i’ve had a bit of a fall down couple of steps. It’s literally gone all black round my ankle.

People assume.youre drunk because youre going on about how you might lose your leg from a sprained ankle sustained 2 days ago and are hanging on till tomw to seek medical help!

If youre seriously worried about losing a leg in light of the above, you're either sozzled or this is a joke thread.

90sTrifle · 06/03/2026 01:23

I think your leg is safe, but does your insurance cover lost marbles?

Mumandcarer80 · 06/03/2026 01:48

My daughters went like that once. She was refusing to walk on it. She was in hospital anyway for cluster seizures. But when it swollen the next day I asked for another xray I didn’t think they had xrayed the right part of her foot. She had only come out of a boot for an ankle fracture on her other ankle a week before. She was refusing to walk on it. Thankfully it wasn’t broken it was a crush injury from how she fell on it.

ImDoneOnceAndForAll2 · 06/03/2026 03:03

You should not take Iburofen after an injury like this

You should go to the hospital

You have no pain? Can you feel a pulse?

IwishIcouldconfess · 06/03/2026 04:25

Gingernaut · 06/03/2026 00:26

Please don't overdose on ibuprofen

Go to A&E or call 111 to see if they can get you an OOH apt

She's in Tennerife!

Some of you are so nice. And some so awful. Such is the world. I think I’ll be grand. Dark bruises are all around my ankle. I can walk on it so it’s not broken. I did have a broken ankle recently so i know the difference. In a few days i can even run hopefully. It’s alarming just now. My friend did lose her leg to a freak accident so that kind of preys on my mind. I’ll be grand though.

I walked round om broken ankle for a week as GP said not broken xray said otherwise. Go to hospital. I have also strained same ankle that went black that felt much worse than the break. Go to hospital.

MashThePatriarchy · 06/03/2026 04:46

Sounds nasty, poor you OP
Go to the healthcare centre.
Leaving an injury untreated can lead to long term damage.
I hope it feels better soon.

HoppingPavlova · 06/03/2026 04:56

I’m not sure why people assume I’m drunk

Because your behaviour is not normal. You seem to think you are in real danger of having to have your leg amputated. So, rather than seeking medical review, by a qualified medical professional, you come onto the internet to ask everyone what they think. Then, when people tell you to go to a medical clinic, and again as you think you are in real danger of having to have your leg amputated, you announce you may go tomorrow. None of that is normal at all. People are looking for causes of your abnormal behaviour and have jumped to the assumption that it must be due to alcohol. Hope that clarifies it for you.

I will be honest. It has turned very badly black and swollen this evening. However, i am here on my own. It is not painful. I don’t want to bother anyone here. I am going to take an ibruprofen and will put loads of ibuprofen gel on it and i will report back in morning. Night. Xx

For pity's sake. The fact that you cab walk on an injured limb is not evidence that it isn't fractured. You don't know what is going on in there. Could be a hairline fracture, could be a chip, could be a ligament. Get to a doctor, take a taxi there. Get it x-rayed. Ask them to do a brain scan whilst you're there.

She's in Tennerife!

Assuming the OP has travel insurance and a GHIC card, she should go and be seen at the local medical centre. Spain has very good medical facilities.

Keep an eye on your toes, if they start to go blue do not hobble to the medical centre call an ambulance.

Oh and you don't know if it is not broken, you know it doesn't feel like last time. There are several bones you can break.

You also need to get it checked out before you fly home.

Mulledjuice · 06/03/2026 06:04

Changednameagain999 · 05/03/2026 23:46

I think it’s just a massively bad bruise right round my ankle.

You've gone from "will I lose my leg?"to "I think it'll be fine".

Stop pissing about - get a cab to the medical centre, get it checked out.

You cant rule out a break just because you can walk on it.
Yes you could lose a foot as a result of an ankle injury it it's not treated.

GelfBride · 06/03/2026 06:14

Changednameagain999 · 05/03/2026 23:11

I was not drinking. It happened 2 days ago after breakfast. Very steep steps i missed step on 2 steps from bottom wearing stupid shoes. Fell from there down. My ankles are vulnerable anyway from previous squash injuries. They got me lots of ice and that helped. Tonight I’ve blackness all around my ankle. I’m not sure why people assume I’m drunk. Anyway. I think it’ll be fine.

You have left it two days??? Why? If you fear losing a foot or leg, getting an injury that you just ignore is crazy.

Are you diabetic? Was the friend that had an amputation diabetic?

PrincessofWells · 06/03/2026 06:27

Op and for anyone else who doesn't realise - get a GHIC. It's free and entitles you to free health care in any EU country whilst on holiday.

EleanorReally · 06/03/2026 06:30

you may have a small fracture

Relaxd · 06/03/2026 06:41

It is quite possible to walk on a fracture. It’s black and painful, get it checked. Walking on it may worsen your outcomes.

Pricelessadvice · 06/03/2026 06:46

To compromise the blood flow to the foot, you generally need to have compressed the main artery to the foot. It’s mostly a break with severe dislocation that does this. If you are hobbling about, albeit painfully, the blood flow is still getting there.
I only know because I very nearly did lose my foot with a bad tib/fib break and dislocation. My foot was on sideways to my leg and the pulse couldn’t be found.
It was an emergency ambulance and surgery job and I was very lucky to keep the foot. I have a lot of hardware in the leg now 😁

I had broken an ankle two times previously and walked on it. I definitely couldn’t walk when I nearly lost my foot!

Londonrach1 · 06/03/2026 07:01

Get to a&e today op. Fingers crossed it's ok and you can enjoy the rest of your holiday x

BlimeyOReillyO · 06/03/2026 07:03

You won’t lose your leg if you’re careful and don’t leave it anywhere it can easily be picked up.

Perhaps pit it in your handbag for safe keeping?

CurtsyFriends · 06/03/2026 07:44

I twisted my ankle years ago and had some impressive bruising and swelling from it that took a good 18 months to go down.

Oddly after the first day there was no pain at all. It looked awful but I could walk about without feeling any pain or limping.

Hopefully yours is just a bad sprain but you should get it check in case. I had an xray to make sure mine wasn’t broken.

Fingeronthebutton · 06/03/2026 08:16

A classic illustration of why/ how our A&E departments are in the state they are 🤦🏼‍♀️
Yes, I am aware that op is not in the uk but her reaction would have been the same.

Comeinsideforacupoftea · 06/03/2026 08:16

Give over attention seeking to strangers who can do nothing to help you and go to the hospital if you're that worried. Don't people have even basic common sense any more?!

FaceEatingLeopard · 05/03/2026 22:30

Yes. Every time anyone twists their ankle it's off with the whole leg. Standard medical practice I'm afraid.

Oh brilliant!

NobodysChildNow · 06/03/2026 08:35

Hope you are feeling better today!

I broke my fibula two years ago and for a number of reasons couldn’t have a cast for a whole week. The bruise and swelling was both hideous and fascinating! I was quite sad when they put the cast on I wouldn’t get to see it again, but sure enough it was still bruised when they took it off six weeks later.
