..of asylum seekers..
On the news. Are we supposed to be impressed? They are just being shuffled elsewhere, aren't they?

Ooh there's that overused word again. Racists

Yes, racists. There are quite a lot of them these days, and they are despicable.

I don't know why you think having a baby here is significant. If the baby's parents were not legally settled in the UK at the time of its birth, the baby wouldn't be entitled to British nationality and they would have no automatic right to stay here for life. So I'm not sure what your point is.

As for paying taxes, I'm quite happy to pay more into the system, but only on the condition that not a penny of my taxes goes to supporting any racists.

Well when reform get voted at the next election just remember you supported the chaotic and overcrowded country we now live in.
Immigration does not matter. Wasted taxes does not matter and massive government debt and the huge interest we are paying does not matter.
I hope you have your Nigel Farage flag on standby. This is what you are obviously wanting to happen.

I spoke to an Indian man on a building site 2 months ago. He and his girlfriend moved over 2 years ago. Within 18 months she had a baby.
Is this a miracle that they had a child so quickly? Nope. They are now here for life.
Close the borders to everyone.
People wanting to support immigration and migration should pay increased taxes until this situation is stopped. People should also be allowed to opt out of paying taxes until British nationals get the same rights including housing.

How terrible. Coming over here and working on a building site. The horror...

Are they going around causing crime and ruckus here?

Albanians that were once the highest amount of people on boats now have large criminal gangs in the UK, drugs, weapons, people smuggling, prostitution to name a few. People don't mention those, just the ones from Iran etc...

And having a baby - isn’t Reform planning to pay people to become parents?

Bloody immigrants, coming over here and contributing to society.

Nah, they will get in because people have fallen for the lies spun by Farage and the Conservatives. That 'it's all immigrants fault', while the government trashed our country. It's an old trick, it's been done before. Easier to blame the immigrants (which by the way were brought in huge huge numbers under the conservatives) than the political party in charge.

Hoodwinked.

The point surely is a deterrent?

Housing, benefits etc is a lure!

You know most of them arent living it up, right?

The complete opposite in fact.

The stupidity and gullibility are mind blowing

EarthlyNightshade · 26/02/2026 18:47

There is no way to claim asylum here without entering the country.
That's something else I would support, allowing people to seek asylum without taking the dangerous crossing first.

Arent labour introducing safe routes? Where's that up to does anyone know?

You’re right. Most just laze about in 4 star hotels with free laptops and free iPhones and complain the free food and free accommodation isn’t good enough.

Tricket · 26/02/2026 21:00

Newname71 · 26/02/2026 20:51

Asylum seekers aren’t here illegally. They’re here waiting for a decision on whether they can stay or not.
IMO the biggest issue is the rate at which their applications are processed. Speed it up, grant them asylum or send them home!

Send all of them home?

😂. We already have 9 million people who can do that job.
Another house gone.
Another family for the uk government to provide education and health care for despite the current over crowding.

The outrage was supposed to be all about them being housed in "luxury" hotels and now they're being moved to old Army bases, you got what you asked for.

However, numbers of asylum seekers with initial claims pending has reduced from 125,000 to about 64,000 from 2024 to 2025. So no, they're not just being shuffled, their cases are being heard more quickly too.

They are being shuffled into an appeals backlog - the appeals backlog was 70,000 in September.

They are being housed for free, and eating for free and getting free stuff from charities.
That is living it up when some homeless people are living in cars.

No, I don't want Reform in government but I accept that, in a democracy, people who are stupid and/or racist still have the right to vote.

I also accept that, if a far right party is able to successfully manipulate enough of those stupid and/or racist people into believing that immigrants are the cause of all their problems, then we will probably end up with a far right government that will make life much worse for everyone, including the idiots who voted them in.

It's very sad, but ultimately, you have to leave people to face the consequences of their own poor decisions. Best case scenario is that they will learn something and not make the same mistakes again. Worst case scenario? Well, let's not go there right now.

I am lucky enough to have an escape route, but I do feel terribly sorry for those who don't vote for far right parties and won't be able to get out.

However basic they are getting food and shelter, medical and dental care, pocket money, amenities etc which is more than they would get in other countries , even though some say other countries are more generous. We know they’re not living a lavish life style. It’s still better than the way some have to live in the U.K.

Nincompoo · 26/02/2026 21:04

Of course.

It’s like when A&E tell you the waiting time is only 90 minutes when what they mean is that they’ll ask you your name after 90 minutes and then make you wait for ten hours in a corridor.

Just a hunch but maybe if people were a little more honest and stopped destroying their documents, lying about where they came from and pretending to be bearded 12 year olds, maybe, just maybe, there wouldn’t be such a big backlog.

That could be said for anyone. Anyone British, anyone who comes to the UK at all, even on holiday or a student, or a working visa.

Then you get the wonderful immigrants who have helped save lives. The man on the Cambridge train last year for example.

Do you not get it? It's humans. Humans from everywhere have the ability to commit crime. If you want it just to be British criminals then nobody enters the UK at all, at any time for any reason. Unreasonable, no?

We have enough scumbags that are born in the UK that commit terrible crimes so why add to it?
It’s not sustainable the UK isn’t increasing in size yet more keep arriving illegally, hotel then a HMO free of charge indefinitely while people born here struggle to get on the property ladder.

The UK hasn’t got the infrastructure to cope with more and more people, everywhere is crammed and quality of life is poorer as a result. If you have a DD like I do then I’m terrified for her future with the state of the UK as it is and it’s only going to get worse.

Hahaha I live in one of the most run down economically deprived northern seaside towns. I may be many things, but ‘rich middle class’ I ain’t.

The only difference between me and you is I can apply critical thinking and see through the scaremongering lies told by Robinson, Farage etc.

Do you not leave the house?
The country is at breaking point. Even just getting in a car for 5 minutes would tell you that.

So you routinely do checks on your new neighbours, do you?

No, but employers and the Police can!
