Surely the best helmet design is one of your own face screaming in fear!

Or one depicting a hideously realistic head injury...?

I do think the BBC should show the full gold medal winning skating performance in a peak slot today. All I know about the chap who won is that he looks very humble with unruly hair

His teeth braces killed me 💔😍

I've just told dh that I'm inspired by the curling and am planning on reproducing it in the kitchen. This requires me to push a stone around and he can use a mop in front of it with the energy seen on TV.
He hasn't fallen for it.

I wonder if any of them do clean their kitchen floor with that energy.

sittingonabeach · 14/02/2026 15:55

I was looking up a hotel that runs many activities (similar but cheaper than Center Parcs) and they offer curling. Tempted!

My algorithms are resulting in many reels of people recreating curling in a variety of ways!

How do you even get into this sport?! I’d give it a go but no idea where you’d even try it! 😂

This!! How do you even discover you are good at it?
Is it a case of, "I crushed the slide in the playground, can I do that as an adult?".

My DH is a huge sports fan so I've been watching subjected to a few of the events. I like the ice skating and felt for the guy who fell twice during his routine

UK medalist have usually been steered in that direction from other sports. They have the right attributes so are spotted as potentially good sliders so they approached and asked if they want to give it ago. Presumably those who say nah I get sick on the tea cups ride stay in their original sport and don't get to go weeeeeee down an icy mountain side on a glorified tea tray.

This just came up on the BBC, talking about the 3 GB women who will be sliding tonight. For at least one of them it’s their first time at an Olympics.

Before they tried skeleton one was a long-jumper and another did circus skills. Which doesn’t really answer your question.

MrsKJones · 14/02/2026 19:07

Thanks @Februarysiceandsleet and @WarrenTofficier

I find it fascinating.

DH is mad on curling, or as he calls it "Bowles on ice".

I prefer the more artistic sports, like skating and in summer, the gymnastics

They mentioned yesterday that they're recruiting at the moment so if you fancy a new career you could give a whirl.

I'm old, slow, fat, feel the cold and get queasy on the gentalist of rides so I won't be rushing to give it a try.

likelysuspect · 14/02/2026 19:16

Is there a walking version like you get walking football

I might be up for that

If my sciatica doesnt play up

There was a bit on the BBC the other day where a youngish presenter had a go (after some basic training). Safe to say even the beginners first try was far from gentle. Obviously much slower than the real thing but still absolutely mental!

sittingonabeach · 14/02/2026 19:27

I was just saying to DH that I would probably be too slow jumping onto the tea tray when you have to swap your hand over on the handles and the tea tray would hurtle down the track without me (obviously my fat arse wouldn’t fit between the handles!)

Sadly I too am old, fat & feel the cold. Plus I have Vertigo, ME & Fibromyalgia so my GP probably wouldn't sign the medical release

Women’s Freeski big air on now! They ski down what looks like an almost vertical slope before hitting a smaller upward slope becoming airborne and doing acrobatics and some of them are doing it backwards !!
Winter Olympians really are fearless !!

EleanorReally · 14/02/2026 20:02

Thanks, like a bit of big air

i couldn’t see that his finger touched it - i reckon chemmy might be on the money that he did it to create chaos and stir players - although you could argue that could work for his team too - upsetting it I mean

That sounds plausible ! Bit silly though if it unsettled his teammates too.
Loving Chemmy and Lizzie on the commentary team!
Great to see John Hunt back too after everything he’s been through.
