..of asylum seekers..
On the news. Are we supposed to be impressed? They are just being shuffled elsewhere, aren't they?

@mollypuss1 ha, in our industry vast amounts were the biggest shysters out there ( entertainment) and no I’m not anti semetic remotely , it’s simple fact - shits come in all ethnenticirirs , religions and skin colour - not just ones people choose to vilify

I am trying to be honest having lived there and explain why the figures look as they do - my BIL is ex CID and once told me in the UK that the figures for crime were around 78/22 - with roughly 10% ethnic population committing 22% of reported and solved crime. But and it’s a big but - many of those were also born here too and it’s not just Iraqis, Afghans etc, it’s black guys, Asians ( often fraud etc) - all are in those figures. One huge issue is people who come in legally - via holiday /short term visas etc - go on crime sprees over a short term and then bugger off - not just the UK, other places too - I’m a centre/centre left voter but I’m also quite hot on immigration and using the Danish methods - perfectly doable, but it takes consistent money and effort! I do think people looking for simplistic solutions will find there really aren’t any without ending up in a US type situation

The black population are massively overrepresented in London knife crime as well.

Is it? Any figures forthcoming?

Zennia · 27/02/2026 10:47

I'm curious where asylum seekers were housed in the past. Does anyone know? For example, during the 1970s, 80s, 90s. There must have been a fair few asylum seekers from former Yugoslav countries during the 1990s.

Are they also over represented in the poverty stats too? Crime and poverty generally go together

Low lifes and crime goes hand in hand. Please don't demonise decent people in poverty.

I didn't say justified. I pointed out the correlation. The causal link is well known

Saying that black communities are more violent without mentioning the economic factors is dishonest and racist

No, it isn’t.

What does the data from the Nordic nations (as I mentioned previously show)?

It's disingenuous to think everyone acts and behaves equally regardless of where they are from.

I believe another poster, who has lived in a Nordic nation, has tried to explain to you that it is not as black and white and that the raw data would have you believe. Poverty and desperation breeds crime.

I don’t believe everyone acts and behaves equally regardless of where they are from, hence why I try not to judge people solely on where they are from or the colour of their skin. Unlike you.

If you commit crime you are a lowlife irrespective of your colour.

Rough sleepers don't want a proper roof over their heads. Their problems are way more complex. They're reluctant to even use our night shelter because doing so will mean not drinking or using drugs while they're there.

It's desperately sad that they're in that state, but giving them a room in those hotels is not going to help.

Edited

I worked in homelessness prevention and resettlement for 10 years, and this is so true. There are people who will never be able to manage a tenancy without a lot of support, and funding for projects that support people to maintain a tenancy has been slashed to the bone.

That project I used to work on had 110 staff and they could work with clients for up to a year. Now, cuts mean it has fewer than 30 staff and they can only work with a client for 3 months. It's futile, they might as well have just have stopped it completely.

A single mother stealing milk to feed her baby because she can’t afford it is a ‘low life’?

The reasons behind why people commit crimes are a lot more nuanced than that.

It is because people make 'excuses' for bad behaviour we are in such a mess.

She can't afford it with all the benefits she's entitled to?

And then she also said how in the UK it's higher by ethnic groups as well.

Also how does poverty lead to an increase in sexual assault and rape? The Nordic data shows certain groups do these crimes more.

If you don't understand the causes of crime then how do you expect to stop it?

It's not so simple as they're scumbags

Simplistic solutions to complex problems do not work

I’m not sure how many I can fit in my 3 bed terrace.

It’s a ridiculous argument anyway, what has who lives in my house got to do with anything ?

You could fit a few. Bunk beds? You are happy for them to live next to other people houses...

Your caring approach towards crime isn't working. You are just giving them permission to commit more crime. We need to return to punishment.

So your response to simple solutions don't fix complex issues is to offer a simple solution...

And then you put words in my mouth?

You do actually. The refugees I know include a doctor and a biology professor.

Criminals should lose their rights not have a cosy chat and asked how they are feeling.
