Don't apply your standards to anyone else. You only show yourself to be a violent and aggressive person by making statements like that.

Exactly if I lived next door to a genocidal theocracy that kept exporting hatred and killing, I would be sending them messages of "be kind" and how "love conquers hate".

I would invite them to come to live with me, to show them that I welcome diversity in my household and that in no way am I racist. I would also allow them to eat my food to virtual signal my values of tolerance.

But make no mistake if they ever actually used violence towards me or killed a family member then I would send them a very strongly worded letter indeed and maybe even impose sanctions such as not letting them eat the Coco Pops for a week.

Whilst i agree on the hollowing out of defence, though the same also applies to all our public services too, i think by the mid 2000s, we had gone far enough but the cuts have continued, at least until 2024/25... its quite shocking

...we simply don't have enough ships, we have to patrol the North Sea with Russian incursions, the near North Atlantic, monitor shadow fleet movements....

... where do we magic up a ship or 3? the supplies, the fuel, the crews, the means to re arm, perhaps for many months? the ship that will relive Dragon?

We have the means to defend Cyprus with planes and our Allies ie the French, as we protected their Aircraft Carrier recently when they didn't have enough support.

We have optimised Trident over everything else but as we can all see, Nuclear alone just isn't enough.... but i can hear the cries from the 'right of "No more tax rises" when and it is when, Reeves comes back for more tax to fund Defence, the budget needs to double to 120bn and quickly too.

The type 26 and type 31 frigates each have a ten year build time. I think a single type 26 will come online in 2028. But. All of the old ships will need to be retired so we won’t end up with more hulls in the water until the late 2030’s

this is well worth watching and shows how many we have how old they are and how fast we can build more

long story short it’s going to be decades

I agree comrade Polanski 👊

There is no plan for what happens when the bombing stops. *

There may well be chaos as different, heavily armed, factions slug it out for dominance. At the same time the public infrastructure will have been wiped out.
Leading to a humanitarian crisis, which leads to a refugee crisis.

The US won't feel the impact of a refugee crisis but hey it's happy enough to piss around with tariffs if we don't bend the knee.

  • I read they are going to arm the Iranian Kurds (via Iraqi Kurds) - of course the Iranian Kurds have distinct aims which may or may not coincide with democracy in the country as a whole. They certainly arent happy about Pahlavi given their history.

Except that unlike the Iranians, the us has not targeted civilian infrastructure.

Notonthestairs · 05/03/2026 08:38

Power networks have been hit.
There are existing water shortages - Tehran was running water cuts last year.

Notonthestairs · 05/03/2026 08:39

And still no plan for what happens after the bombing stops.

rainingsnoring · 05/03/2026 08:41

SingleSexSpacesInSchools · 05/03/2026 07:39

So - you DONT think Iran is (was) a genocidal theocracy who exported hate and killing?

where exactly have you been the last thirty years?

Try to read what I have written instead of making things up.

Except that unlike the Iranians, the us has not targeted civilian infrastructure.

They've already hit a school and a hospital. Those are pretty 'civilian' targets. The Israelis have constantly hit civilian targets in Gaza and deliberately targeted and murdered civilians too. If you are going to judge the Iranians, you need to apply the same standards to the US/Isarel too.

The US clearly has no strategy or plan. DJT was hoping this would be over in a few days. He's worried about his mid terms already.

It's usually considered impolite to speak of Israel like that,

they MIGHT have been hit and they CERTAINLY were not targeted.

entirely unlike the Iranian targeting which absolutely included civilian targets and infrastructure.

there is a clear and obvious difference.

I’m no fan of Israel it has plenty of blood on its hands but it’s not a Theocracy and it does not export the revolution, unlike Iran.

The plan is regime change by one of several methods.

  • someone from inside the regime takes control and offers acceptable terms to USA
  • a popular uprising takes control. Hard after Iran killed 30,000 of them
  • Kurdish rebels invade from the Iraqi border (expedited by US attacks on revolutionary guard infrastructure in western Iran).
  • last resort, limited ground forces.

I mean. This is in the news. All the time. This is the plan.

For exactly this reason. Believe it or not the US does not want to appear to have blown up a school it makes no strategic sense at all. Nor do they want to punish Iranians. They want to remove the regime.

a destroyed country is not what they want. Not at all. The country has to be able to function. So no power has been hit. No water.

Poor phrasing on my part.

the intended outcome is regime change leading to no nuclear threat and no funding to terrorist groups.

the likely methods of regime change is my list.

the catalyst is destroying the regimes leadership and military assets.

SingleSexSpacesInSchools · 05/03/2026 09:01

No, they have said they are investigating.

The US doesn't have a consistent approach regarding whether or not they care about regime change.

Israel perhaps doesnt care either way as long as there is enough chaos to take Iran out of their persistent sponsorship of terrorism.

Neither will have to deal with the fallout of what happens internally.
