Neighbour has put their rubbish in my bin

Me and my neighbours all put our bins on the corner of the cul de sac for collection. Bin day is today and I went to put something in last minute before they collect and one of my neighbours has put a big bag of rubbish in my bin. I'm a bit annoyed tbh, wouldnt you ask first? I also dont know whats in this big bag that they are disposing of in my name. I wouldnt have minded if they were struggling for space and asked me but I think its cheeky to just do it.

Do you really give a shit? Genuinely?

sunsetsites · 18/03/2026 12:37

Your bin was on the street and the rubbish was literally about to be collected, I don’t think it’s really a big deal.

ThatIsABigSon · 18/03/2026 12:37

Could you not fit in whatever you were putting in your bin? That's when I'd be annoyed. I wouldn't care otherwise.

Itsafactitsactual · 18/03/2026 12:37

Go and talk to her (nicely though, yes?)

TenderChicken · 18/03/2026 12:37

I can't imagine getting mad about this. I doubt there's a dead body in there.

Yes. Its cheeky. I would have definitely at least sent a quick message. I've got two new neighbours so I think its one of them. Never had any problems before. I hope they dont intend on doing this every week!!

I'd ask if my neighbour was obviously at home otherwise I just add to their bin if there is space.

My neighbours do the same.

Unless there isn't room for you to add your extra stuff then its really not something worth getting worked up about

I dont know who it is although I have my suspicions of two households.

I was at home. And they all have my number. Quick knock on the door or quick text. Its just basic courtesy!

We do that all the time in our neighbourhood .Four bins placed at the end of the street and if there is any space left it's used up by any of the four that need it . Why would it be a problem?

Naws · 18/03/2026 12:40

Just before collection I wouldn't expect them to ask me, no.

I had to laugh at 'disposing of in your name' though. Like all the rubbish doesn't get mixed up and crushed in the lorry 🤣

FunMustard · 18/03/2026 12:40

Yabu. It's a bin. That was being collected and emptied within hours.

Well talk to both of them then (in a nice, non accusatory way)

foulksmills · 18/03/2026 12:42

I don't know if it works differently where you are but I get charged extra if my rubbish goes over a certain weight. So I would potentially be annoyed, yes, I might end up paying for someone else's rubbish!

Naws · 18/03/2026 12:43

"Excuse me. Can you message me or knock on my door to ask if I'll allow you to put a rubbish bag in my bin, that's just about to be emptied anyway? Cheers."

Very embarrassing for you, but I guess that's what you're going to have to say to the neighbours.

Purplecatshopaholic · 18/03/2026 12:43

Not to ask is rude. We have a neighbours what’s app group and would send a quick message round asking if anyone has room in their bin. To do it without asking is cheeky imo.

I'm sure the OP wouldn't drip feed this if it is the case.

Buttercream101 · 18/03/2026 12:44

OP if this is your biggest problem you must have a wonderful quiet life.

Get a grip. It's a bin and it was already out. It's not a recurring issue - put your rubbish in someone else's bin if needed. Sorted.

Yes same here and they also won't collect it if its too heavy. Which leaves me with another 2 weeks of no black bin collections.

Oh...

cupfinalchaos · 18/03/2026 12:44

I’d have asked first.

LittleCrumblyBiscuit · 18/03/2026 12:45

Take it back out and put yours in.

I thought that was a common thing, its been the case for everywhere I've lived and I've lived in lots of different places in the UK.

Never heard of this or lived anywhere where it was the case and have lived all over the UK. As this is the case you're actually not being unreasonable but without this context you would sound like a petty nightmare neighbour.

Growlybear83 · 18/03/2026 12:46

I would have just taken the bag out and put it on the pavement
