Did someone not sadly die at the last Olympics warming up for this or luge? I am really loving Lizzie Yarnold’s chatting with claire Balding. I usually hate the filler bits but Lizzie (gold medalist, skeleton, 2014 and 2018) is AMAZING. Intelligent, insightful at the same time as being just like any other mum / late 30s lady. She’s awesome.

Yes I have loved Lizzy too! So helpful in her explanations!

Ex taekwondo and rugby. Who knew that would lead to Olympic gold!

He was speaking earlier - he submitted times for running and the computer churned out try tea trays riding

VaxMerstappen · 13/02/2026 21:08

Well, this country might not have much going for it right now, but turns out we are very good at sliding down icy slopes very quickly on tea trays. 😂

As someone said on Bluesky just now, we lead the world in precipitous decline 😄

MooseBeTimeForSnow · 13/02/2026 21:11

The one that’s gets me is ski moguls. My knees squeak just watching it. I can’t see how any of them dont need knee replacements once they retire!

@Ohwhatfuckeryitistoride in 2016 twin brothers were killed and six others injured when they trespassed on the bobsleigh track at the Calgary Olympic Park and collided with a locked gate.

TrickyD · 13/02/2026 21:11

Well done Matt! The commentator mentioned the GB Medals. More like Medal.

Here we call it the Skellington and have to shout that at the tv every time we hear Skeleton.

What about Christopher Dean? Still a long time, though...

Yes sorry, individual gold.

wizzler · 13/02/2026 21:12

Lizzie Yarnold has been really interesting to listen to. Also Chemmy .. I love learning about these sports ( from my sofa)

VaxMerstappen · 13/02/2026 21:15

On a slightly different note, I'm glad John Hunt got to commentate on this moment after what he's been through.

OhDear111 · 13/02/2026 21:15

@likelysuspect We’ve been hugely successful at it? Where have you been?

Single male

TheRuffleandthePearl · 13/02/2026 21:19

Wow they’ve got those medals out fast! Well done Matt!

OhDear111 · 13/02/2026 21:20

@VaxMerstappen Lizzie married her sled designer. I think he worked for McLaren. Far from a tea tray. They perfect the design in wind tunnels! The bob sleighs take a lot of engineering too.

DH and me were just saying we have this amazing athlete but never mentioned on Ski Sunday. Yes I know the word “ski” is in the title but trying to keep up with successful winter athletes should be part of the remit.

Applecharlotte2 · 13/02/2026 21:22

Ah love that he took hat off for National anthem 🥰🥰

Yeah there's a lot of technology in luge and skeleton. I think I'm right in remembering there's a lot of crossover between them and track cycling - skin suits, helmets, aerodynamics etc are applicable from one to another.

flightyfighter · 13/02/2026 21:25

It's certainly a bit hairy at times. I think the snowboarding race thingy was described as madcap antics or something like that. You're almost waiting for something awful to happen! What I like is the general camaraderie, sportsmanship/womanship...they seem to be happy for one another.
Don't the Aussies joke that the Brits are only good at sports where you can sit or lie down, ha ha. Suicidal tea trays are a doddle.

Applecharlotte2 · 13/02/2026 21:26

Ice skating now…

feels a bit of a come down

YellingAway · 13/02/2026 21:28

That was so exciting! Imagine being the 13th gold medal winner on Friday 13th! What an amazing achievement.

dontjustdontdoit · 13/02/2026 21:28

I remember years ago Jack Dee doing a bit about the skeleton/luge would be a sport you could do DEAD

I think of this a lot. Like people are shoved on and pushed down the slide.

I wont hear it, these are tea trays. I love it.

I would like to see one with a nice tabby cat design.

How do you even get into this sport?! I’d give it a go but no idea where you’d even try it! 😂

They are recruiting at the moment, it was mentioned during the event. Can't remember if it was Clare Balding or the man commentating who said it

I am a little surprised that more people haven't heard of the skeleton, Lizzie Yarnold who is with Clare Balding in the studio has won two Olympic golds being joined one year by another Brit winning the bronze

dapsnotplimsolls · 13/02/2026 21:36

Watching the figure skating now - this poor guy.

The French bloke who fell over?

I mean I would just walk off upset.

Ive just sustained an injury because I jumped when the Japanese bloke fell over and banged my hand on the shelf next to me

These winter olympics are very dangerous

So much falling over in this event 😢
