I actually do live somewhere that kids play outside a lot and manage to just be normal about it...

They bang on your door, tap on your window with lumps of wood, throw big stones into your patio windows and rip down neighbour’s fence panels? Thought not

JehovasFitness · 26/03/2026 17:04

I’m going to move house so my kids have a garden to kick a football in, as opposed to the tiny paved yard we have now.

That is my contribution to parenting my children.

DeftGoldHedgehog · 26/03/2026 17:05

I'd say places with kids playing out in the street are definitely in the minority.

How unlucky if it annoys you. Like people going to pubs which apparently are full of annoying children.

Oh dear, what a shame, never mind.

If they are actually damaging property by throwing stones at windows and 'ripping down fences' that is obviously not ok. It is also nothing like the behaviour that OP described, which is just kicking a ball against a fence, and also isn't what you said in your first post ('Bomp bomp bomp of the fucking ball. Kids running about screaming until all hours. Knocking on doors. Whacking my fence.')

FrostyPalms · 26/03/2026 17:08

My kids are grown now but I still love the sound of kids playing outside in the evenings. It makes me very happy that they are doing that rather than gaming or being on social media.

I don't like the clocks going forward (remember, OP: Spring forward, Fall back) because then it's still dark when I get up in the morning.

365RubyRed · 26/03/2026 17:10

I love it when the clocks go forward! Summer is on the way. I am lucky to live in a friendly community, where the sound of children playing is a joy, not a curse.

JackandVictor · 26/03/2026 17:12

Next door's sun is always banging the football off the fence. Luckily I don't go in the garden much otherwise it would drive me crazy... That said, at least their son is outside And it's their fence so if it breaks they'll fix it 🤣

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 26/03/2026 17:13

I don’t mind kids playing out or even footballs/ basketballs etc

I do mind the clocks going forward though! Permanent jet lag til October - it’s not the fecking time and it makes those of us with a delayed circadian rhythm feel even worse than normal.

WhatAPavalova · 26/03/2026 17:15

I also love to hear children outside. Even with a football.

XDownwiththissortofthingX · 26/03/2026 17:16

We need to reintroduce wolves and bears

Playing out is fine.

Footballs against the fence is antisocial. As are the screaming competitions some children seem to enjoy.

This. I don’t understand the screaming contests. There’s a group of about 6 girls aged around 7-9 or 10 who live nearby us but not in our cul de sac and their favourite evening occupation seems to be screaming. They do a sort of marching game in a crocodile going around the block where the leader screams, then the next girl, then the next and when all have individually screamed they all scream together and repeat.
Why? And why do their parents allow it?

I just came from that thread. Send them all to borstal full time. They should be not seen nor heard.

HelenaWilson · 26/03/2026 17:39

just kicking a ball against a fence

'Just' kicking a ball against a fence damages it. If it's your kids doing it, I hope you're going to pay for it.

BunnyLake · 26/03/2026 17:44

I can’t wait for the clocks to change but I am very lucky that my neighbours are all seniors, no kids around my little enclave, despite having three schools in walking distance 🙏🏼

haribooboo · 26/03/2026 17:48

The constant banging of a ball against a fence or wall is enough to do anyone's head in. We live by a school so I'm well used to kid noise, but I wouldn't want to live next door to kids that did that.

OneFootAfterTheOther · 26/03/2026 17:52

Can’t get excited about hearing children playing outside. We live next-door to a recreation ground. The noise of children playing doesn’t in any way bother me. Though I did once asked some lads to move their speaker because their taste in music was driving me crackers.

Now parents shouting at children playing out side aka football match - that annoys me.

Bored Journo?

The clocks go forward and it’s not until Sunday, so it’s amazing you’re experiencing this in the future.

And even more moaning about kids and summer threads appear on MN.

Quite a lot of people on a parenting site seem to despise children...

Are you outside the UK, OP? It's forward they are going here, and not until Sunday.

There is a board for Aussie & NZ Mumsnetters if you want to discuss clocks going back!
