To regret not getting a robot vacuum sooner

Oh my days. What a game changer! Bought it on Wednesday and the joy of seeing him pootling about, vacuuming and mopping my floors while I get in with other things! I have three kids and I think I’ve vacuumed twice a day for the last 16 years. Hours of my life back. And it does a great job too. Am I alone in my new obsession?

I don't agree about the pets - I have 2 long-haired cats and it's made a massive difference to the amount of cat hair floating arond, and given the amount of crap I empty out of the thing it's definitely picking up a lot more than little crumbs (I have a far from pristine house)

I have it mop once a day - and the water is always filthy - to the extent I've considered letting it run continuously to see how long it would take until the water was clean coming out.

Which one do you have? Wondering about replacing my hoovering-only Roomba...

I'm a weirdo who finds vacuuming really satisfying so would never get one - I'd also have panics about the cat vomiting on the floor and me coming home to it smeared all over the carpet 😂

What are the downsides, if any? What can’t it do? I have mainly carpet - downstairs is two reception rooms and a hallway and then unfortunately a step up to tiled dining room, kitchen, boot room and downstairs loo.

Doni help it up the step and it will just carry on? Will it end up on its back if it falls down the step?

We have a roborock qrevo and the downsides are that it's stupid and tries to kill itself 😂

It will get caught up on cables, even though we have its detection settings on sensitive.

The mop isn't that great honestly, not very impressive but it's ok.

The worst thing is that it's slow! Admittedly our house is pretty large but it takes forever!

(I'd be careful of the new Eufys though guys. They have ozone cleaners. Could be fine but it might not be and I'd rather not chance it)

Has anyone used a robot vacuum and mop on an LVT floor? I would love the idea of this but I’m worried the mop function will damage it.

Hi I have, and it has mopped & vacced my LVT kitchen, hallway and bathroom floors over 12 months now - no issues.
Also vacs the carpeted floors well.

It’s a roborock it goes back to its base to empty and clean itself, frequently.
I have a medium sized dog, and although her paws are wiped, the floor still gets dirty quickly from the muddy garden this time of the year. So not having to mop myself multiple times, is a game changer.

JudesBiggestFan · 31/01/2026 17:11

I was resistant for ages for lots of the reasons people have said…corners, getting stuck etc. I think you just have to be realistic though. I think I’ll still have to do a proper vac every couple of weeks…under sofas, behind doors, the stairs and cobwebs in corners etc. But for a basic, every day clean it is way more than adequate. I haven’t been as evangelical about anything since my air fryer! I think if you generally have a smaller household or particularly cluttered rooms it would be less of a game changer but for me it really does feel quite life changing!

Sorry but that's massive overkill. Unless you're liberally pouring crumbs on the floor and all through the house at every meal, once every few days is more than adequate, even with dogs or cats.

especially if you have a clever cat who's learned to switch it on himself

I might be being a bit daft, but I just don’t understand these. I don’t see how they would get into corners, under tables with a lot of chair legs, underneath things, etc. Rooms that have small steps or divides. When I vacuum, I lift the edge of my rugs and vacuum just underneath. Can’t see how a robot would do a good job of that. Also vacuuming doesn’t take long so I don’t consider it much of a timesaver either. For all these reasons I just don’t understand robot vacuums but since I haven’t tried one I guess I could be wrong.

DH does a weekly big vacuum and we use our Eufy in between .
I bloody love it
The amount of dust and bits it collects is astonishing -even when the floors and rugs look clean

I usually run mine when Im in the bath, rarely gets stuck as we keep it tidy and I just pull the dining chairs out

Lovely to come down to a clean house

Edit
I dont have steps so its not an issue

Sahara123 · 31/01/2026 17:24

I bought one but soon got rid of the damn thing. It seemed to wander around aimlessly missing bits, well, a lot to be honest. It ate any cables I hadn’t hid well enough, and got stuck under the sofa endlessly. Plus my cats were scared of it . It had to go !!

NutButterOnToast · 31/01/2026 17:33

Love mine.

I hate hoovering so it's great for a basic daily clean & then I do a proper going over now and then.

Just means crumbs and dirt never really build up. Wouldn't be without it now.

I was going to say this about the dust. My DH isn't convinced by it as there do always seem to be the odd bits left on the floor.
Bit when you empty it, the dust tray speaks for itself! It's always full, like you say even if the floors and carpets don't look that bad.

I have a Eufy and personally I think it's better on carpet than hard floors. But I have a handheld Dyson that I can easily do a quick whizz round with for the odd crumbs.

It's one of the best things I've bought, well worth the £160 I think I paid! Doesn't beat my dishwasher or ninja air fryer as favourite appliance though 😆

Lumirubin · 31/01/2026 17:33

I ordered one earlier today and this thread has made me excited I did! I've gone for an irobot rumba 505 that mops and vacs. The black one was £700 and the white was £350 so seem too good a bargain to miss!!

Can I ask which model do you have? as a cat fellow owner i’m looking into getting one too and looking for recommendations

Ooh! I googled and it seemed a lot of people had the same issues with theirs too. Drove me bonkers!

Interestingly we have an Ecovacs that's hoovers and mops and love it.

It would be best to have the dock and robot in one place to do one area, and move the dock to do the other area to do that area. If you get one which scans the area, you will then just have two maps for each area. The step shouldn’t be a problem as my robot (and I assume others) know where the here’s a step so won’t fall down. Don’t think helping the robot up the step would work. As others said, it defeats the object. I guess my suggestion of moving it does too, but it’s that or get two robots. It’s then a case of where to put it/them. Against a wall near a plug with a bit of space around preferably on a hard floor. It narrows the options down.

I wouldn’t be without mine though. Game changer. Wish I’d got one years ago!

We've got a cheap eufy and it's rubbish. Maybe our house is too cluttered but it gets stuck on stool bases, between dining chairs, on door thresholds etc. It doesn't pick up everything and often just blows crumbs around. It's spinning bits get tangled in the rug and my cat hates it. Not worth it in my opinion.

This is my experience too, I'm thinking of selling out Eufy as we just don't use it.

They arent miracle workers
If your house is cluttered it will get stuck
If you leave cables lying about it will eat them.

One very pleasing side effect is that DH is much more tidy as a result
If it gets stuck under things like the sofa you can get raisers so it zips under

HumberBridge2 · 31/01/2026 18:04

It not that my house is particularly cluttered, it just can't cope with the rug (or distances between rugs and wall, hearth etc), coffee table and chairs. We have a cordless vac now which is quicker and does a better job!

It must be the model
Mine negotiates stone kitchen floor, wooden floor , rugs, hearth, coffee table , sofa etc
Hall has a doormat etc
I do hook long curtains up though
My rugs have quite a deep pile and its fine
The diagonal lines in the rugs are particularly pleasing !

Notellinganyone · 31/01/2026 18:14

Totally disagree. Mine sucks up so much cat and dog fluff.

DollopOfFun · 31/01/2026 18:17

Our Eufy has been relegated to the upstairs, where it runs on max power twice a day in the bedrooms and bathroom.

We also have a Deebot now that vacs and mops the downstairs floors, again, twice a day. The tech of this one though is so much more advanced- it switches between stone tiles, wood, rugs, carpet, even the hearth tiles with ease. Empties and cleans itself.

I do get that robovacs can't do the full job- my friend's argument for not having one, is that they don't pull out the furniture to get underneath, and they can't get right in the corners. My argument FOR having one, is that even if i could vac/mop twice a day, I ain't got the time nor the inclination to be pulling out furniture to hoover underneath, nor am I getting right into the corners every time.

So for her, a robovac would make her house less clean. For me, they make it cleaner. I'm a lazy cow, no argument.

ElizabethsTailor · 31/01/2026 18:21

I love ours. They vary a huge amount for features and how smart they are though.

Our last one was a bottom of the range Eufy and we routinely had to rescue it when it got stuck. Still loved it though.

We upgraded to a mid-range Roborock and it does everything itself. It even has water change and a large hoover-bag in its base station so changes its own water and empties itself. It also has a little arm that comes out so it gets right into the corners when hoovering and mopping.

For this saying it’s only 10 minutes a day … that’s 60 hours over a year! And the reality for us was that with the robot hoover it gets done every day, without it it was more like once every 7-10 days.

I’m on the look out for an equivalent robot mower now. Any recommendations? Something solidly mid-range, so doesn’t need all the bells and whistles, but does a good job without too much human intervention.

Marble10 · 31/01/2026 18:34

i don’t have one, but you are selling it to me OP.
