On the news. Are we supposed to be impressed? They are just being shuffled elsewhere, aren't they?

They are not legal. Opposite of legal is illegal. Do you prefer the US term aliens.

I would prefer that you stop deliberately trying to dehumanise people, as per my previous post.

If English your first language, you will be aware that illegal is not a noun, and that you did not use the word correctly in your previous post.

You can refer to irregular migrants if you want to describe people who enter the country by irregular means. Or if you are referring to people who are seeking refuge in this country, you can refer to them as asylum seekers.

Describing people as "illegals" says more about you than it says about them.

people are so anti asylum seekers
yet proud of having jewish children rescued in the second world war

Maybe we weren’t worried about Jewish children harassing and raping women. Maybe we weren’t being faced with Jewish children who were refusing to accept British culture.
Maybe because they were children not men of fighting age. Because our men of fighting age were fighting to protect our way of life. Men of fighting age should be shipped back to do these same in their country.

This has been pointed out so many times on here that I'm starting to think that people are just shit stirring for the sake of it.

Undoubtedly. Or journalists/right wing party central looking for another angle.

It's all a bit tedious but empty cans rattle loudest.

LakieLady · 26/02/2026 19:05

Silvertulips · 26/02/2026 17:58

The point surely is a deterrent?

Housing, benefits etc is a lure!

Asylum seekers aren't entitled to benefits.

@Work9to5Starmer refers to people entering illegally.

Asylum seekers aren't entitled to benefits.

They think they are and if they are successful then they will be. Housing them in better accommodation than many of our own citizens is a lure.

And he should be ashamed of himself for feeding the beast 🙄

AppleDumplingWithCustard · 26/02/2026 19:08

Oh come on OP, be fair. Haven’t you heard, they’re all doctors and engineers.

I think that might be a first but yes he’s not opposed to a bit of disinformation.

EarthlyNightshade · 26/02/2026 18:22

How do they leech on the state? Those here illegally don't receive benefits.

Edited

They cost money for translators, medical care, food, shelter, taxis etc

LakieLady · 26/02/2026 19:16

MissingSockDetective · 26/02/2026 18:32

That money is a drop in the ocean, it sounds significant because the media and NF and Reform tell you it is. You are supposed to be against them and think they are to blame, and you clearly are and do.

Personally I'm proud to live in a country with people from all over the world and one that will provide shelter and a home to those most in need. I see it as a privilege that we are able to do that. I would want someone to do that for me and my family if the tables were turned.

Me too!

There's an active refugee support group where I live, and I've met several refugees as a result. Every one of them has been through appalling things; one, who is now a friend, had been imprisoned and tortured for two weeks. Understandably, she fled her country of origin almost as soon as she was released.

truffleruffle · 26/02/2026 19:17

If all the benefits are stopped we won’t have the problem. They won’t try to come over on the boats.
I’m all for legal immigration, I have worked closely with many doctors and nurses over the years , they’re valuable and contribute so much.
Britain won’t improve until the boats are stopped.

People. Where you’ve written ‘illegals’, it’s people.

Hiddenhouse · 26/02/2026 19:18

Work9to5 · 26/02/2026 17:50

If they claim asylum they're not illegal until their case is decided and refused

Edited

They are illegal immigrabts as they have entered the UK illegally without authorisation.

MrsBennetsPoorNervesAreBack · 26/02/2026 19:18

Allseeingallknowing · 26/02/2026 18:25

But they are receiving housing, food, medical care, money for clothing etc . It’s unsustainable.

Not if they are here illegally.

Eyesopenwideawake · 26/02/2026 19:18

Allseeingallknowing · 26/02/2026 18:16

Yes, those with skills needed in the U.K. are welcome. A lot of those arriving in dinghies, will be low skilled, not have qualifications and will leech on the state

How do you know?

’illegals’ don’t get housed and benefits as they are here illegally and are hardly going to rock up to the authorities abd give themselves away. Asylum is a legal status. Please learn the difference rather than be an ignorant racist.

Boxthree · 26/02/2026 19:20

The outrage was supposed to be all about them being housed in "luxury" hotels and now they're being moved to old Army bases, you got what you asked for.

However, numbers of asylum seekers with initial claims pending has reduced from 125,000 to about 64,000 from 2024 to 2025. So no, they're not just being shuffled, their cases are being heard more quickly too.

Gingerbeersallround · 26/02/2026 19:21

ChocolateCinderToffee · 26/02/2026 18:54

A human being cannot be 'illegal'.

The problem is not the terminology.

unlawful, illicit, prohibited, banned, criminal, and unauthorized aliens

Gingerbeersallround · 26/02/2026 19:23

LakieLady · 26/02/2026 19:05

Asylum seekers aren't entitled to benefits.

Are they arriving with cash and buying houses?

Allseeingallknowing · 26/02/2026 19:25

Eyesopenwideawake · 26/02/2026 19:18

How do you know?

Don’t think you are going to get many surgeons and other highly qualified people turning up on a boat!

I don’t think that’s what Labour meant when they pledged to ‘smash the gangs’. They didn’t sell in barracks pre GE.
