I used to live near a nudist beach; they don't ban you from going there in clothes.

As far as I can see most naturist settings say 'clothing optional' and they do not force people to undress more than they wish to. This bike ride is the same actually.

I once accidentally booked into a campsite that was naturist - half the people there (including me) kept their clothes on, and the mostly-naked ones put on warm clothes in the evening or clothes to keep the sun off if they felt like it.

I got an event suggest on Bluesky the other day. It was for a naturist club's fancy dress bowling night. I just can't get my head around fancy dress for naturists. How does that work? Paint?

@LadyTangerine there are no ‘strict clothes off rules’ at naturist clubs.

There are many that dress if it’s chilly, or if they are more comfortable with clothes.

Often one side of a couple will be nude, the other clothed if they prefer……

The only place nudity is enforced is in the pool for hygiene reasons……. Obviously you’re not required to use the swimming pool if you prefer not.

I spent the afternoon with a couple once at an event. Driving home, there was something I couldn’t put my finger on, then I twigged she had been wearing a dress the whole day and an unconscious part of my brain was aware it was a bit different than everyone else, but I hadn’t seen at the time - we were just chatting.
No one noticed/cared/commented.

I am struggling to understand the issue with it honestly. I have no intention to take part or go watch and have never happened upon it. Should I have accidentally come across a naked person on the ride, I expect I would just have diverted my children along another road and thought nothing more of it.

Im going to honest I feel like that is one of those events that one might not know where to look!

I do not want it banned though it has lost its original purpose. The nudity was about vulnerability of cyclists and indeed pedestrians in our car dominated culture. Where people have SUVs and cannot manage to drive them properly, many car drivers of all ages are medically unfit to drive, and a further number should be banned for conduct on the road.

The one occasion I saw part of one naked bike ride, a large number of men with cameras were gathered on a small hill en route, and I bet they wanted to photograph any women taking part.

But why don't more of us do it....on the few hot days we get.

Because it's not the done thing. That's why this bike ride is needed in order to normalise it.

It will take a lot more than that but slowly, slowly does it until it is perfectly normal.

It’s confusing for a child. One minute you see loads of people cycling naked in public, next being told you can’t walk around naked in public.
