..of asylum seekers..
On the news. Are we supposed to be impressed? They are just being shuffled elsewhere, aren't they?

That old thing! A lot who come here don’t speak any English, hence the need for interpreters, which U.K. spends millions on.

A lot? How many please? I presume you have some figures to hand for your statement.
And how many come because they have family, friends here? As I said, there are a few reasons why they come to the UK.

Tricket · 26/02/2026 20:36

Happyjoe · 26/02/2026 20:30

Yes we do. We live in a civilised country. I do not want the UK to become Trump's USA, shudder the thought. You want UK civilians to be shot in the street by overzealous untrained thugs with guns? I fucking don't.

Edited

If we are a civilised country why bring in uncivilised people?

UK civilians should only be shot by law enforcement if they pose a clear threat. I don't know the whole story about what happened with ICE in Minnesota, but I'd never think to obstruct any member of law enforcement.

Very kind of you to give me an English lesson. Although you seem to have missed the point of the thread. English comprehension not your strong point.

I'm well aware that it wasn't the point of the thread, but it was evident that you needed educating. I was merely doing my civic duty.

mollypuss1 · 26/02/2026 20:37

The one thing this thread has highlighted is that most people posting on one side of the argument are articulate with good spelling and grammar. The people posting on the other side of the argument not so much. I wonder why that is.

Allseeingallknowing · 26/02/2026 20:38

Eyesopenwideawake · 26/02/2026 20:36

I wonder if all of those people who say "we don't know anything about 'these people'" know anything about the people who live next door, or in the next street/village/town/city. Of course they don't, yet they don't fear and despise the unknown family three roads away, do they?

There are ways of finding out about people in the U.K., eg references, criminal and work records can be followed up.

Yellowshirt · 26/02/2026 20:38

Happyjoe · 26/02/2026 19:35

Nope. Labour suspended that a while ago. The family have to now apply through the normal visa route, which means someone has to earning a good wage before they can come over.

I spoke to an Indian man on a building site 2 months ago. He and his girlfriend moved over 2 years ago. Within 18 months she had a baby.
Is this a miracle that they had a child so quickly? Nope. They are now here for life.
Close the borders to everyone.
People wanting to support immigration and migration should pay increased taxes until this situation is stopped. People should also be allowed to opt out of paying taxes until British nationals get the same rights including housing.

Happyjoe · 26/02/2026 20:41

Netcurtainnelly · 26/02/2026 20:34

Spot on.
Lefties and supporters say it's not many of them commit crime
We don't want any of them too. We don't want them here
The ones that do won't come forward and offer them a home.

It's impossible to be fair of who will commit a crime when they've had no criminal record. Same as any person.

I don't think you'll find though that many people are against deportation of any asylum seeker/immigrant who goes on to commit a horrific crime be removed. The home office changed some rules last year to make the removal quicker and easier.

Because you're rich middle class with a house not struggling to afford to live every day so you don't see it as your problem?

I don't know why you think having a baby here is significant. If the baby's parents were not legally settled in the UK at the time of its birth, the baby wouldn't be entitled to British nationality and they would have no automatic right to stay here for life. So I'm not sure what your point is.

As for paying taxes, I'm quite happy to pay more into the system, but only on the condition that not a penny of my taxes goes to supporting any racists.

I know many who come on sham student visas, never study and just go join the building trade and work illegally.

Yes, those who will be useful to us and apply via legal routes

There aren’t any legal routes for asylum seekers.

By uncivilised do you mean black? If so, own it.

Did you object to the uncivilised people from Ukraine and Hong Kong entering the UK?

Hahaha I live in one of the most run down economically deprived northern seaside towns. I may be many things, but ‘rich middle class’ I ain’t.

The only difference between me and you is I can apply critical thinking and see through the scaremongering lies told by Robinson, Farage etc.

Children born in the UK are not an automatic British citizen because born in the UK. One of the parents must be British or settled (Indefinite leave to remain). I don't think can apply for settled status unless been here for about 5 years.

They aren’t illegal. They have the right to claim
asylum

If they arrived on boats they entered illegally. Not all have the right to claim asylum. Many claims get refused.

I think you might fine a majority of crime and ruckus (great word, BTW) in any society is committed by the natives; people like your neighbours or that family three roads down.

If you have statistics that prove otherwise please feel free to post a link.

That could be said for anyone. Anyone British, anyone who comes to the UK at all, even on holiday or a student, or a working visa.

Then you get the wonderful immigrants who have helped save lives. The man on the Cambridge train last year for example.

Do you not get it? It's humans. Humans from everywhere have the ability to commit crime. If you want it just to be British criminals then nobody enters the UK at all, at any time for any reason. Unreasonable, no?

Allseeingallknowing · 26/02/2026 17:56

Stay here until their claims are processed? If not in hotels, houses or barracks - where? Hundreds laying on the streets? No! Stop them coming illegally in the first place.

Asylum seekers aren’t here illegally. They’re here waiting for a decision on whether they can stay or not.
IMO the biggest issue is the rate at which their applications are processed. Speed it up, grant them asylum or send them home!
