To regret not getting a robot vacuum sooner

Oh my days. What a game changer! Bought it on Wednesday and the joy of seeing him pootling about, vacuuming and mopping my floors while I get in with other things! I have three kids and I think I’ve vacuumed twice a day for the last 16 years. Hours of my life back. And it does a great job too. Am I alone in my new obsession?

What are the downsides,

We had a Eufy which was good on wooden floors (though would often get itself stuck) but I wouldn't have it near any carpeted areas. If there is a slight end of a carpet thread, it will find it and pull it, and keeping pulling it...

I came upstairs to find it had gone side to side repeatedly down one side of the bedroom with a thread of carpet and there was an inch wide gap between the carpet and the wall!

It's now in the garage and I use the Dyson!

TeenYearsAreBrutal · 31/01/2026 18:49

@JudesBiggestFan you are only being unreasonable if you haven’t given him a human name.

Sorry but that's massive overkill. Unless you're liberally pouring crumbs on the floor and all through the house at every meal, once every few days is more than adequate, even with dogs or cats.

I hoover every day, sometimes twice a day!
Theres just 2 adults who live here and we both work most days.
Somedays I’ll hoover when I get up and then when we get home from work, I’ve got a 3 bedroom house and it only takes a matter of minutes to do the whole house

We have a roborock qrevo and the downsides are that it's stupid and tries to kill itself 😂

It will get caught up on cables, even though we have its detection settings on sensitive.

The mop isn't that great honestly, not very impressive but it's ok.

The worst thing is that it's slow! Admittedly our house is pretty large but it takes forever!

(I'd be careful of the new Eufys though guys. They have ozone cleaners. Could be fine but it might not be and I'd rather not chance it)

What an ozone cleaner?

It would be best to have the dock and robot in one place to do one area, and move the dock to do the other area to do that area. If you get one which scans the area, you will then just have two maps for each area. The step shouldn’t be a problem as my robot (and I assume others) know where the here’s a step so won’t fall down. Don’t think helping the robot up the step would work. As others said, it defeats the object. I guess my suggestion of moving it does too, but it’s that or get two robots. It’s then a case of where to put it/them. Against a wall near a plug with a bit of space around preferably on a hard floor. It narrows the options down.

I wouldn’t be without mine though. Game changer. Wish I’d got one years ago!

Does it really negate the object though? If it’s that or continuing to hoover manually all the time?

ChocolateHobbit · 31/01/2026 19:23

Yep.

We've got 3 robots.

Moppy, who does our downstairs daily as it's mostly floor so he vacuums and mops (a Eufy).

Vaccy - a Eufy vacuum who sorts the upstairs outside daily as it's mostly carpet.

Snippy - robot lawnmower!

Goals!!

Im so tempted to get a dual mop/ vacuum one for downstairs so the vacuum one can live upstairs, which model do you have?

DH loves mowing the lawn but if he annoys me...

Omni X10 pro, or a slightly older version of it. We splashed out quite a bit for it, but my god it's been worth it.

We have schedules set up so each day it does something slightly different. For example a couple of times a week we get him to do 'edge hugging' mopping. Other days he just does the main traffic areas. I set this up ages ago so he automatically runs the schedules each day

He actually goes twice a day thinking about it, but just hoovers up first thing on a morning.

MrsKateColumbo · 31/01/2026 19:39

I have to say the novelty wore off a bit over time, but probably partially because my house is quite untidy so I have to clean before I turn him on lol

MerelyPlaying · 31/01/2026 19:45

I bought a basic Eufy in the Black Friday sales, bit of an impulse but oh what a gamechanger! My only regret is not buying a higher spec.

So glad to hear that others have named theirs and attached googly eyes. Robert isn’t perfect, he will miss areas (the cheaper ones don’t map the area, they use sensors) but he cleans every day, something I’m never going to do. The amount of dust and fluff picked up every day is astonishing.

Yes, you need to lift phone chargers or cables out of the way. No, he doesn’t vacuum under the sofa cushions or lift the rugs - but he does go right under the sofa. I don’t have to do anything except click the little dust container out and empty it. I still use my Shark once a week for a ‘proper’ clean,

Because I have cats (one long-haired) I don’t programme him to clean automatically, I like to check for feline bodily emissions and dead mice first. My cats don’t ride him, disappointingly, but they are much less scared of him than of the big vacuum. If I can afford it I’ll upgrade next year to one with the ability to map the route rather than just avoid obstacles.

But why ?

If you have vacuumed before you leave for work, wtf would you then vacuum when you return from work ? Confused
You've not even been there.

Sbmpp · 31/01/2026 20:09

@JudesBiggestFan LOLOL 😝. Mine just vacs and we don’t really use it much. When it gets stuck under the sofa or bed it keeps talking until the battery runs out. Our dishwasher also plays music to us and I just love it. Maybe we’d use it more if it mopped?

Sofachick6 · 31/01/2026 20:15

Do people use these as their only vacuum? I’ve found them to be awful on carpets, there is just not enough power for a good clean?

AgathaX · 31/01/2026 20:23

We have an eufy that vacs and mops. He's ok but doesn't collect much dust so the dirt ends up getting pushed around by the mopping action. Previous ones we've had have collected plenty of dust, so I think this must be a fault with this model.

I don't think they'd be good as an only vacuum. I run the proper vacuum around once a week to get into the corners properly.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 31/01/2026 20:30

Ours is in the bedroom.
I wafts about , gets stuck, leaves DH sock fluff on the carpet (black fluff) and fluff from my slipper socks ( red fluff) , declares it is finished and trots back to the charger .

And it vacuumed up a pile of cat vomit under the bed ( luckily dry biscuit) which I had to brush up as I didn't want my other vacuum getting clogged up with it , and clean the bloody robot vac.

I vacuum on a Friday , this thing shoofties round with bugger all to pick up and still makes a rubbish job of it

Shark Stratos is far far superior .

ObelixtheGaul · 31/01/2026 14:57

I haven't got one, but must confess I thought about getting one purely to see if our cat would ride on it like they do on YouTube...

Hilarious

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 31/01/2026 20:37

Our FemaleCat glares at it but it doesn't phase her . MaleCat screams if a moth farts .

I'm so so tempted to get one. I have a pretty small space and feel like it will spend more time getting stuck around chair legs etc that actually cleaning!

Edited

Do it. You lift everything liftable, leave it for 20 minutes, then move everything a bit and leave it for another half hour or so, so that it has had time to get behind everything.

ChocolateCinderToffee · 31/01/2026 20:43

I love mine, I'm on my third and wouldn't be without one. The current is a Eufy and it's the best I've had, also the cheapest. Away with the bloody drudgery of lugging the Miele about. That's down to once a month, max, because I have stairs. I tell all my friends to get one, it's just bliss not to have to do vacuuming.

PS: I've got a cat but he doesn't ride on it, he just ignores it unless it bumps into him, when he'll move.

Beachtastic · 31/01/2026 21:03

NaeBither · 31/01/2026 15:47

I got one recently, which I love, and was hoping the cats would hop on like the YouTube cats. But they have not attempted to climb on it even when it is docked. I am very disappointed in them

Honestly, I would sellotape them to it until they get the idea 😄💗

JMSA · 31/01/2026 21:09

I don’t get it! I thought it would be the answer to my prayers, but in the end it’s easier just to whip out the Miele. I sold my Eufy robot vacuum within days. The love is lost on me!

CotswoldsCamilla · 31/01/2026 21:31

We have fallen out of love with Svetlana, our old Eufy. Not sure I can be bothered getting another one because our ground floor has steps. We had her for 5 years and it’s probably night time she retired.

isthesolution · 31/01/2026 21:33

I’ve been looking in and off for ages but you’ve tempted me ….. I’ve just ordered one!

Costacoffeeplease · 31/01/2026 21:45

Love mine. I have three that do different areas. We have a lot of animals and it always picks up more than you think

Next time I’ll get one with a bin that empties itself
