To regret not getting a robot vacuum sooner

Oh my days. What a game changer! Bought it on Wednesday and the joy of seeing him pootling about, vacuuming and mopping my floors while I get in with other things! I have three kids and I think I’ve vacuumed twice a day for the last 16 years. Hours of my life back. And it does a great job too. Am I alone in my new obsession?

Hoovering is the one household job I don’t mind!

My shit one was ecovacs!

Ooh! I googled and it seemed a lot of people had the same issues with theirs too. Drove me bonkers!

MamaRoly · 31/01/2026 15:37

@Shoecamp you are probably right, the round hoover can't do corners, or move furniture or rugs to hoover behind. But with busy job, two kids and a cat I just find it so useful to have (even a) superficial hoover round every day helps keep on top of the house.

We've got the eufy x10 pro Omni. It vacs/mops and lifts itself up onto rugs. Its never got stuck in a corner and takes itself home for cleaning. The only PITA is clearing the floor beforehand- which would be the same for any robo vac. We have a dog bed, toys, cords and general things on the floor that we pick up before a clean. The dog also barks at eufy, so we tend to 'prep' the room when we are going out. Maybe if we used it daily, the dog would get used to it?

We also have a corded henry and very recently a uninell cordless vac. I use the uninell daily, but the robot one only about weekly.

I haven't got one, but must confess I thought about getting one purely to see if our cat would ride on it like they do on YouTube...

I got one recently, which I love, and was hoping the cats would hop on like the YouTube cats. But they have not attempted to climb on it even when it is docked. I am very disappointed in them

ThereAreOnlyShadesOfGrey · 31/01/2026 15:48

They’re vastly overrated.

They’re fine if you generally live in a pristine house, you can vac up a few crumbs here and there, but for the most part they push the dirt around until it’s in the corner where you can’t see it.

And they’re no good if you have pets. Or on carpets.

Mine is a eufy. I use it to sweep the dirt off the kitchen floor into a corner then I sweep it up. But I’d never buy another one.

Interestingly roomba have recently gone out of business.

Ive got a Neato it was amazing but theyve shut the app down so now its completely useless. Neato say its ok because I can still use it manually by pressing the button to start it but the whole thing for me was that I used the app to clean while I was out. Maybe ill be able to save up for a romba this year.

Is it easy to set up (with the vacuum and mop options). I want to treat myself to one later this year as I have an injury that causes me a lot of jip when hoovering (so it’s not really a luxury item as such), but I’m concerned I won’t be tech enough to get it started and working properly.

Neverends1 · 31/01/2026 15:52

I got an Eufy at Christmas and I love it! Its the most useful household member. We call him Nigel. I put off getting one for a while as it seemed pointless as I'd still have to hoover the stairs, corners etc. However hes fab! Its so satisfying just pressing a button on the app and off he goes.

I feel like people should talk about this more! The joy of seeing the kids dropping crumbs and sending the robot vacuum after them instead of knowing I’m going to have to wrestle Henry out of the cupboard…immense! We have the Riborock S10…it was only £169.99 so I wasn’t sure how good it would be, but no complaints. So so clever how it maps the rooms!

Well comparing to a Henry isn’t the same as comparing to other vacuum cleaners. They are very awkward.

Changedname9999 · 31/01/2026 15:57

I have 3 laresars that vacuum and mop. It’s relatively easy to setup your house so it can get underneath furniture and I just pull the table chairs out a bit when I set them off. Best things ever.

BunnyLake · 31/01/2026 15:57

I didn’t expect them to be so cheap with a mop function! I have seen one that is more like £1,699. I wonder how they differ?

ps they are fairly simple and don’t have maps. I set them off and they keep on going over and over the area for 4 hours or more.

I suspect ours would have been the same....

Thank you for this. I have thought about them but I have a tiny shark that I can whizz round with. Takes about 10 mins. My husband does a much more thorough clean every week with his vacuum cleaner.

VoltaireMittyDream · 31/01/2026 16:06

I’m stunned by how many people vacuum the entire house twice a day. 😳

I have pets and I hoover about once a week (if that), and things don’t ever get all that furry in the meantime.

I’d probably do it more if I had a robot, I think, but as pps have said, I can’t understand how a round hoover with no little fiddly suction attachments would get around chair legs and all the corners and nooks and crannies. I’d still have to do a proper hoover once a week, which is as much as I can be arsed hoovering anyway.

DinoLil · 31/01/2026 16:09

I regret giving my robot vacuum/mopper to my DS and DIL. I suspect DIL has probably sold it.

101trees · 31/01/2026 16:12

Why is the gray one of those so much more expensive than the white one? Which one do you have?

Thanks !

Laurabeee · 31/01/2026 16:15

Has anyone used a robot vacuum and mop on an LVT floor? I would love the idea of this but I’m worried the mop function will damage it.

OttersMayHaveShifted · 31/01/2026 16:16

I don't like mine. I live in a split-level house with two lots of stairs. The battery doesn't last long enough for 2 levels even, and it doesn't pick up that well tbh. It has a mop function which I used once because it was rubbish.

Derpytiger · 31/01/2026 16:18

I love mine so much. We put googly eyes on him which brings me no end of joy watching him go around the house

ShowmetheMapletree · 31/01/2026 16:18

Do they not get stuck/caught under furniture etc? I assumed they are more suited to a very open plan apartment, than a multi room house? Our is open plan in bits, but mixture of tiles and rugs. I always thought it wouldn't do a thorough job, and need emptied too often?

BrightLightTonight · 31/01/2026 16:18

When I had a garden, not only did I have a robot hoover, I also had a robot lawn mower. So on a work morning, I could walk the dogs safe in the knowledge that my house was being hoovered and the grass was being cut.

Clefable · 31/01/2026 16:19

Our robot lawn mower is the best, it’s one of the best things we’ve bought. He’s about to go into his fourth cutting season!

GiantTeddyIsTired · 31/01/2026 16:23

I hadn't replaced mine when it died recently (it was nearly 10 years old!) but I did about a month ago with a mopping one and it's fantastic (although not as good at the edges as the old one, but I'll take that exchange for the mopping and being able to control it remotely from my phone.

In fact, I'm planning to get another one for upstairs - which will leave me with only the stairs to do myself.

If only they could work out a mini one that I could have on the kitchen side so I never had to wipe the counters that would me a fair whack of basic housework covered!
