i’ve had a bit of a fall down couple of steps. It’s literally gone all black round my ankle.

Just from bruising?

gtamum · 05/03/2026 22:52

Are you on the aperol spritz? Is that what caused the fall? Get an early night and see how it is in the morning. Maybe see a doctor as well

I will hobble over to the medical centre tomorrow. Thank god for insurance.

Go now. They will have 24 hour medical assistance. You don't want it to swell overnight.

TheRealLillyAllenVerifiedAccount · 05/03/2026 22:53

Not a dr but if it's a result of an injury and you can walk on it, then I'd guess that you'll be OK.

Probably best to get it seen to quickly though as you've obviously hurt it.

Get a bloody taxi to the hospital, FFS. And maybe sober up

lol…. I did try send pics. I’ve literally gotten blackness all round my ankle. I had a friend lost her leg with this. I can walk but not very far. I am in Canary Islands and not home. I have insurance but i’d have to walk to get to doctor. I will try send pics again.

The fact you can walk probably means that it's not broken, so at least that's good. Get an xray if you can, just to rule that out anyway then rest, ice, raise your foot, paracetamol or/and ibuprofen. If it swells too severely or feel any numbness, go to the hospital.

And.. stop drinking! ;-) Hope feel better soon OP, sounds nasty and very sore.

saltinesandcoffeecups · 05/03/2026 22:55

Are your toesies pink and warm? (If that’s the color they normally are). If yes it’s highly unlikely you will lose your leg…however you still need medical attention

If the ankle is broken it's not out of the realms of possibility she could lose her foot, even if blood supply is currently OK.

Medical attention needed ASAP, like everyone else has said, op.

I googled and found this:

"Yes, an injured ankle or foot from falling down steps will likely turn black, blue, or purple due to blood vessels rupturing under the skin. This bruising, often accompanied by swelling, indicates tissue, ligament, or bone damage. The discoloration may appear immediately or develop over several days. ".

No alcohol was involved! Very steep steps and flip flops.

Never mind your manky ankle photos, get medical attention. It could be a bad sprain which may mean the ankle needs support, time to recover and possibly physio, or it may be broken. See the ooo GP and get it x-rayed.

I was not drinking. It happened 2 days ago after breakfast. Very steep steps i missed step on 2 steps from bottom wearing stupid shoes. Fell from there down. My ankles are vulnerable anyway from previous squash injuries. They got me lots of ice and that helped. Tonight I’ve blackness all around my ankle. I’m not sure why people assume I’m drunk. Anyway. I think it’ll be fine.

Can you feel a pulse in the foot? Outside of ankle or between first and second toe? Ice, ice, ice to contain swelling. Elevate as well. Urgent care as soon as possible. I’ve done loads of pitch side first aid. As long as blood flow is fine and no break that compressed major arteries you’ll be ok.

IdentityCris · 05/03/2026 23:15

Whereabouts are you, given that you need insurance for medical treatment?

RobertaFirmino · 05/03/2026 23:15

I've got that Dropkick Murphys song going round in my head now...

Rhubarb24 · 05/03/2026 23:18

Was your friend's foot black from bruising or from ischaemia, necrosis/gangrene? Did they have diabetes and/or poor circulation and/or peripheral neuropathy, or similar?

It's unlikely that you will lose your foot unless it's dislocated and you don't seek medical attention, but you haven't mentioned any dislocation.

canisquaeso · 05/03/2026 23:19

Why are you typing away here instead of going to the nearest hospital?

Mansionscoldandgrey · 05/03/2026 23:20

FaceEatingLeopard · 05/03/2026 22:30

Yes. Every time anyone twists their ankle it's off with the whole leg. Standard medical practice I'm afraid.

🤣🤣🤣

LucyLoo1972 · 05/03/2026 23:21

I think you have health anxiety

redfairy · 05/03/2026 23:21

Go get it Xrayed. Being able to walk is indication of it not being fractured. I hobbled round on a sore leg following a fall for 4 days last October before finding out it was an ankle fracture. Bruising can look horrific so no wonder you're alarmed

People assume.yiure drunk because youve been walking around on an ankle.you think might be broken for two days and you still.vant be bothered to get a taxi to a hospital, even though you dramatically think you might lose you leg.

You certainly sound like youve been drinking
Actually even more worrying if you haven't

Changednameagain999 · 05/03/2026 23:25

Some of you are so nice. And some so awful. Such is the world. I think I’ll be grand. Dark bruises are all around my ankle. I can walk on it so it’s not broken. I did have a broken ankle recently so i know the difference. In a few days i can even run hopefully. It’s alarming just now. My friend did lose her leg to a freak accident so that kind of preys on my mind. I’ll be grand though.

Second this advice.

You definitely want to make sure it’s not fractured before flying anywhere.

Pussygaloregalapagos · 05/03/2026 23:28

Maybe tape an AirTag to it now so that if you do lose it… you might be able to track it down. Good luck. T&Ps
