To regret not getting a robot vacuum sooner

Oh my days. What a game changer! Bought it on Wednesday and the joy of seeing him pootling about, vacuuming and mopping my floors while I get in with other things! I have three kids and I think I’ve vacuumed twice a day for the last 16 years. Hours of my life back. And it does a great job too. Am I alone in my new obsession?

I've had two and they both died after a couple of years. Never replaced the second one because overall they are so needy and whingey they aren't worth the bother.

JustGiveMeReason · 31/01/2026 19:48

But why ?

If you have vacuumed before you leave for work, wtf would you then vacuum when you return from work ? Confused
You've not even been there.

To be honest I think it’s just habit now 🤣
my husband dusts our house everyday 🤣🤣

Unicornsandprincesses · 31/01/2026 22:35

Mine mops too. Best thing I’ve ever bought.

Hillsmakeyoustrong · 31/01/2026 23:22

Bought mine in the Black Friday sale. Love Bob (Eufy) Best purchase ever. He manages the carpet and hardwood surfaces just fine, he does like to get under the coffee table and console where he can get stuck and I'm not sure why he insists so I don't send him off if I'm not in. I do clean alongside him though which means all surfaces get wiped down, kitchen cleaned, glass polished whilst the floors are done. I do still do a proper mop now and then but honestly it's brilliant day to day.

BambinaCucina · 31/01/2026 23:25

Genuinely one of the best things I've ever bought. Ours is very slow, but it's that very lack of speed which means that it picks up everything. I'd say it picks up more than my main hoover run over quickly.

Jimmyneutronsforehead · 31/01/2026 23:28

We've got 2 in use, but they're really old and really quite past their prime, but they've been invaluable.

We have a brand new one in our garage unopened because the kids have formed an emotional bond with our 2 geriatric robot vacuum cleaners. They've even stuck googly eyes on them and named them.

We did get a Dyson Eye when they first came out after having such wonderful luck with the 2 smaller ones, but I sent it back almost instantly as it was just terrible.

Crispynoodle · 31/01/2026 23:32

We love our eufy one and having read this might actually get another for upstairs

MaJoady · 31/01/2026 23:38

ShowmetheMapletree · 31/01/2026 16:18

Do they not get stuck/caught under furniture etc? I assumed they are more suited to a very open plan apartment, than a multi room house? Our is open plan in bits, but mixture of tiles and rugs. I always thought it wouldn't do a thorough job, and need emptied too often?

Edited

We have a Dreamer L10 and it goes under our sofas etc and around chair legs etc fine. It knows where the rugs/carpets are and lifts the mop pads up so they don't drag on the carpet. It also knows which threshold is a bit higher than the others and takes a run up at it. It also has a set of long bristles that stick out at an angle that is uses to flick dust out of the corners.

It also empties itself into a bigger dust bag in its base when it needs to and then will go back to cleaning if it hasn't finished. It also cleans it's mop pads periodically during mopping

The older ones were a bit rubbish, but they have improved so much.

Ringthebell26 · 01/02/2026 01:48

I upgraded in the big gun Eufy S1 about 2year ago. I think it’s normally £1500 but I got It in Black Friday for about £900. It’s great - washes and drys mop etc. lots of children, farm and pets so I think I’ll go crazy without it. I had a problem with mine about a year after I got it and Eufy replaced it no problem

I feel like people should talk about this more! The joy of seeing the kids dropping crumbs and sending the robot vacuum after them instead of knowing I’m going to have to wrestle Henry out of the cupboard…immense! We have the Riborock S10…it was only £169.99 so I wasn’t sure how good it would be, but no complaints. So so clever how it maps the rooms!

wow its not even expensive. my husband refused to have anything like this thinking it was too expensive

ChocolateCinderToffee · 31/01/2026 20:40

Do it. You lift everything liftable, leave it for 20 minutes, then move everything a bit and leave it for another half hour or so, so that it has had time to get behind everything.

Yeah see that's the thing, I could just vacuum the space myself in 10 minutes!

JudesBiggestFan · 01/02/2026 07:38

@TeenYearsAreBrutal he is named Mark Owen! Because I rediscovered my adoration of Mark Owen watching the take that documentary this week and told my husband I might have to leave him to pursue my original life goal of marrying mark. I do quite enjoy it when he tells me Mark’s in the bed room (yes, I am definitely having a mid life crisis!)

Our Derek is a Eufy and my best ever purchase. We have a white long haired Chihuahua and Derek keeps our dark coffee coloured oak floors immaculate. I do sometimes do the corners and around radiator pipes with a hand held but compared to the constant rowing over whose turn it was to sweep every morning that's minimal. We are now very tidy as a robot vac gets you in the habit of tidying up which isn't a bad thing. Derek copes with the little step up into the kitchen and goes from hard floors to carpets no bother his brush gets right into edges and under stuff I'd give up my washing machine before I'd give up Derek.

I’ve vacuumed twice a day for the last 16 years

Sorry but that's massive overkill. Unless you're liberally pouring crumbs on the floor and all through the house at every meal, once every few days is more than adequate, even with dogs or cats.

It is ok for other posters to have higher hygine standards than you!

We love ours, DS calls him Lenny 😂

Ours is called Alan

Finereally · 01/02/2026 08:36

Vacuuming twice a day? Your house must have been spotless with all beige carpets.

GiantTeddyIsTired · 01/02/2026 08:48

SnippySnappy · 31/01/2026 16:27

Which one do you have? Wondering about replacing my hoovering-only Roomba...

Sorry! Wandered off - Eufy X10.

Edit - to be fair about the edges, the issue is that whoever designed my kitchen is an idiot. I have stupid, intentionally uneven concrete slab tiles with massive grout lines, and all the kitchen cuboards have little legs with recesses between which the previous hoover could get in, but the new one is too tall for.

I should just figure out a way to fill them in TBH.

Yeah see that's the thing, I could just vacuum the space myself in 10 minutes!

You could also go for a bath, come back and its all done

Our house is clutter free so it works for me

CuriousRunner · 01/02/2026 08:58

I’ve been hovering over buying one. You guys tipped me closer. Just had a look on the John Lewis website. I don’t always buy from them, but they are my go to to see which brand they sell. My sister has an Eufy And it seems to be coming out top here as well. But John Lewis don’t sell them🤔🤔

Beachtastic · 01/02/2026 11:16

I love our robot, or at least I love what it does. I'm slightly terrified of it creeping around like a sinister little mini Dalek!!!!!!!! We set it to come on and do its thing while we're out...

Verytall · 01/02/2026 11:59

This thread has got me tempted I must admit - though the prices vary so much, from £150 to £1500! Can anyone tell me about why they vary so much, are the more expensive models genuinely worth it? I heard the early robovacs were very temperamental and I'd hate to splash out and find it was too awkward to use.

Why is the gray one of those so much more expensive than the white one? Which one do you have?

Thanks !

Genuinely no idea, they're identical! I have the black one which I bought because at the time of purchase, it was cheaper than the white one...

MyKindPoet · 01/02/2026 18:04

I've got a basic Eufy with mop and I love it. I've got 3 cats and it's great for clearing all the hair on my hardwood floor!
