..of asylum seekers..
On the news. Are we supposed to be impressed? They are just being shuffled elsewhere, aren't they?

Since 1980 the ECHR has ruled on just 29 immigration cases - and only overturned 16 of them.

But you’re thinking that deporting an added migrant every 3 or so years is worth ripping up all UK citizens’ rights as well?

Or are you just spouting right wing media rhetoric without checking?

They’ve only heard so few cases because governments are abiding by their rules: Rules that many believe to be too generous to immigrants and too restrictive of national governments wishing to deport unwanted foreign nationals.

Swiftie1878 · 28/02/2026 13:38

Once they are processed, they either are returned to their own country or they are free to work and support themselves.
Most, almost certainly, will be returned, as most, almost certainly, are illegal economic migrants and not genuinely in peril.

We need to get them processed, and quickly.

Just reject all the claims and return them to their home country.

Figures say that most asylum seekers do gain asylum and very few are returned so they have to be housed. Processing them quickly will not make any difference overall, just that government is delaying the inevitable.

75% are granted - so 25% should fall for removal - when I was at school that wasn’t a majority.

No, if there are people genuinely fleeing peril, then we must support them and give them leave to stay at least until it’s safe for them to return home. There’s a lot going on in the world right now, lots of conflicts and hardship, and we mustn’t lose our humanity.
But the key is to flush all of that out, quickly.
Process their claims, now.
Having people waiting months and years to find out if they can stay is inhumane and costing us a bloody fortune.

Those are historic figures. Those arriving for the last 5 years or so are a different kettle of fish. That’s why we need to get them processed.

They get 28 days after acceptance to leave where they are, find their own housing and sort out their own income - no one does it for them.

Well they’re mainly not different and I’m not sure why you think they are - top countries currently include Eritrea, Sudan and they’re pretty terrible so same reasons as 2000 from Iraq, Yugoslavia. If you’re thinking of Albanians that’s been pretty well resolved.

To September 25 figures are 42% initial grant - appeals are taking longer than they should but to September 25 (probably reviewing 2024 decisions) 42% were allowed - so we are still looking at around 70% grant rate for those in the last year or 2.

They can declare themselves homeless and get help with housing but as the housing stock is low it's going to be difficult and increasingly so.

So you’d like different rules around right to life, right not to be tortured etc for immigrants as opposed to nationals?

@Swiftie1878
I wouldn't mind quite so much if it was women & children. It rarely is. :-(

That's what I thought.
Idiotic 🙄

You don’t think claiming whole nations of people are ‘Dickheads’ because of the country they were born in isn’t idiotic then? 🤣
Actually it’s more than just idiotic, it’s racist too. Fascism never wins, because you’re weak and scared. Love is more powerful than hate.

Hahaha, someone had just said you get dickheads in every country, no country has a monopoly on that. People who treat women, girls and gays worse than dogs though, well some countries do have a monopoly on that.
Love is more powerful than hate? Try to say that in some countries and see how far that gets you 😂

You said people are scared. People are only scared if they are unsafe. You agree citizens no longer feel safe. Why would that be?

You’re scared because of the media and propaganda you’re being fed by fascists. Terrible things do happen, but white men are the main culprits in the uk, yes brown and black men too but the majority are white and born here!

It's completely obvious some countries are worse than others.

That's why some countries have visa free travel to the UK. Because some can be trusted to stay here for a bit and then return. Some people can use the ETA, others need to apply for the visitor visa and need to prove their credibility as genuine tourists.

Still British nationals though. 89% in prison are born here.

Yes we understand this however the statement made was that all people from
these countries are dickheads - this is a racist statement. These people are leaving their countries as they don’t want to live somewhere under a regime or dictatorship or war zone.

If you look at the ethnicity data within these British nationals a clear story is told. And yes I'd expect a country prison population to make up mostly of its citizens. No need to add more criminal from abroad though.

Not all. But a much larger proportion. It's silly to say the risk profile for an Australian or German man visiting the UK is the same as an Afghanistani, Sudanese or Somalian man.

I didn’t say that. I was just pointing out why they don’t hear many immigration cases. You seemed to be suggesting they have little impact on immigration, when in fact the impact is massive.
