But...when was the last time there was an accident on olympic downhill suicide teatray riding? Fair enough, if there was it would be catastrophic at that speed, but maybe its actually the safest winter sport, just looks dramatic.Grin

90 mph too....that's faster than the motorway...head first 😱🫣 (second emoji is because I want to watch and equally can hardly bear to look!!)

ApolloandDaphne · 13/02/2026 20:13

I am hoping we are about to win our first gold on the icy, mental tea tray riding.

dapsnotplimsolls · 13/02/2026 20:16

I had a discussion the other day about which is better - head first or feet first. I think I'd rather see where I'm going!

edwinbear · 13/02/2026 20:22

I’ve never been so invested in suicide tea tray riding in my life.

Scramado · 13/02/2026 20:22

Did someone not sadly die at the last Olympics warming up for this or luge? I am really loving Lizzie Yarnold’s chatting with claire Balding. I usually hate the filler bits but Lizzie (gold medalist, skeleton, 2014 and 2018) is AMAZING. Intelligent, insightful at the same time as being just like any other mum / late 30s lady. She’s awesome.

VaxMerstappen · 13/02/2026 20:24

I do love how mental the Winter Olympics are. They make the Summer games look like a school sports day in comparison. 😂

I figure that it doesn't really matter which way you do it, get it wrong and you're going to be going feet first somewhere in the end.

I may be slightly biased, but I blame my big brother for that when I was five and he told me about it - and to have a go on the stairs as practice. Rotten git didn't bother mentioning anything about needing to steer around the bend in the stairs to avoid the solid brick wall.

I was only unconscious for about ten minutes, apparently. No harm done. But I don't think he ever forgave me for being grounded for the next month.

Not sure how to link it but if you’re on instagram look up lachy.macintyre an Australian comedian and has two hilarious posts comparing the summer and Winter Olympics 😂

sittingonabeach · 13/02/2026 20:33

@Scramado loving Lizzie too

I looked it up earlier - def been a death - although maybe bobsleigh - the person went off the track up in the air - think it was 2002

dapsnotplimsolls · 13/02/2026 20:39

One of the commentators has just said they're recruiting!

sittingonabeach · 13/02/2026 20:39

They are recruiting!

LittleGreenDuck · 13/02/2026 20:39

I think a Georgian athlete died in Whistler. Was that 2010? He went too high, flew off the track and hit a pole.

sittingonabeach · 13/02/2026 20:39

Who is going to volunteer? Well support you 😂

thenightsky · 13/02/2026 20:40

If you want to be considered for the next series of this suicidal tea tray event, please get in touch as we are recruiting now. Grin

TheRuffleandthePearl · 13/02/2026 20:40

BennyHenny · 13/02/2026 18:49

How do you even get into this sport?! I’d give it a go but no idea where you’d even try it! 😂

They just said on commentary that they are recruiting for skeleton for Olympics in 4 years Grin go for it!

DS is up for it! He plays rugby, it can’t be any more dangerous than that, can it…?

I'll do it. Never mind I'm 66 with 2 hip and 1 knee replacement, I was a fair sprinter back in the day...

There wa someone who died doing Skeleton but it was because a bob sleigh entered the track during training - the blades!

doesn't bear thinking about

Im amazed I havent seen it before, I love the winter olympics.

I think Ive seen it the other way up.

Don’t you remember Lizzy Yarnold winning Gold twice? She’s in the studio with Clare B.

LemonLymanDotCom · 13/02/2026 20:47

Uh oh, maybe I’m the nutter cos I keep watching thinking it looks like amazing fun. What a rush!

Bath University has a short skeleton course I think. They practice the most essential parts where they can pick up speed.

Emptyandsad · 13/02/2026 19:10

What's the difference between luge and skeleton?

Skeleton face first, lying down

Luge toes first, lying face up
