Absolutely. If Mandelson isn’t arrested, the Labour government will face accusations of coverup. If there’s enough evidence against Andrew for him to be arrested, there must surely be enough for Mandy to be arrested too. He was actually a government minister at the time.

He’ll be arrested if and when the police and CPS agree there is a prosecutable case. These things sometimes take time. The government has no role in this. They don’t decide who gets arrested and when.
For clarity, I think he’s done a lot of very dodgy things and probably should (and will) be arrested - but there’s no benefit in moving before the evidence is solid and no grounds to blame the government either way.

Agreed, it wouldn’t even be up to the government whether Mandelson is arrested or not. I meant that they could be accused of coverup. Starmer is already on thin ice over the appointment of Mandelson as US Ambassador. The right wing press appear to find any excuse to put the blame on Starmer and the Labour government.

Police officers are often disrespectful with dark humour much in evidence. It can sound bad if you aren't used to it. It doesn't necessarily mean much. I've known officers say similar about senior officers, it's almost expected.

Mandelson has just been arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office. I wonder how this will turn out…
