America will never regain the credibility they have lost

AIBU to believe that come what may America has lost all credibility in the world and even if they eventually unseat the current regime nobody will trust them ever again, or at the very least for a very, very long time indeed.

Think about it like this, if you want (if you don’t want to, no worries; this is just how I think about it).

Are there things in your country that people are angry at anyone particular about? A certain person or political party or someone who did something fucked up, and half the country is still angry 25 years later (obviously, this could be lots of very different things, depending on your country).

But… if people will stay mad at their own countrymen for doing so much less a quarter of a century ago, how much longer will they be angry at a foreign country that acted so much worse?

I would expect the American democracy will be extinct in 50 years or less; either Trump or someone like him will declare a monarchy that starts with him and extends to Barron (have you noticed all the stories coming out now that it’s his 20th birthday, painting him as a successful businessman and “crypto genius” already?), or there will be civil war.

but again does Barron Trump.have any ability to pull that off. He is even more lacking in charisma than JD. He is whatever level is below a sweaty sock !
His parents are seriously deluded in their estimation of his abilities and importance to the average person.

You won't read of inhabitant of Butt Fuck Missouri realising that they have seen a drop in the number of tourists. And when they hear of Libtard destinations suffering, they are probably glad they voted MAGA.

What about Florida though? Votes red but its economy is heavily reliant upon tourists.

StrawberryElephants · 20/03/2026 16:29

Of course they will. Look at Germany!

If JDV is a sweaty sock, Barron is more like skid-marked Y-fronts: once pristine and white, if only appealing to a small minority, but now tainted and grossing everyone out.

Alexandra2001 · 20/03/2026 17:12

It takes years to build a reputation, days to trash it.

The USA wont be considered an ally again for years to come, its all too risky.

Trump now calling other NATO countries "Cowards" for not helping clean up his mess.

I also think a big loser from all this will be the Israelis, antisemitism is already rife, should a recession bite, they will also get the blame, especially if they carry on this pointless war.

We do trust it.
If he says something is good, we stay miles away from it.
If he says something is bad, we jump to embrace it.
If he tells us to send ships, we stay home.
If he tells us to stay home, we most definitively turn up to have a good nose around, and likely leave someone behind, in case....
If he says soon, we translate it to months or years... we are still calibrating this parameter.
If he says we won= no idea, but surely massive bombings shall happen tomorrow
If he says ceasefire agreed, take cover because that means imminent fire

And so on and on...

With some bits, we are still translating, as it seems a bit random at times, but we are getting there. We need good old decoders.

SerendipityJane · 20/03/2026 17:32

It seems that Israel doesn't give a shit about Jews worldwide. In the same way Trump gives no shits for Americans abroad.

I don’t know what measure you are using that you can look at Donald Trump and think “wisdom” is something he has in any significant quantity.
Who can you possibly be comparing him to??

By his own words, he is incomparable.

I'm shocked at how it's exposed the appalling flaw in their system - that someone obviously deranged let alone criminal can stay President for any length of time!

Look how easily and swiftly we have PM's ousted without being anywhere close to being as bad as Trump!

Thank fuck we know that whoever becomes PM isn't necessarily in office for the duration!

franklymydearscarlett · 20/03/2026 21:18

Codyrhodesisaheel · 18/03/2026 09:44

Look at Germany and Japan. Enemies in WW2 and now respected members of the international community.

But I think that's the point @Duffyuip. It's taken, what? 50-60 years to get to that point for Germany and Japan? Even before Russia invaded Ukraine, everyone side-eyed them because of the Cold War in the 1960s.

I'm only 41, but even in my lifetime, I would say it's only in the last 20 years that the overwhelming rhetoric of "Germany = bad guys" has disappeared.

Yes, the US will eventually recover from this. But this isn't going to be a quick fix. This is going to be decades of goodwill to come back from this. It's not going to be possible for a change in president = we all love america again. Certainly Canada and Greenland will never trust them again.

This is mad. Germany were the bad guys until 20 years ago, so you mean until around 2005?

That is absolutely untrue. Germany (west) established a democratic state pretty quickly after the war and has been a member of NATO since 1955!

Japan was occupied by the US until 1955 and also adopted a democratic constitution and has been a member of the UN since 1955.

Both were allies to the west during the Cold War, Korean War etc.

public option may have taken longer but had certainly turned around well before you were born!

Good thread OP.

I don’t think that poster means they were actual ‘bad guys’ but rather that Fawlty Towers style, ‘don’t mention the war’ stuff was still lingering towards the end of the century.

This, I’m 49 and can’t remember either Germany or Japan being “the bad guys” on my life time. My mum disliked the Japanese because of something that happened to a neighbour in the POW camps. But that’s the only negative thing I can remember anyone saying about either country

Sartre · 21/03/2026 07:46

They will with new leadership, provided it isn’t Vance or similar. It’s a shame with Vance because he’s highly intelligent and made some valid points 10 years ago in Hillbilly Elegy.

FunnyOrca · 21/03/2026 07:48

I do find his “Make America Great Again” slogan pretty ironic, as if he didn’t single handedly destroy their international reputation.

Even if there were anti-American sentiments during the Obama era, people weren’t protesting in the UK as his plane landed.

EverythingGolden · 21/03/2026 07:49

Vance is clearly trying to position himself so as not to be tarred with the Trump brush but it’s a difficult position to be in, because he might get tarred anyway.

Not sure he is popular enough to ever win his own vote. We should watch out for Tucker Carlson.

Anthony Scarramucci said when folk ask him who he thinks Trump wants to replace him he says Gavin Newsom. Which is probably right because the chief narcissist doesn’t want anyone to take his MAGA mantle who might do better. Unless maybe his own family who would be an extension of himself.

I'm in my 70s so my Dad was in the RAF during the War. He was always insistent that 'the Germans' weren't bad people the Nazis were the bad people. My parents were heavily involved with their town twinning with a German town in the 70s and 80s and my Dad bought a Japanese car in the 70s. Maybe they were more liberal minded than many but they weren't alone.

Neither does Trump give a shit about those at home. Pretty much same for Netanyahu frankly.
