playing in a garden - what has the world come to? 🤬🤬🤬🤣

Easterbunnyishotandcross · 26/03/2026 16:53

I have found quite an adequate solution to arsehole neighbours of which I have both sides....
A Bluetooth speaker.. Not loud as obviously I don't want to be the arsehole ndn but just blocks out the incessant barking /dc screaming . Kept at the back door and easily switched on. Every time.
Honestly I have battled with misaphonia for decades.
It's been life changing.

Tarkadaaaahling · 26/03/2026 16:55

As per usual the misers are out in force.
Ever wonder why the birth rate in the UK is dropping? It's because among our aging grumpy population, children and families simply aren't welcome now.

Once upon a time families would have been the majority in most neighbourhoods and the sound of kids playing outdoors, yes with a bit of shrieking and laughter, would have just been the norm.
Now our demographics mean grumpy pensioners outnumber everyone else and their negative attitudes to children and families are all we hear.

I love the sound of children playing out - let's all send the kids out plenty over easter and reclaim our neighbourhoods as places for families!!

wearemorethanourboots · 26/03/2026 16:56

We moved a few months ago to get away from exactly that issue - smallish bare new-build gardens and next door's kid (plus the parents half the time) constantly smacking balls against the fence, or playing basketball on the paving for hours on end. It was so bad last year we barely used our garden apart from the fortnight they were on holiday. I swear it's left me with some kind of anxiety as a result, I heard someone kicking a ball the other day and my whole body tensed for a sec, it was so weird. Our new garden borders a main road with lots of traffic noise but it is positively heavenly in comparison, cannot wait to sit out and listen to the lorries zooming past!

ishouldbeoverit · 26/03/2026 16:58

Parents can't spend all their time at the park.

Children are entitled to play in their gardens. It's why parents buy family homes in family neighbourhoods.

Balls are going to hit fences sometimes. Such is life.

Spaghettea · 26/03/2026 16:58

Same vimes. I love the noise of the kids being out. Makes the estate feel loved.

I'm even <<gasp>> lovely to them when they ask for their ball back. You haven't lived until you've had a gang of nine year olds cheer and yell "thank you!!" back over a fence at you.

North American? I know their clocks shift a couple of weeks before the U.K.

In the U.K. it's ythe last Sunday in March and the last Sunday in October.

I actually do live somewhere that kids play outside a lot and manage to just be normal about it...
