I’d not seen any coverage of arrests elsewhere - think I saw a report of someone in the Middle East resigning because they are named in the files

KatyaKanani · 19/02/2026 11:04

simpsonthecat · 19/02/2026 11:03

Exactly!

I can only presume some posters cannot bear to think QE2 bears any responsibility in this.

Or perhaps just like verified facts rather than conspiracy theories, which don't help.

randomchap · 19/02/2026 11:04

Capone was jailed for tax evasion as that could be proven. His racketeering, violence, and murders all went unpunished.

I hope you're wrong, but I get it. My own first reaction after 'Hurray!' was 'PLEASE don't cock this up'

Same here. I just hope that all the paperwork's in order.

I wonder if they had to get a warrant and, if so, who authorised it?

My knowledge may be out of date, but they used to have be authorised by a magistrate or judge.

I think that's a good point.
At least there's action against AMW.

UncannyFanny · 19/02/2026 11:04

Personally I can’t see someone who has lied and lied and lied suddenly deciding to tell the truth now. He will either refuse to answer any questions or just lie and lie and lie some more. Just like he did on his BBC interview.

simpsonthecat · 19/02/2026 11:05

KatyaKanani · 19/02/2026 11:02

We have no idea.
I think that if unsubstantied claims get repeated as fact, it can undermine the whole thing.
I'm glad he's been arrested and I hope he faces justice.

OK. I'll call it £5million just for you!

It is obvious it was a huge amount and it's obvious QE2 contributed or paid it all. And me saying that doesn't undermine a single thing.

If you want no figures talked about or QE2 paying it, there are probably 500 news reports on this, you might need to contact them!

Perhaps, even he can see what's happening now? We can only hope.

The UK is NOT leading the way. European nations started arresting the men who whose identities were in the Epstein files.

This is too little - too late.

Andrew should have been charged with SA. He wasn’t.

The Police also need to investigate the murder of the Latvian woman whose body was found near Andrew’s mansion years ago.

I don't think you understand what is going on here.

Firstly, if there was evidence of SA, then they would arrest him. There is nothing in the public domain that suggests he is guilty of SA in the UK (Paying for sex is legal and commonplace in the UK. There has never been any suggestion of underage sex in the UK).

Secondly, he has been arrested for business dealings. This is not related to SA.

Aiming4Optimistic · 19/02/2026 11:06

I think misconduct as a trade envoy is a serious allegation and more than just a useful way to prosecute a person when they cannot be arrested for anything else.
If he did give away Britain's private information, when he was in a position of trust, that is a big deal.

Natsku · 19/02/2026 11:06

Although they're only arresting him for misconduct in public office now that doesn't mean other charges aren't coming later. Fingers crossed they do.

treeowl · 19/02/2026 11:06

@KatyaKanani would the BBC have printed the below?

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-60667111

Why would theTreasury say the below?

“A statement from the Treasury, in response to a Freedom of Information request, ruled out any public funding: "No public money has been used to pay legal or settlement fees."

Prince Andrew, Virginia Roberts and Ghislaine Maxwell in 2001

Prince Andrew pays settlement ending sex assault case

A US judge has signed off court papers concluding the court case brought by Virginia Giuffre.

Only a degree?

My Schadenfreudometer is off the scale!

Don't call anything for me. I'm just interested in facts.
I'm glad this odious man has been arrested and I hope he faces justice. I'm just sad VG isn't around to see the news today 💐

There is no evidence that she gave him money for this pay off, and certainly no evidence for the sum of £12m

Is there evidence she didn’t?

Is there evidence you didn't??

deadpan · 19/02/2026 11:07

Queue someone making a video of him being interviewed by AC12.
Trouble is, he'll just sit there with the most expensive lawyer Charlie can buy saying "No comment".

Are you saying it’s a conspiracy theory that Virginia received a settlement?!

The Royal Family aren’t know for being transparent when it comes to finances…

The £millions in hush money his late mother QE2 paid out didn't protect him then 🤔

When the Royals fess up as to how much the settlement was and where all the dosh came from, please let me know
As usual it is just smoke, mirrors and obfuscation

Watching the news, I'm so tempted to say "excellent" in a Mr Burns voice.
