..of asylum seekers..
On the news. Are we supposed to be impressed? They are just being shuffled elsewhere, aren't they?

Do you not leave the house?
The country is at breaking point. Even just getting in a car for 5 minutes would tell you that.

Getting in a car and doing what exactly?

That maybe so, but it really isn't immigration that's caused it. There are plenty who'd like you to believe that , so they can keep getting rich and powerful on your insecurities, but it really isn't.

Is that you Nigel?
No, they won't. There are strict rules.

I find this whole thread absolutely depressing. We have welcomed refugees for 100s of years and I really hope we can continue.

Why do you think Councils contacting landlords, offering long term rent contracts for x2 or x3 price?
I personally know landlord who owns more than 10 properties. He received letter from Council with offer, however they couldn't explain him what they'll do with these properties. But instead £1700 for 3 beds (outside London) he was offered more than £3500.

Or, they will work as carers, nurses etc and contribute positively to society.

They are people.

No thanks. No one knows anything about them. There is already enough abuse that happens in supposed “care” facilities that comes to light every so often without having completely unvetted people working in them.

Cosmication · 26/02/2026 21:14

Don't know if this has been suggested but could they not be trained as volunteers by a partnership of the army and local government to go and fix all the pot holes and litter pick the countryside ? While waiting for their asylum claim to be processed. By doing this they could earn social credits which counts towards their asylum claim or steps into employment.

Cheese55 · 26/02/2026 21:15

Pebbles16 · 26/02/2026 18:09

Refugees and asylum seekers have the right to be here until their claim is processed because - you know - we are a nation that is committed to doing the bare minimum to comply with the UN.

What NEEDS to happen is that claims are processed more quickly.

There isn't really a way to speed it up. The home office here is dealing with their countries home office equivalent ( if they say where they are from). The home office equivalent is prob v poor quality and not that interested in having another young male back with no work for him. Even if this isn't the case, everything has to be checked triple times by legal who are also dealing with 100's of cases.

Yeah, let’s make sure that care home abuse stays British born and bred.

Nah, they will get in because people have fallen for the lies spun by Farage and the Conservatives. That 'it's all immigrants fault', while the government trashed our country. It's an old trick, it's been done before. Easier to blame the immigrants (which by the way were brought in huge huge numbers under the conservatives) than the political party in charge.

Hoodwinked.

We can see what’s around us and make our own minds up, thanks

However basic they are getting food and shelter, medical and dental care, pocket money, amenities etc which is more than they would get in other countries , even though some say other countries are more generous. We know they’re not living a lavish life style. It’s still better than the way some have to live in the U.K.

If you do not feed and house people while waiting for their claims to go through, and they are not allowed to work, then crime will go up. People will commit crime in order to survive.

That won’t happened. If you’re doing a job, you'd expect to be paid for it.

They would be paid for it, through housing and essentials and through earning credits that will count in their favour when applying for jobs. Surely volunteering is better than doing nothing and if there was a way they could make a positive contribution from the start I'm sure it would greatly improve community relations, plus also give them some dignity as well while they're unable to officially work.

Happyjoe · 26/02/2026 21:25

If we are a civilised country why bring in uncivilised people?

UK civilians should only be shot by law enforcement if they pose a clear threat. I don't know the whole story about what happened with ICE in Minnesota, but I'd never think to obstruct any member of law enforcement.

Urm. No.

Friend of mine was shot in the leg by ICE agents. He's a member of the press, with press written over his jacket.
A journalist from Australia was on camera and she was shot deliberately by ICE agents live on TV. She wasn't even facing the agent. Clearly no threat.
The man in Minnesota was already under ICE agents control, on the floor, no threat there and was shot dead.

As I said, the day we go down Trumps USA is the day the UK finally hits rock bottom. It's scary that people like yourself can justify these actions in any way, just to get 'rid' of immigrants.

Doubt if they think litter picking gives them dignity! Crop picking…perhaps!

No, but employers and the Police can!

And these employers and police share their findings with you and others, do they?

The point is, people having the vapours because they don't know who 'these people are' presupposes there's something dangerous about them when in reality they are no better or worse than than anyone else. They are as human as you and I.

Its a requirement to have a DBS to work in any type of care facility, how're you going to a police check on an asylum seeker?

Great list od assumptions there. So the person who came from India and his wife had a baby... you've just assumed is here illegally? And doesn't pay taxes? Ok... teeny bit of bias there I think
