Will i lose my leg

i’ve had a bit of a fall down couple of steps. It’s literally gone all black round my ankle.

Yes I went to a surgery nearby and they checked it out. It’s really much improved today. Didn’t need a support there is just some bruising. Did 20 lengths of the pool which helped and will do some more swimming before dinner. Feeling much more positive about it. Hoping that in a couple of days it will be back to normal. I have a lovely beach nearby but it’s down a steep hill. I’ll give it a couple of days before going there.

Can I add to this - I did the exact same thing a couple of years ago whilst abroad- fell down some steep steps in flip flops - and hit my knee very hard - horrendous swelling, passed out in the hotel restaurant after I'd though I could make it of dinner - only to find out my leg ballooned to double the size.
My leg did go black - had an xray - was 'just' ligament damage.
Had to elevate my leg for the rest of the holiday - so was stuck in a beaut hotel in my room with just netflix on phone.

Accidents happen and I can understand why you worried - it makes it a lot worse when you are not at home.

A bit of a latest update on this.
Stepped back down 2 steps on stairs accidentally 2 weeks ago. Ended up in ambulance to hospital. Waiting on my own for ambulance 4 hours in agony. Got operation with 3 ankle bones broken and operation to piece them together with plates and screws.
Ankle has always been very delicate since a sports injury many years ago.
Anyway I am now on my own at home with some technical aids. They didn’t think they could fix it but operation was much more successful that expected. I am counting my blessings. And I will be massively careful in future.

Latest pic of foot. I am non weight bearing, on my own, for at least 3 months. If anyone wants to get any advice in similar situation I can definitely advise.

I reread this thread. This time I did have severe dislocation as well as 3 broken bones. The left one was shattered to smithereens. Ankle was, as I say, already very compromised. I am hoping that the full plates and screws in it will make it stronger. But looking back at this thread I am quite worried as I now have very little pain. It was agony when it happened and for the few days until I had the operation but very little pain afterwards.

I don’t want to be so dramatic though. I think it is painfree because of a very well executed and successful operation. I feel I can move the foot well within the constrains of the cast. I am going to count my blessings. Initially they thought they couldn’t fix it successfully. I am very lucky.

I think you're right about the pain going because it's been properly set. I broke my ankle quite badly a few years ago, it was quite spectacularly painful. However, once it had been set, the swelling had died down and it was protected by a cast, it was relatively pain-free.
