See that doesn’t really bother me. It the stench of cannabis that seems to be everywhere that pisses me off! Selfish fucking fuckers!

Unfortunately, it's often the cannabis smokers who have the feral children who run around screaming at the top of their voice, when they're taking a break from relentlessly kicking a football against the garden fence. Wink

PeacockPalace · 26/03/2026 21:07

Let me guess, OP, you also call every single school holiday ‘half term’?

BringBackCatsEyes · 26/03/2026 21:11

hazelberry · 26/03/2026 16:31

And even more moaning about kids and summer threads appear on MN.

Repeated kicking of a ball against a garden fence that someone else shares is not OK.

FruAashild · 26/03/2026 21:11

Our next door neighbours have a little girl who likes a shriek when she's playing outside. I momentarily was grumpy about it then got nostalgic what it was like having children who liked to play outside (mine are all teens now so go out to the garden for parties only). It's only for a few years that it happens (possibly even less, the neighbours on the other side have grandchildren of a similar age and they don't shriek) and generally children playing in their gardens is a joyful noise.

If you don't want to hear your neighbour's normal garden usage then maybe move to a flat.

BringBackCatsEyes · 26/03/2026 21:12

NewZebra · 26/03/2026 20:13

Those moaning about kids actually playing outside are probably the same snobby cows who moan about kids being glued to screens.

Do you allow your children to kick a ball against a fence, knowing that someone's garden is on the other side?

BringBackCatsEyes · 26/03/2026 21:13

Dollymylove · 26/03/2026 18:49

I love the sound of children playing. I can faintly hear the noise of the 3 nearby primary schools at playtime. There are quite a few kids on my cul-de-sac and yes I sometimes hear them shouting but that is what kids do. Any miserable grinches who dont like it should go and live on the moon 🤣

OP is specifically complaining about a ball hitting a fence. That's not OK.

BringBackCatsEyes · 26/03/2026 21:15

WhatAPavalova · 26/03/2026 17:15

I also love to hear children outside. Even with a football.

Banging on your fence?

juldan · 26/03/2026 21:15

Whosthetabbynow · 26/03/2026 16:46

Unless you live amongst unparented ferals you have no idea. It’s not all unicorns and rainbows where we live

@Whosthetabbynow I personally would prefer living amongst the unparented ferals to living among the grown up ferals who think it is acceptable to be constantly blasting the fireworks for weeks and weeks every autumn.
They don’t even wait till the clocks go back and start in early October. Not sure if they have some rota going amongst themselves but it is almost daily till late November.
Then they take a little break and start over again around Christmas.
The summer months are serene in comparison even though there plenty of feral kids around as well.
At least their noise is predictable and does’t make me jump every fifteen minutes unlike when one of the ferals decides to release another banger.

NormasArse · 26/03/2026 21:17

AlcoholicAntibiotic · 26/03/2026 16:32

Playing out is fine.

Footballs against the fence is antisocial. As are the screaming competitions some children seem to enjoy.

Ohhh- the screamers! We had a next door neighbour’s child who screamed incessantly- not through distress- she was around 11 when it started. I asked her to stop because my very young (epileptic) daughter slept in the bedroom she was screaming under (she was at the front of our house- not in her garden).

She was on facebook about 15 years later, complaining about being bullied throughout her life. I did wonder whether the ‘bullying’ was people just asking her to stfu.

Userjal · 26/03/2026 21:18

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 26/03/2026 20:49

Why do people say this? I couldn’t care less if kids sit on screens all day - better than screaming the place down and annoying everyone

Because what a joyless existence that would be, they’d become an adult and wouldn’t have a clue about the real world, plus it’s not great health wise to be sat on your arse all day 🤷🏻‍♀️

There wouldn't be if there wasn't so much shit parenting around.

Because moving to a flat will result in WAAAAAAY less noise than living in a house. 🙄

How about people just parent their children properly, and spend time with them, instead of just shoving them outside to kick balls relentlessly against the garden fence, and shriek and scream blue murder?

Where are you that the clocks have gone back? I am in the UK and they go forward on Sunday.

A friend swears they've already gone forward. Not got to the bottom of why yet

I often think it is 5pm when it is actually 4pm. Only so I can have a gin and tonic though. 🤣

brunettemic · 26/03/2026 21:52

So we’re jumping from wildly over the hysteria around screen time to complaining kids playing in the garden, oh goody.

MNdrama · 26/03/2026 22:03

Sonato · 26/03/2026 16:30

Ha! Im that blinded by rage I obviously cant tell the time, did of course mean forward

Which hasn't even happened yet... you must be really angry

Spaghettea · 26/03/2026 16:58

Same vimes. I love the noise of the kids being out. Makes the estate feel loved.

I'm even <<gasp>> lovely to them when they ask for their ball back. You haven't lived until you've had a gang of nine year olds cheer and yell "thank you!!" back over a fence at you.

❤️

I think your 200 whump post is still there @OooPourUsACupLove Flowers

Ah, but at one point there were two of them!

It was a work of art, allowing everyone to experience both the blissful moment when the whumping stops, and the crashing despair when it starts again....

Lifeomars · 26/03/2026 22:17

I used to look forward to sunny days and lighter nights but now dread it as my hideous neighbours will soon be flinging their doors and windows open from 11am til late at night treating me to their endless shouting, screaming, tinny music played via a phone and endless visitors hammering on the front door. I have gone from loving Summer to dreading it. They do not work in the mainstream economy so are at home practically all the time so there is no respite from the hell

ChickpeaCauliflowerSalad · 26/03/2026 22:31

AnAudacityofinlaws · 26/03/2026 17:31

This. I don’t understand the screaming contests. There’s a group of about 6 girls aged around 7-9 or 10 who live nearby us but not in our cul de sac and their favourite evening occupation seems to be screaming. They do a sort of marching game in a crocodile going around the block where the leader screams, then the next girl, then the next and when all have individually screamed they all scream together and repeat.
Why? And why do their parents allow it?

Yeah we have a large group if slightly older kuds whi hold 'scream offs' all the time 'loudest, longest etc group screams and 'wave' screams. Not outside their iwn bloody houses. & kuck a ball of the metal garage doors in the row of garages.

kids playing - lovely

kids doing this - NOT lovely

Lucieintheskywithdiamonds · 26/03/2026 22:35

Parenting doesnt mean ensuring children are silent and indoors at all times.

No it means that you teach them that when they are outside they don’t scream and disturb everyone else

As per usual the misers are out in force.
Ever wonder why the birth rate in the UK is dropping? It's because among our aging grumpy population, children and families simply aren't welcome now.

Once upon a time families would have been the majority in most neighbourhoods and the sound of kids playing outdoors, yes with a bit of shrieking and laughter, would have just been the norm.
Now our demographics mean grumpy pensioners outnumber everyone else and their negative attitudes to children and families are all we hear.

I love the sound of children playing out - let's all send the kids out plenty over easter and reclaim our neighbourhoods as places for families!!

I'm not a pensioner but I don't want to listen to the constant thud of a fucking basketball every single day during summer. Nor do I want to listen to the people a few doors along shouting and swearing instead of talking like normal people.

Before I'm accused of wanting silence I don't. I live in a street with a mixture of ages and have many lovely neighbours, it's just unfortunate that some people don't consider others.

ishouldbeoverit · 26/03/2026 23:07

Whosthetabbynow · 26/03/2026 17:03

They bang on your door, tap on your window with lumps of wood, throw big stones into your patio windows and rip down neighbour’s fence panels? Thought not

That's very different than playing with balls in their gardens / with their friends. And that's not what the OP was about.
