Charles will have known about this and I doubt they'd have arrested him expected it to be going nowhere.
I may be proven wrong, but the queen is no longer around to protect him. My money is on Will and Charles completely throwing Andrew to the wolves. It's the only way the RF can come out of it without the spotlight being turned on them.
And let's be honest, in the unlikely event that Andrew gets a life sentence and goes to prison, will there be a single person in this country who'll feel sorry for him? I doubt even Sarah Ferguson will care outside of worrying that she might be next.

Makingadecision · 19/02/2026 10:53

I hope it’s not just a tick box exercise to “appease the masses” and it means they are seriously investigating and will take forward any evidence of criminality.
then I hope there’s a way to force him to testify in the US.

treeowl · 19/02/2026 10:54

There is no evidence that she gave him money for this pay off, and certainly no evidence for the sum of £12m

Is there evidence she didn’t?

sittingonabeach · 19/02/2026 10:55

Do you get a life sentence for insider dealing type crimes, because this is what he has been arrested for?

sittingonabeach · 19/02/2026 10:56

Many people are mistaken if they think this is anything to do with trafficked girls/women

YourAmplePlumPoster · 19/02/2026 10:57

Detained at His Majesty's Pleasure. Lol 😆

I dont think so, not in the UK, anyway.

Getting my knitting ready by the tumbrils.

(side question: what's the 'knitting by the tumbrils' reference about? : like getting the popcorn out, I get that, but knitting... tumbrils - I'm intrigued 🙂)

That's not how you look for evidence 😂😂

I bet the Americans are envious that heads are rolling here unlike the US where they are apparently immune.

Mme Defarge, A Tale of Two Cities. She sat knitting while watching the carts bringing people to the guillotine.

That’s not relevant because the fact is we don’t know…

Is there any evidence you didn't?

This has nothing to do with his sexual antics. This is his behaviour as a trade envoy.

I would love to see Andrew held responsible for his alleged sexual misconduct also. However, that will be harder for the UK to prove or it is outside of the UKs jurisdiction. Especially if the US isn't cooperating or sharing everything.
Misconduct in a public office is likely much easier to prove. Plus it has some overlap with the sexual stuff. Best case scenario, the investigation turns up more details on the sexual stuff as well. Worst case scenario he is investigated for the corruption/misconduct in a public office which is also a serious crime and carries a potentially hefty sentence.

It's a reference to the French Revolution. The aristos were transported to the guillotine in carts called tumbrils and peasant women sat by the guillotine with their knitting. Happy to oblige.

Of course there is no paperwork to show this, but how much do you think she was given by our Royal Family.
£500? More?

It was in the millions. It doesn't matter if it was £5million or £12 million. Do you think he had millions lying around? No. It was enough to make her go away so that QE2 could have a platinum jubilee with what he has done as history

Well... it's all come back to bite them on the arse hasn't it....

Exactly. It's an oft repeated claim, which I've not found any evidence of.
No-one knows who paid VG or how much.
It didn't help the poor woman in the end, whether money was paid or not.

I don't think people are mistaken.

We are women. We know there will be no justice for those girls, now women.

We're just happy to see his downfall, regardless of the reasons.

Aiming4Optimistic · 19/02/2026 11:01

@InterestedDad37I think it's a reference to people watching executions for entertainment during the French Revolution. Tumbril is the cart that carried prisoners to the guillotine.

Presumbly Virginia don’t actually settle as there was no evidence 🤷🏻‍♀️

We have no idea.
I think that if unsubstantied claims get repeated as fact, it can undermine the whole thing.
I'm glad he's been arrested and I hope he faces justice.
